Why is anyone still picking the Yankees? So what if they've got a $200 million payroll, all that means is they have a great deal of bloated contracts that they gave to players who aren't earning them. Yes, they're on a 6 game win streak, and yes they're 4 games over .500, but 4 games over isn't what you'd expect from a $200 million team, and who have they beaten in those 6 games, and where did they beat them? It's not like they're sweeping the Cardinals and White Sox, they swept the Flubs and the Pirates at home. This recent win streak shows that they can beat bad teams, or even marginal teams, but when they come up against the good teams, they're obviously faltering, as evidenced by their record. Personally, I think Baltimore will win it. While I'm not sold on their starters, I think they have a good bullpen, and their lineup is one of the best in baseball. They have the best shot at the East IMO.

Right now, the best division from top to bottom is the NL East. The most topheavy division is the AL Central, having 3 teams well over .500, including the best team in baseball. Depending on how you define "best division", it's going to be either the NL East or AL Central.

White Sox vs Buddy Bell's Royals 06/20/05
Dam8610 replied to sox-r-us's topic in 2005 Season in Review
QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 20, 2005 -> 01:36 AM) We get all the breaks. I think you're right. Not only is Mike Sweeney not going to be active for the series, but the game BMac starts, Jose Lima and his 7+ ERA will be going for the Royals. Hopefully, I won't have to put a bad update on my AAP thread tommorrow. -
How are you guys letting Aramis get 2.5% of trhe 3B vote?
-
Cleveland is just on a hot streak. When their bats quiet down again, so will they.

Jeff Weaver is the Dodgers' ace?
-
They had the chance to bring him back. Therefore, let me modify my comparison. It'd be like the Braves sending Jones to the Royals because they have Marte, who then release him a year later, and then letting him go to the Phillies. Still dumb to let a big rival have such a good player. Why aren't you guys letting me rip on the Twins? It'd be like me defending the Patriots. Those teams can both kiss my ass!

I've never heard of the "AL WestNL East".

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 18, 2005 -> 11:37 PM) They weren't stupid in letting AJ go. They had Joe Mauer who in my book looks like he will become a damn good player. It was time for AJ to go, Mauer was ready. The Giants are the dumbasses for picking Tomko over AJ. I know they had Mauer, and I know his potential is far greater than A.J.'s, but how do you let a damn good player (even though you have what most feel is a better replacement) like A.J. go to your main division rival, even if he went somewhere else when you first released him? That's like saying the Braves would let Chipper Jones walk to the Phillies because they have Andy Marte.

I say about 200 of us go up there and "show them how we really feel".

Oops, I read it wrong, thought it said all time. Let's try this again: Lineup: 1) CF Ichiro 2) LF Scott Podsednik 3) RF Vladimir Guerrero 4) SS Alex Rodriguez 5) 1B Albert Pujols 6) DH Manny Ramirez 7) 2B Alfonso Soriano 8) C Ivan Rodriguez 9) 3B Scott Rolen Bench: 1) C A.J. QUOTE(AirScott @ Jun 18, 2005 -> 12:22 PM) anyway only 8 teams out of 30 makes the playoffs, or 26%. in the NFL it's 12 out of 32, 50%. NBA it's 16 of 30, 53%, same as NHL. so baseball's regular season is the most meaningful of the 4, so no changes are necessary. 12/32 is not 50%, it's 37.5%, and because the NFL has such a short season, it has the most meaningful season, because ground lost isn't as easily made up as it can be in MLB. One win or loss can make or brake the whole season in the NFL. The same can't be said in MLB, except in very rare cases (close division race at the end of the season, 1 game playoff).

I hope it's not the game of the season. To this point, it is, but I hope there's an even more exciting game awaiting us at the end of October.

Do you have any superstitions? (If yes to above question) What is your biggest superstition? What is your routine before a game?

The Yankees probably don't even have the prospects to get him. Who are they going to give the Mets (who probably wouldn't want to trade to them anyway) for Cameron? Bernie Williams?
-
Wow, I have to say I'm doubly grateful to the Twins for sucking so much today. First, they're current team SUCKS all the way to a 7-2 loss, then the catcher that they were stupid enough to let go (SUCKY personnel department) hits the GW HR for us! So, for those of you keeping score at home, the Twinkies STILL SUCK!
-
Lineup: 1) LF Ricky Henderson 2) 2B Pete Rose 3) 1B George Ruth 4) CF Willie Mays 5) 3B Mike Schmidt 6) SS Alex Rodriguez 7) DH Frank Thomas 8) C Yogi Berra 9) RF Ichiro Suzuki Rotation: 1) Walter Johnson 2) Pete Alexander 3) Tom Seaver 4) Sandy Koufax 5) Bob Gibson Bullpen: 1) Warren Spahn 2) Roger Clemens 3) Steve Carlton 4) Pete Alexander 5) Nolan Ryan 6) Rollie Fingers (setup man) 7) Dennis Eckersley (closer)

Thanks for A.J. Twinkies and Giants! We can see what you mean when you said he's a clubhouse cancer. A.J.

Well then it's 170-152. My bad, it's fixed.

QUOTE(jerseysox @ Jun 17, 2005 -> 12:13 PM) i think the al east is the best from top to bottom. before yesterday, the yankees were in fourth place. that's a pretty deep division. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Jun 17, 2005 -> 06:17 PM) Sorry but I'll have to agree to that too. I still believe that Yankee's team will make the playoffs. Somehow, someway they're gonna get in. Why is everyone STILL so quick to give the Yankees, a team that has been floating around .500 at it's best points this year, and is currently only 2 games over .500, so much respect and benefit of the doubt? They haven't shown themselves to be worthy of the $200 million Steinbrenner has spent on them, and they haven't "flipped the switch", like they did last year after a bad April. Anyway... For those of you who are defining the best division in baseball as the one with the best combined record, here's how you would rank them, as of today: 1) NL East 178-155, 23 games over.500 2) AL Central 170-152, 18 games over .500 3) AL East 167-165, 2 games over .500 4) AL West 130-132, 2 games under .500 5) NL Central 188-206, 18 games under .500 6) NL West 154-177, 23 games under .500

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 18, 2005 -> 01:39 AM) Maybe you should take your stats again with Johan Santana. One good season? he's had 2 really good seasons where he had only 14 and 18 starts in each. Then he had his ridiculous Cy Young campaign last year, where he pitched better than Buerhle ever has. Then this year, even though he's gotten off to a bad start he still has sick numbers. A 3.32 ERA, .90 WHIP with 121 Ks in 100.3 IP. In those two years you're talking about, he had 13 and 27 appearances from the bullpen, respectively. I'll admit he has good stats in those years, but don't you think for a guy who's used to starting, it's going to be easier to put up good numbers coming out of the pen? I'll also admit he's building a damn good case, but as of now, I wouldn't want to trade Buehrle for him. It doesn't help him that he plays for the Twins and knowing that if Buehrle were traded for him, we'd have to watch Buehrle pitch for the Twins (an image that would be quite disturbing to me, and I would think to most Sox fans as well).

Who wil win the NBA CHampionship?
Dam8610 replied to ChiSoxfan123's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Better question: Who cares about the NBA Finals this year?
