QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 24, 2005 -> 12:54 AM) I'm really worried about this one... Freddy's stats at the Cell: 6 starts 1-2 record 5.12 ERA 38.2 IP 44 H 22 ER 6 HR 18 BB 24 SO Yeah, but he's been improving. Hopefully, the improvement will continue.

Fact: No team that has had a 10 game lead at any point in the month of June has ever failed to make the playoffs. Fact: On June 22nd, 2005, the White Sox owned a 10 game lead over the Twins.

Which AL Pitcher Should Start The All-Star Game?
Dam8610 replied to AddisonStSox's topic in The Diamond Club
Johan Santana -
They may be able to keep Oswalt, but would it be worth it, especially considering they're not going to compete any time soon? Wouldn't it be a better idea to trade him to a contender for as much talent as you can get? I think if they can get some of our top prospects, they would go for it.

QUOTE(Frank the Tank 35 @ Jun 23, 2005 -> 02:10 AM) They have two other top veteran pitchers making more salary that I'm sure they'd prefer to dump and would get PLENTY of value for. Clemens has a no-trade clause and makes too much money to go anywhere but the Yankees, who don't have the prospects they'd want. Pettite is also someone I'd like, however there is no way he brings as much value as Oswalt would.

QUOTE(Frank the Tank 35 @ Jun 23, 2005 -> 02:08 AM) I mean while we're on the topic of acquiring fantastic young talented pitchers who play for mediocre teams, why don't we also add Ben Sheets, Ollie Perez, Rich Harden, Roy Halladay, and oh the Marlins are only playing .500 ball, maybe any one of their pitchers as well. I don't mean to sound like I'm going off, but Oswalt is clearly a pipe dream. If somehow we did get him, I'd gladly eat my words for a month. If I'm not mistaken, Sheets is locked up long-term, as is Roy Halladay, and Harden and Perez are still in arbitration. Oswalt is on a 2 year deal, and the Astros are going into a rebuilding mode, so I think it makes sense to cash in on their 27 year old stud while they have the chance. They don't want another Beltran situation.

QUOTE(Frank the Tank 35 @ Jun 23, 2005 -> 01:56 AM) I voted for Oswalt, but it ain't happening. He's probably the best thing the 'stros have going for them, one of the best pitchers in baseball, tied up in a VERY affordable contract for his talent, and is only 27 years old. If there's anybody at all on that team who's not going to get moved besides Berkman, it's definitely Oswalt. If you were the Astros, would you trade him for any suspect in anybody's minor league system? I sure wouldn't... Considering that he will bring a ton of value in a trade, they're in rebuild mode, and the possibility that he could walk in 2007, why wouldn't they trade him?

QUOTE(Benchwarmerjim @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 05:11 PM) If you read the post, it was not Bat Girl making those statement, but a guest blogger because BG is gone until June 23(as it says on the top of the page) But, as a Twins from, I am concerned, but not worried. Its not the alls tar break yet. But if the lead DOES get 10-11 game before then, well, then Ill start to worry Worried now?

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 23, 2005 -> 12:57 AM) Give Houston anything you have to, just get Roy Oswalt in the Starting Rotation tomorrow. What he said.

If the Sox are going to get a SP, why not make it the best one available? I'm not talking about Clemens or Schmidt, but rather Roy Oswalt. I know there hasn't been anything said about him being on the block yet, however, I'm sure if a team makes them a good offer, he could be had. I'm sure if the Sox packaged some good prospects together, he could be had.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 09:36 PM) YAWN, another win, nothing to complain about, the Man on the mound tomorrow, Twins losing, Cleveland lost. This is so boring. It'll be boring when the papers read: Y-White Sox Twins Indians Tigers Royals Y-clinched division

McCarthy out of rotation; to bullpen as swingman
Dam8610 replied to Jabroni's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think he can be as dominant as he was in spring training as a starter if he gets some confidence in his change. If you throw fastball after fastball in the bigs, you're going to get hit whether you're starting or coming out of the pen. -
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 06:04 PM) Its only two extra days, it doesn't make that big of a difference in the grand scheme of things. If its me, I make Brandon sit on the bench in between Mark Buehrle and AJ Pierz, and talk about nothing but the mental aspect of pitching. Or maybe about how Buehrle throws any pitch in any count, including his offspeed stuff.

McCarthy out of rotation; to bullpen as swingman
Dam8610 replied to Jabroni's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Well, maybe he'll be able to find his change in the pen. He has to be able to throw his offspeed pitches more often if he's going to succeed. -
QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 06:23 PM) No kidding. That's why the Astros will never trade Oswalt. They'd trade a 42yr old Clemens though. If the Astros were willing to trade Oswalt, I'd give them McCarthy, Anderson and another prospect. Personally, I would hope that we'd be able to keep one of the two you named, but that's probably the type of deal that it'd have to be. I'd do it too, because Oswalt is a great pitcher and would give us an excellent rotation.

QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 05:07 PM) I thought this was funny listening on the radio yesterday- John Rooney kept mentioning how good of a team the Cardinals were and how lucky of a team the Sox were. All tongue in cheek, of course. Why would he take a shot at the Cardinals? That doesn't make sense.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 04:55 PM) I thougth I saw him try to throw it a couple of times and miss the strike zone badly. The one time I saw him throw it, he missed the zone, but the batter swung.

QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 04:43 PM) I think San Fran will be asking top dollar for Schmidt based on past performance, and if the Sox are going to pay top dollar for a starter, I'd prefer it to be Roy Oswalt. QUOTE(sayitaintso @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 04:44 PM) The Astros would ask for top dollar for Oswalt too. I believe I said that. Oswalt is an awesome pitcher and he isn't tanking this season. That's why I'd prefer the Sox to pay top dollar for him rather than Schmidt.

The McCarthy we saw yesterday is not ready for the show or big league hitters. The McCarthy we saw in spring training is definitely ready for both of those things. The difference between these two McCarthys? A good changeup that he throws often and can locate and the location of his fastball. McCarthy is afraid to throw his change for some reason, as he only threw it once last night. It was effective the time he did throw it, so I don't know why he wouldn't continue throwing it. Also, he's throwing his fastball too high a lot of the time, and it's not the same pitch as the one that is low in the zone. His curveball is the only pitch that appears the same as the one that he threw in the spring, and it was effective when he threw it, but he didn't throw it very much either. I'm not sure if he's scared to throw anything but the fastball or what, but I think the coaching staff should find a way to force him to throw his offspeed pitches more often, because I think it would lead to better success than he's had thus far.
