  1. 6 inning starts from the fifth starter do a lot to keep the bullpen fresh. That's more than most teams get from a fifth starter. It takes the pressure off the rest of the rotation to be perfect every time out.
  2. QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 09:24 AM) "Special" went out if style with the Ripken era, IMO. The signing of ARod changed loyalty of players to teams and cities. It's all about the $$. I agree. It was better when the players played for free.
  3. Wouldn't a massive monetary investment in the country to our south actually help to keep people in that country? Mexicans are coming to this country illegally because there is little opportunity for them in Mexico. If the US helped build up their economy and stabilize their government (with even a small percentage of the $ spent in Iraq), there would be much less need for Mexicans to come to the US for work. (See Canada).
  4. QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 11:38 AM) How on earth could you guys touch those females? We're doing our part to help them pay for college. A message we all should have taken from the Live8 concerts.
  5. QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 08:05 AM) He's not into the stripper thing so likely he isn't doing anything like that. I told my wife that, too. Then I won the bj raffle.
  6. I swear, no matter what I invest in, it goes in the tank. I hope they round up all of these dickheads and set Cumswalla loose on them. Bank One, here I come.

Da Coach is also pro-drink driving and doesn't mind a little gum throwing (if that's what turns you on).
  8. QUOTE(Southside hitmen @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 10:52 AM) Mostly all the Sox fans wanted him out of town as well True. He was booed mercilessly.
  9. I say it every time I see steroid speculation on this board. The players themselves suspected. I remember hearing that Maddux, Glavine, and Smoltz would sit on the bench and guess who was taking steroids. Players had every opportunity to get steroids out of the game, but they didn't do it. Therefore, fans have every right to speculate and call into question any numbers that have been put up in the last 20 years.
  10. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 12, 2005 -> 12:20 PM) There's a lot more guys you can add to that, including a few from our own team. Don't be shy.
  11. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 12, 2005 -> 08:59 AM) Sosa was a scrawny guy when with the White Sox and Rangers. Sosa was hardly what I would call scrawny. He was ripped. I'm not saying he didn't take steroids. He clearly did.
  12. I was reading the Jennie Finch Sport's IIlustrated last night and it had an article called, "Tom Verducci's All-Bust Team." 1b KMillar "SLG shrunk from .474 to .385 and he's no longer hooking balls over or off the Green Monster." 4HR/12doubles 2b Bret Boone "Liker Millar, has lost pop in his bat." 6HR 3b MLowell "Lowell's slump is mystifyingly long and deep....A legit 25HR guy, he has jit only 3 and driven in 29." Add Sammy, Thome, etc. Anyone have any theories?
  13. QUOTE(UofIChiSox @ Jul 12, 2005 -> 08:07 AM) Analysts like Gammons and BBTN crew are paid to voice their opinions on national TV. Sometimes those opinions change over time, so of course they are going to flip flop and sometimes or even often be wrong. Agreed. Nothing, to me, is worse than when someone like Mariotti keeps looking for negatives in a story like the Sox this year. Who knows, in the long run, maybe this will be a terrible trade for the Sox. I like the direction they are going (in terms of D, speed, and pitching), though.
  14. Simmons is yet another ESPN guy who roots for either BoSox or NYY. His opinion on this matter means nothing to me. That aside, I look forward to reading his article in ESPN mag every week. Usually some funny stuff. My favorite was the time he talked about dorm sports that guys make up. Worst thing in ESPN mag? Gotta be either Stu Scott's 2way (pointless) or DPatrick's smugfest.
  15. QUOTE(Yossarian @ Jul 11, 2005 -> 05:22 PM) I believe his name is Tito Landrum. And may he rot in Wrigleyville!
  16. There's something so crazy about a songwriter not owning the songs that he wrote. Even crazier is that McCartney gave MJ the advice that owning song publishing is a great investment.
  17. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 11, 2005 -> 11:55 AM) If he follows the team then he should know. A casual fan probably wouldn't know the answers though, in your defense. For example, if someone gave me a quiz like that about the Hawks, I'd probably only get 3/4 right. In his defense, my dad doesn't remember my name most of the time. My main point is bandwagoner or die-hard. Who cares? Let's fill up the park and root loud for the Sox. I'm sure that makes it much easier for the players to get amped up for a game. Just look at the Expos/Nationals. Playing in front of a full house can make a world of difference.
  18. DJ's homerun call. Uh oh...bye bye.
  19. QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jul 11, 2005 -> 11:31 AM) anyone who can stand chris berman for that amount of time deserves a medal. i won't be watching. Aren't you afraid you'll miss some original material.
  20. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 01:50 PM) ^^^ Quick Bandwagon Fan Quiz 1.) Name atleast 20 men on the current 25 man roster. 2.) What was the White Sox starting rotation in order the first week of the season> 3.) Who is the current closer of the Sox? 4.) Who is the Starting 2nd baseman of the White Sox? 5.) Who is the V.P. of Marketing for the Chicago White Sox? 6.) Who is the current Utility man on the White Sox? 7.) Who is Kevin Walker and does he suck? 8.) Is Timo Perez underpaid at $1mil? #5 will show how closely you follow the team for sure. My dad's been a Sox fan for 50 years, and I guarantee that he couldn't get more than four of those. Definitely not number 5. I guess that makes him a bandwagon fan.
  21. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 11, 2005 -> 10:55 AM) No Middle Buffalo....not a bad idea. A HORRIBLE IDEA. IT SUCKS! Anyways, yes, I am rooting for the Canadian because.........uuum, Serbians live in Canada! OK. You make a compelling argument. Go Canada.
  22. They're putting the different countries on display this year because the baseball world cup is happening next March. It's just some early publicity for that event. Not a bad idea.
  23. QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 04:11 PM) 1.) a lot: it's two words 2.) your = possessive; you're = you are; its = possessive; it's = it is; there = location; their = possessive; they're = they are Mind if I piggy back? 3.) It's "try to," not "try and." Eg. He is going to try to call me. 4.) "First annual." It's just not possible to have a "first annual" anything. Annual means it happens every year. If it's the first, well....
  24. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jul 10, 2005 -> 08:56 PM) I'm not from Chicago. And I'm sure if you're not, you check Chisox.com on a regular basis, or some of the Chicago papers online, at least I do. I see mentionings of him all the time in these places. Not looking to fight. I moved from Chicago 3 years ago, and I used to use all those sites until I found Soxtalk. There's enough info here (and on WGN) to give me my Sox fix.
  25. Haven't seen the flick. Hopefully, Kaz Tadano of the Indians doesn't make an appearance.
