  1. Does anyone know if other countries have come forward offering millions in aid and help like the US did after the tsunami?
  2. Wong, What about all that extra stuff they try to sell? Undercoat rustproofing, window etching, etc. Should you just say no to all of that stuff and get it on your own? That's what I did. I didn't want to finance all of that over the life of my loan.
  3. I haven't bought a new car for 5 years, but I know that there's plenty of info on the internet. When I did it, I called all the dealers in my area and asked what it would cost for the car I was interested in. As I called each subsequent dealer, I told them what each place told me was their bottom price. It saved a ton of time to do this by phone first. Then I went to the dealer with the best price and haggled some more. They absolute key is being prepared to get up and walk out if you are not comfortable. Remember, they want to make the deal TODAY, so they don't want to let you walk. If you stand up and say "Is that the best you can do? Well, I'll have to think about it." Chances are, they'll try to do better.
  4. QUOTE(Steff @ Sep 2, 2005 -> 09:32 AM) Apparently they knew anything stronger than a 3 would do serious damage. I'm sorry.. I don't have any more answers than anyone else, just tossing stuff out there. I can't imagine they sat around and said "hey.. we know they aint gonna hold, but oh well..." The bottom line is that NO and the levies were not a priority for the boys in Washington. It's useless to point fingers at this point.. but if they need to be pointed, they should be pointed in the right direction. There was a special on ABC (i think - Elizabeth Vargas?) and they had a soldier from the Army who helped design the levees. He said that when they built the levees to withstand a level 3 hurricane, they did cost analysis and figured that that would be enough. A levee system able to withstand level 5 hurricanes was possible, but not deemed to be cost efficient. I'm pretty sure the analysis was wrong.
  5. Golden Brown Middle Silk. Kinda catchy.
  6. In the most recent ESPN magazine, Tim Kurkjian says that an AL scout said that teams didn't want to make moves because they don't know how legitimate players numbers are. Are they trading for guys who put up numbers because they were on steroids? Will they get injured because they're not on them anymore? I would have liked to see the sox make a move, but when you consider the price they would have had to pay in the long run, it's probably better off that they go into the playoffs with the team that put up the best record in baseball for the majority of the season. And, let's hope like crazy that they draw Detroit or KC in the first round.
  7. Some people see the black in the clouds, some see the silver lining. I choose to see the "silver and black!"
  8. QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 05:58 AM) Still, as a Mariotti fan.... I seriously can't believe that I just read those words. I think it's clear that Texsox is Jay Mariotti.
  9. Psssst.....Mods are carefully monitoring this thread for personal attacks. Use pig latin. Oh, and the Sox are still 7 games up with 30 to play. I like their chances.
  10. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 11:26 AM) No, that's someone's opinion about a newsworthy event. Sexual innuendo about Timo and Ozzie isn't, and crosses the line. Look, it's common sense. Most of you know what's right and not right, so use a little common sense and there will be no problems. Ok, that makes sense.
  11. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 11:02 AM) Personally, I think it should apply to all players, but that's me. Good question, though. We'll discuss it. But please remember that the "intent" is to keep things from being degrading or vulgar, not necessarily, "Torii Hunter sucks". So, IMO, the vulgarity should cover everyone. Piggybacking here (need a smiley for that). Does this policy apply to topics outside of baseball. For instance, a few weeks back, there was a Natalie Holloway thread where one poster repeatedly said that she was a slut and got what she deserved, etc. Is this crossing the line? I thought it was idiotic, but I didn't attack the poster personally, I just said I disagreed with his ideas. Oh, and I mentioned that I hoped that he never had kids. ( I think it's going to be very hard to be fair and consistent with the new policy. I don't believe I've ever crossed the line and attacked another poster, and I agree that it should not be tolerated, but I kind of think players and others in the media are fair game. Do I like to see posters here attacking players? No. However, if I see that, I just ignore it. I don't see why that would be censored.
  12. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 05:42 AM) Bellhorn has been pretty awful this season. My problem has nothing to do with the player they picked up, just the fact that seemingly every player released by another franchise gets a two week tryout with the Yankees. They seem to be the only team that can afford to take chances like that.
  13. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 08:56 PM) Probably. Kinda a pain too, cause we don't want to take away anyone that actually logs in and reads often. Then soxtalk's numbers are as legit as McGuire, Sosa, et al.
  14. QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 01:54 PM) Thank you for not registering and adding another point in the data bank. Any way to remove some of those names that registered in 2003 and never posted/signed up multiple times?
  15. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 03:31 PM) In terms of our policy, we will be suspending posters for 7-10 days upon first offense. Can we appeal our suspensions to the highest authority in baseball - Bud Selig?
  16. It will be disgusting if they make the playoffs. I'm so sick of them and the way they do business. I know they play by the rules, but no team should be allowed to take a flyer on every veteran player that becomes available. Baseball is just crying out for some form of salary cap. The current system is a joke.
  17. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 12:20 PM) No time with all of the I mean, could it be posted/updated on the top of the game thread page or on the home page?
  18. Is it possible to find a way to have the score posted on game threads? I always come into them, but leave because I have absolutely no idea what the score is. Not looking to create more work for anyone, but if it's not too hard to do, it would be a nice feature.
  19. Pizza, hot dogs, beef. Who cares? I'd commit Harry Caray for a White Castle's slider.
  20. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 10:44 AM) So you pretty much did a power hour with an extra 40 minutes? That's rough. And then we went out to a party. I miss college.
  21. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 10:42 AM) Wasn't Schilling also the one who destroyed a QUESTEC? Yeah, he did. Probably because nobody knows more than Curt about anything. Especially a machine.
  22. I once tried to do 100 shots of beer in 100 minutes. Same result as the gallon of milk. I think I got to 60-65, but to tell the truth, I was feeling kind of bad in the teens. It's not really all that much beer, it's the carbonation that catches up with you. And 60 seconds goes unbelievably quick when you don't want it to. :puke
  23. I'm sitting here waiting 2 hours for a guy at work to make a pick in fantasy football. Plus, I've got a turtle sniffing cotton, but am too lazy to get up and do anything about it. Life's good.
  24. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 06:15 AM) I dont remember Schilling as being such a Gossip Queen and Mr. Controversy until he got to Boston. Did he have an hourlong spot on a radio show when he was in Philly or Arizona? Definitely had one in Phoenix. He was on once a week for 30 minutes or so. I can't stand Schilling, but have to admit it's kind of refreshing to hear a guy speak his mind. I just happen to disagree with his moral superiority on every issue. One of the highlights of that day when the players sat before Congress was when the one guy (don't remember his name) said he was just handed an article that appeared in SI that has Schilling quoted saying that steroids were rampant in baseball. Schilling did not deny the statements, but said that upon reflection, he was wrong about that. Sure, Curt. Methinks Palmeiro, Sammy, and McGuire weren't the only ones who lied on that day. Curt Schilling - The Conscience of Baseball I for one am glad that Ben Davis bunted for a single to break up this puds perfect game bid. FU and your unwritten rules, Schill.
