Rush hour traffic!?!
QUOTE(Middle Buffalo @ Sep 20, 2005 -> 10:47 PM) I'm not sure how all of this works, but why does it seem like when I'm in a game thread everyone else is instant messaging posts, but I have to keep hitting the view new posts button or going to the page before then back to seenew posts? Am I doing something wrong, or is that how the gamethread works for everyone? Sorry, I meant for that to be in green. Um, thanks. :banghead

So what did you do when Crede homered
I was on the MLB.com gamecast. It showed Crede at bat. Then it said "ball in play." Then nothing for about 10 minutes. I think it was stunned. Me too.

NCAA Overtime
I was watching the ND-MSU game Saturday, and I have to say that I hate the way NCAA overtime is handled. I am an ND fan (beat you to the punch), but that isn't the problem. I just think that giving each team the ball from the 30yd line and seeing if they can score is not a good way to handle OT. I like that each team gets a chance (the NFL should adopt that rule), but think a regular kickoff is a better way. Both teams should be guaranteed a possession in OT. If the game is still tied after one possession for each team, the game should be sudden death. What do you think?

QUOTE(qwerty @ Sep 20, 2005 -> 09:25 PM) The server is huge. The problem is when people search for things during games that sloooooooows us down so much, At least that is partially what jason has told me before. McCartney Concert Review
I can't believe he plays that many songs. You really got your money's worth. Nothing like turning the kids onto the music you like. If I had to hear Baa Baa Black Sheep or This Old Man again while I drove, I would have put a pencil in my ears.

Hawk's bringing back the patch tonight, and DJ's on the hunt for some booty.

Inevitable Mariotti article
All season, Sox fans (myself included) were upset by the lack of respect the Sox were given by the national media. The "experts" at ESPN would say that the Sox weren't as good as their record would indicate. Inevitably a thread would start here telling the "experts" to f-off. Maybe they were right all along. I still like the Sox team. I think they'll make the playoffs and because they have talented pitchers, they have a chance to win it all. However, their everyday lineup lacks an impact offensive threat. I'm not talking statistically (PK has HR numbers, Pods has SBs), but I'm saying there is nobody that an opposing team really has to be careful with. Unfortunately, they didn't make a move for a guy like Griffey when they had a chance at the deadline. For what KWilliams was being asked to give up to get Griffey, Burnett, et al, I'm glad he didn't make the move. I felt that way at the time, and I don't think it's fair to hold him responsible now that the Sox have begun to slide.

Inevitable Mariotti article
2 points: Nobody made any real significant moves at the trade deadline. Our payroll, and those of other Central teams, reflects attendance. If we supported the team better at the gate, they'd spend more money and the division would be ours to lose every year.

Help a fellow SoxTalker...
Here's alink to the 1999 Baseball HOF inductions. Unlike football, where the player picks who will introduce him to the crowd, it looks like baseball has the commisioner do the deed. Bud Selig presents the player's stats, and says very little about the person. Here's the link. Hope it helps. http://www.baseballhalloffame.org/hof_weekend/1999/speeches/

Which HBs should I start?
You have two guys who are good and the #1 option, you gotta go with them. LJ looks to get 10 carries every week unless Priest gets hurt. Keep him on the bench.

QUOTE(Mercy! @ Sep 15, 2005 -> 09:59 PM) I don't want to get into a fight, but when you allege for some reason that Frank Thomas's domestic life somehow is wanting in comparison to that of Jim Brown, I've just got to put in my two cents worth. Jim Brown was an amazing running back, and is undoubtedly a fascinating and complex personality. I believe he has done a lot of good works with various communities. But his, umm, family life left a little to be desired. That is good stuff. Sorry if we're hi-jacking this thread, but that's one of the charms of Soxtalk. I actually was the first person to post on this thread, then deleted it because I didn't feel it was necessary to bash Frank. Then I saw all the adjectives describing him as an all around great guy, and I kind of thought that wasn't painting a totally accurate picture of him either. I wasn't really trying to make a comparison of Brown/Frank domestically (though it certainly seems that way). I was making more of a comparison of their off the field contributions to society, and I definitely picked a bad example. I knew Brown had domestic troubles, and I was just offering him up as a person who was a social activist (not necessarily saying that he should be the subject of the speech). That's why I later added Brooks and Dunn (not that Brooks and Dunn ). I mean, you could say Roberto Clemente. Latin players to this day look up to him, and he died in 1972. He's the reason so many latin players wear #21. Truthfully, though, I don't know the off the field personal lives of those guys.
