Whenever I watch basketball, I can't get over the amot of traveling. Not just the Jordanesque extra half step on every drive. The shuffling of feet and changing the pivot foot is what gets me. That, and LeBron takin 2 steps between dribbles.

Kentucky Derby!
I've bet the triple crown races against my dad every year for 30+ years. It started as a $2/race bet, and it hasn't changed much. We usually each pick 2 horses for this race. If none win, we let it ride. I picked Dortmund and Upstart.

Highly recommend the documentary about Roger Ebert, "Life Itself." Came out last year, but I just saw it last weekend. It's a "warts and all" depiction of him. I was always a Sun-Times/Ebert guy. Pretty rough ending to his life. And I had no idea that Siskel was a stud.

MLB Franchise Four
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 18, 2015 -> 06:34 PM) Dude, there's no "bench" filled with several dozen other guys at Mt. Rushmore. You get 4. 4 names. The granite to the side is literally too fractured to add any additional heads. You only get 4. You do not get super-subs. Carl Everett can stand alone like Crazy Horse down the road.

2015 Cubs Catch-All thread
QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Apr 17, 2015 -> 08:55 PM) Is there any history of GMs coming out and saying something like "of course we're sending his ass down for 12 days. It gets us another year of control." What happens PR-wise in that case? I don't think what Theo did was wrong. I don't Theo needs to come out and say why he did it. The non-Cubs media should be more skeptical, and they haven't been. They have accepted that Theo doesn't bring rookies up for opening day for developmental reasons.

2015 Cubs Catch-All thread
QUOTE (Friend of Nordhagen @ Apr 17, 2015 -> 03:02 PM) "MLB needs trumped all." Uh-huh, Len. If Theo says it, it must be true. Because Theo also said Bryant was sent to AAA, in the first place, for "baseball reasons." Yet here he is, just 2 weeks later, batting cleanup for the big league team in his FIRST GAME. Boy, those AAA coaches sure must be great. Kasper's a complete Theo/Jed fanboy hack. Boring. I can't get mad at cubs fans for being excited. Bryant's a rare talent, but the pass Theo gets for sending him down is ridiculous. I don't disagree with Theo's decision at all, but the idea that Theo doesn't bring rookies north for opening day (or hasn't historically) for developmental reasons is a joke. He did it to buy an extra year of control. Again, I don't think Theo should be criticized for sending Bryant down, but let's not act like it was for developmental reasons.

Sports Media discussion
Listening to a podcast of Carmen & Jurko from Monday - they had Jesse Rodgers on to do a Cubs report. His segment and the rest of the hour was sponsored by the Cubs. Now, I know the radio show is entertainment > hard hitting news, but thats kind of ridiculous from a journalistic standpoint.

(Insert Celeb Here) is Dead
QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Apr 7, 2015 -> 09:13 AM) James Best. aka Roscoe P Coltrane from Dukes of Hazzard It's crazy that "The Dukes of Hazzard" debuted in 1979. I remember being super excited to watch it. I remember going to my best friend's house to watch it. I remember being in love with Catherine Bach. I was seven. Sometimes I think about just how much I remember from my childhood, and I think part of the reason is that having fewer options for entertainment created a more communal feel to things like TV, movies, and music because we were all consuming the same stuff. Anyway, RIP Rosco. Take a seat at the bar of the big Boar's Nest in the sky.

WGN Sports announces Iowa, Illinois, Indiana TV stations
This kills my ability to see games with any regularity. I could usually count on seeing the Sox a few times a month. Now I have to rely on ESPN and mlb network, and they're virtually nonexistent on both channels. Actually, this probably does more damage to the Cubs since they have a larger national following that depended on Wgn games. Bad timing for Cubs fans out of market.

Golfing Thread
QUOTE (SnB @ Mar 25, 2015 -> 09:36 AM) I'm starting to lean toward ditching my driver and hitting something smaller and more controllable off the tee. I only play with my irons. I tee off with my 3 iron. Now, I'm a pretty bad player (never had a lesson), but I feel like using irons exclusively helps me avoid the big errors I make with the woods. I can hit the ball really far, but it never goes straight with my driver. By the way, I had a hole in one Sunday. In typical fashion, I followed it with a 7.

These early retirements will probably help the owners to fight lawsuits in the future. They'll be able to argue that the info was available about concussions/injuries, so players played at their own risk. That would put the burden on the union to negotiate long term health care into future contracts. Of course, that means giving up money in now in return for care later.

$$$$ fine for Ol' Billy B $$$$ fine for Kraft Take 1st & 2nd round picks from them for next three years. Might seem harsh, but at this point they're repeat offenders and its institutional.
