  1. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jan 12, 2007 -> 08:34 PM) Or him arguing with the umpire in Buggs Bunny fashion. "I was trying to say the ball was fair, but I was saying it was foul, and he was saying the ball was fair instead of saying the ball was foul." They used to play that on the Score all the time. Classic. He actually confused himself.
  2. Look, when cigarrettes fell out of Greg Brady's jacket at the Brady's breakfast table, Mike and Carol correctly placed the blame on Greg. Oops, the jacket belonged to his friend. Barry Bonds - Barry Williams. Same guy. Sweeney is guilty.
  3. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Jan 9, 2007 -> 11:00 AM) Yeah, some of those old votes boggle my mind, I don't know how you can leave some of those guys off the ballot. What possible logic is there to not vote for guys like Mays and Aaron (other than a racist non-vote, which would be pretty pathetic). I didn't realize that it took DiMaggio 3 tries to get in, that's ridiculous. In the beginning, writers were playing catch-up. The first class was 1936, and voters are limited to 10 players on their ballots, so good players were passed up for years. Here's a year by year list of the results. The players on the first ballot are amazing. http://www.baseballhalloffame.org/history/...ing/default.htm
  4. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jan 9, 2007 -> 02:44 PM) Plus even if he did juice, they were not banned from the game of baseball (yes they were an illegal substance in the US, but they were not banned from baseball) so I can not possibly hold him out because of that. Steroids were banned from baseball in 1991. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/eticket/sto...sExc&num=19
  5. Good stuff. I kind of skimmed it, and there's some pretty funny stuff. I'll have to go back to that when I have more time.

QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Jan 3, 2007 -> 11:06 PM) Perhaps if you're in the mood for another western you could check out The Proposition. I haven't actually seen it yet but I've heard good things. Boring movie.

"Pursuit of Happyness" is really depressing. Something bad happens to Will Smith (who's really quite good) in every scene for 2 hours, but there is a 5 minute long happy ending. I couldn't wait for the movie to end.
  8. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Dec 29, 2006 -> 10:40 PM) I'm tempted to take this to the CTA as I have friends at the top of the Authority (specifically, fathers of a few friends) but I'm not going to. That said, I thought the driver was way out of line and I know that she'd lose her job for such a thing. It's almost impossible to get fired from a government job. She would have had to kill your mom to lose her job.
  9. 1. Growing up, my parents didn't let us drink soda (all of which were called Coke - whether they were Coke or not). We could only have "Coke" as a treat on the weekends. One glass each, poured from the bottle. During the week we drank milk or Kool Aid, which we called "red juice." 2. My cousin is arguably the most famous Irish-American violin player in the world, and another cousin danced in the original version of "Riverdance." I have no talent in either area. My sister, however, took dance lessons with Michael Flatley. She is marginally more talented at Irish dance than I. 3. In high school, my dad was diagnosed with high cholesterol. The doctor said he needed to cut down on red meat and include more fish in his diet. My mom bought a deep fryer to cook the fish in. No lie. 4. In third grade, I lost the part of Paul Bunyan in a school play to a girl. I later took that girl to senior prom. My wife was also at that prom (though I didn't know at the time). I met my wife a few months later on my first day at U of I. Still together 16 years later with three kids. 5. I once shot at the wrong basket in a high school basketball game. I came off the bench at the beginning of the fourth quarter, and I hadn't been paying attention. A teammate inbounded the ball to me as I broke toward the basket. I went in for the layup. And missed. No wonder I never played.
  10. QUOTE(soxwon @ Dec 28, 2006 -> 06:58 PM) 23 and it wont except some of my correct answers Maybe due to spelling/grammar errors?
  11. We had a tie as well in week 15. No tie-breaker in place, though the old commish (who tied) was certain that bench points was the tie-breaker, but nobody could remember that being a rule. The new commish was looking for suggestions, and we came up with decimal point scoring. It broke the tie, but the old commish lost as a result and went nuts. The new commish relented and said that the only fair thing was a rematch and pushing the championship back to week 17. Now, the other semi-finalist is upset that he may have to play the championship in week 17. What I don't get, and never will, is that the rules are the same for everyone (even if they don't exist), yet there's always someone who thinks he's getting screwed. I wouldn't want to be commish. I'd rather be the guy on the side fanning the flames - which I did throughout the process.
  12. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 08:52 AM) download an adobe PDF printer driver... this would install an new "printer" on your computer, then when you go to print the document, instead of printing it, select "Adobe PDF" which will then produce a PDF of the selected document instead of printing it. unfortunately, they only have this for Mac, but here is one you can use a free trial for the PC, though i have not used it myself. PDF Printer Driver: PC I downloaded it and it works fine. In the bottom right corner of each page it says "created using BCL easyPDF printer driver." A little tacky, but I only need it for some documents that I submit quarterly to the bank that lent me money for an apartment complex. Thanks much everyone, MB
  13. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Dec 18, 2006 -> 09:31 PM) Anyone have a good suggestion for a mattress brand? I don't even know where to start. I can sleep just about anywhere, the softer the better. Miss PA is about the same. anyone? My wife and I just did a mattress survey (we're on a list and get called occasionally for such things). It was for Temperpedic (sp?), which I think is Sealy, and I think it fits your needs. It basically molds to your body, but it's still firm. Really different from your normal mattress, but something to test and consider. They gave us $100 and a Temperpedic pillow for a 45 minute Q&A session. We also tested two mattresses for comfort.
  14. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Dec 17, 2006 -> 11:30 PM) Warren G. Harding was a total douchebag and you all know it, yet no one ever says anything. It's his association with Snoop that keeps me quiet.

This thread reminds me that I only had one friend with ONTV, and one day we were snooping in his parents bedroom and found their "Midnight Special" massage kit. *Smithers*

I signed up for Classmates 4 or 5 years ago, and after an initial interest in seeing who elso was signed up, I really never used it for anything. About a year ago, a guy I was friends with when I was ten or eleven sent me a Classmates greeting. I got the notification that this guy had sent me an email, but the catch is that you can't read it unless you too are a member. Now, if it was someone who I cared to reconnect with, I might consider joining to read the email. But, for someone who is probably just trying to get me involved in a pyramid scheme, I'll pass. Anyone ever use Classmates or one of these type things to contact someone?
  17. My a-hole neighbor spent - no lie - the month of November erecting his Christmas decorations. On December 1, my wife came home and he had a sandwich board on the curb announcing "Lighting Ceremony Tonight! 6:30pm Sharp." When I got home about an hour after the ceremony, the cul-de-sac was full with him, his a-hole family, and three neighbor families. They were all looking at the house when I pulled into my driveway. OK, his house looks nice, but not really any nicer than mine. It took me about 6 hours total over 2 days to string my trees, put up two stories of icicle lights, some candy cane lights, a small manger scene, an *ahem* iflatable snow globe, and wreath on my door. Six hours vs. one month. And I'm not exagerrating when I say he was out there for about four hours four days a week.

QUOTE(SnB @ Dec 14, 2006 -> 08:57 AM) so the next day will involve memorizing about 100 greek/roman gods and what their story was, only to forget it a few hours after the test. college is so useful I took 4 classic civ classes at U of I. It was very useful for Jeopardy - and nothing else.
  19. I love the Real World/Road Rules challenge shows, even though I no longer tune into the Real World and I never watched Road Rules - and I have a serious dislike for 95% of the people on the show.
  20. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Dec 11, 2006 -> 10:35 PM) that's what I'm talking about I just noticed that it's your sig, and I can't figure out how the tune goes with those words. Those guys are pure, unadulturated, blond headed geniuses.
  21. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Dec 11, 2006 -> 10:28 PM) For Blondie, Call Me, Heart of Glass or Rapture can do I guess. Rapture is a terrible song.
  22. I like mmmbop by Hanson.
  23. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 11:16 AM) I'm not going to pretend to know anything about this kid, but hopefully this is a sign of things to come from our international scouts. He was in the Little League World Series last year. From 45 feet he's unhittable. Don't know how that translates to MLB.
  24. I have a Taiwanese friend. He's Japanese.
  25. QUOTE(iamshack @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 11:30 AM) Some more rumor fodder, from Rotoworld, and it doesn't appear that anyone has a damned clue what KW has in mind: Mark Buehrle, Freddy Garcia, Jon Garland, Javier Vazquez - The White Sox still appear likely to move a starting pitcher, opening up a rotation spot for Brandon McCarthy. There were reports a couple of weeks ago about Garland being on his way to Texas, but besides Jose Contreras, he should be considered the least likely candidate to go. The other common rumors have been Garcia to the Angels and Vazquez to the Mets. Also, I wouldn't be surprised to see the Buehrle-to-St. Louis possibility pop up at some point. Possibility: Vazquez to Mets for Aaron Heilman and RHP Philip Humber Prediction: Stays Possibility: Buehrle to St. Louis for Chris Duncan and RHP Blake Hawksworth Prediction: Stays Possibility: Garcia, Brian Anderson and RHP Lance Broadway to Toronto for Vernon WellsPossibility: Garcia and Jerry Owens to Seattle for C Jeff Clement and George Sherrill Prediction: Goes Vernon Wells - If Alfonso Soriano is worth $138 million, Wells should receive a deal in excess of $150 million when he becomes a free agent next winter. He'll be two years younger than Soriano when he hit the market, and he has much more value on defense. Since the Blue Jays aren't likely to pay the price, Wells could be moved this winter. Texas is the top destination on everyone's mind, but because there's a good chance the Rangers can sign him as a free agent, it wouldn't make much sense to give up a king's ransom now. The White Sox should also be very interested, and the Angels might not rule him out even after overpaying for Gary Matthews Jr. Possibility: To Texas for Brad Wilkerson, LHP John Danks and RHP Wes Littleton Possibility: To Angels for Erick Aybar, Jeff Mathis and RHP Stephen Marek Prediction: Stays (until July) Carl Crawford, Rocco Baldelli - Crawford has been mentioned in connection with teams like the Angels and White Sox since the summer, but Baldelli looks like the better bet of the two to go now. The Rays wouldn't mind opening up an outfield spot for B.J. Upton, and either Crawford or Baldelli could bring the team the young pitching it needs. Some of the teams that could have checked into Baldelli's availability include the Marlins, Rangers, White Sox, Orioles, A's, Rockies, Brewers, Cubs and Red Sox. Possibility: Crawford to White Sox for Brandon McCarthy, Ryan Sweeney and David Aardsma Prediction: Stays Possibility: Baldelli to Florida for Scott Olsen and RHP Jose Garcia Possibility: Baldelli to Oakland for Joe Blanton and RHP Jason Windsor Possibility: Baldelli to Milwaukee for Jose Capellan, Carlos Villanueva and Greg Aquino Prediction: Goes Miguel Tejada - Since the Orioles are collecting veterans with the idea of being competitive in 2007, a trade seemed a lot more likely a year ago than it does now. Tejada only figures to move on if there's another star coming back in return. That said, if the Orioles could get the Angels to give up Casey Kotchman along with Ervin Santana and Erick Aybar, they really should go for it. Possibility: To White Sox for Jon Garland, Josh Fields and Brian Anderson Prediction: Stays Possibility: Figgins and Dallas McPherson to White Sox for Joe Crede I'm confused by Rotoworld's writing style. I'd like them to adopt the Larry King "..." style.
