Expanded Instant Replay
Baseball has long had this connection to the past that other sports have not had. After all, no one cares who the NBA all-time leading scorer is, etc. At least not in connection with today's NBA game. It's kind of a separate fact, not related. To me, the steroids era severs present baseball from its past, so therefore a game that is made more precise by replay or computer involvement is now possible. As others have been saying, I could see it getting farther along in 5 yrs.

WAS IT OVER WHEN THE GERMANS BOMBED PEARL HARBOR?
In this analogy, we are whatever the bomb actually hit. The Angels are the US in general.

These two things have to be said
Until this series the Twins have been wildly inconsistent as of late. Us too but we've been hurt more by injuries. The teams as they are right now...about even, just very different. I mean, that staff of theirs is pretty horrid guys. In road games that totally cancels out the execution w/ their bats.

Carlos Gomez
Gomez has the nerdiest reactions and struts i've ever seen from a pro athlete.

Cabrera Rips Teammates
I dont see this as ripping teammates Also, why are people saying he's the 'wrong guy to deliver the message' ? if he's right, he's right. he's one of the only guys who has a had a good offensive stretch. defensively he's been making some impressive plays to keep us in some of these games.

KW crying? Maybe he will finally do something!!!
Honestly I feel the team can win it all in 09 with OBP, speed and two bullpen arms have to come from somewhere... be it Poreda or others. I mean, we're all really down on this Dye slump but he had a really consistent season up until this end collapse. Thome meanwhile has been doing what we'd expect each of his years here. I have no problem seeing Paul Konerko as a replaceable member of this team, he can battle Swish if we get some OBP in the outfield. I want the bank broken for Hudson, surely i'm not alone on that here. Perhaps b/c of his age we wouldnt have to go too long term.

KW, win or lose, we need to rebuild for 2010/11
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 07:54 AM) I think there would be a split opinion on who would have the best numbers from 2009-2001, D. Young or Carlos Quentin. i think you meant who would have the best numbers from 2009 to 3001.

Rank Our MLB Roster: Best to Worst
QUOTE (3E8 @ Sep 20, 2008 -> 01:22 PM) Wow, look at Wise. If that was normalized for playing time, he'd skyrocket to the top while it's not totally indicative, it's scary how many HRs he'd have over a year vs. righties

September Heroes and Goats
QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ Sep 20, 2008 -> 01:11 PM) I really hope assuming we make playoffs Ozzie puts in Richard as the 2nd lefty over Ramirez.... with the emergence of Macdougal and I think Richard will be great in pen, our playoff bp might be one of the strengths. I have a fear that Ramirez would still be in the pen, even though Richard would be in as well. Then again he had no problem putting Duque in the pen even though he hadnt been a reliever all year. but thats in the case of a vet. on the flip side, McCarthy b/c of his youth was left off. I'm sure Richard has to be on though. That pen was actually, well, a pen.

QUOTE (SoxSider @ Sep 20, 2008 -> 12:40 PM) ???????? If he's pitching lefty today then suddenly the 3 days rest is not such a problem at all. He's just switching arms.

Rank Our MLB Roster: Best to Worst
What would be interesting is a list of their importance to the overall team strengths. which is kind of chicken and the egg, but it would really highlight the importance of Cabrera, who is rare on this roster for being able to make contact, get on base and maybe steal And then make less important someone like Swisher, who is more of the same re: power but low speed and (this yr) disappointing OBP
-
Rank Our MLB Roster: Best to Worst
Swisher could be over Griffey for defensive utility, but as far as what the team needs Griffey is a lot more valuable being able to actually put a bat on the ball. 1) Quentin 2) Alexei 3) Floyd 4) Danks 5) Dye 6) Thome 7) OC 8) Thornton 9) PK 10) Jenks 11) AJ 12) Uribe 13) Griffey 14) Dotel 15) Wise 16) Swish er but throw Javy somewhere smack in the middle, and if Linebrink is 100% healthy he's top 5 What would be a lot of fun is if someone put up their estimate of an Ozzie list. 1) Jerry Owens 2) Jerry Owens 3) Jerry Owens 4) Jerry Owens 5) Jerry Owens 999) Jerry Owens

Injury status aside
QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 20, 2008 -> 11:55 AM) Oh, I see. I'd play him one game to see where he's at, and what kind of at-bats he's getting. I guess if there's a lefty that Thome cant hit, i'd DH him no matter the opponent, just to get an idea of how synced up he is.

Injury status aside
QUOTE (Whitewashed in '05 @ Sep 20, 2008 -> 10:51 AM) Yeah, I know this is a pennant race and we could really use our best hitter, but I think everyone's being a bit too optimistic. Fair enough, but the Sox are obviously having these conversations just in case, so we can too. They wouldnt be doing all this medical stuff w/ Quentin if they werent at least giving it a shot. QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 20, 2008 -> 10:49 AM) I'm having trouble understanding the question. If we aren't worried about his injury status or are otherwise disregarding it, why wouldn't you play him? Because the question is would you debut him in the Minnesota series when he could be super rusty. while Wise is currently hitting for power, laying down bunts, speed, some d, etc. Other option is trying to seal the deal in Minny w/o him, and then use him in Cleveland to get him a little time to acclimate. (well option 3 would be debut him in the playoffs, but that doesnt really apply here since no one would have a non-injury related reason for doing that)

Injury status aside
QUOTE (ChWRoCk2 @ Sep 19, 2008 -> 10:40 PM) No need to push the panic button and bring CQ back. Until were only a .5 game up I'd keep him out of the lineup to let him rest for the playoffs. but then any fear that he's rusty/getting back into the groove on playoff time?

Injury status aside
QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Sep 19, 2008 -> 10:36 PM) who has been gone for months? Are they bringing Contreras back? good call. typing too fast, pre-thinking although i will say extensive Mike Mac exposure makes time slow down.
-
Injury status aside
To me the Twins series is too important to bring back a guy who's been gone months. It's a lot easier to say w/ Wise hitting for power lately... but honestly i think that's too much of an x-factor. Seal the deal in Minnesota for post season... THEN bring c.q. back versus Cleveland at the earliest. I wouldnt want him going in cold for the playoffs. How early would you bring him back (again, assuming he's cleared and injury status aside)

AND THATS A WHITE SOX WINNER
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 19, 2008 -> 09:43 PM) A win like this looks so good. Dotel and Linebrink pitched well . Swish looked good and so did Wise. If the injury to Quentin a has bright side its that Ozzie hopefully has learned that using Wise and Anderson for pinch hitting duties wouldn't be such a bad thing as the season winds down and the post season beckons. Even better is that we can potentially go with Wise in left and still make the playoffs. thereby giving Quentin every extra second to get healthy. Although I'd think if he's cleared he should play some regular season just to make sure he's not a total mess and out of sync. i dont see any way they could bring cq back earlier than cleveland, injury status completely aside.
