QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Sep 20, 2006 -> 10:55 AM) I would hold onto all of our pitchers now and see what ST brings and make trade decisions then. Buerhle, Garcia, Contreras, Vazquez and Garland have the talent and I an not sure trading any of them would be the right thing to do. I am not impressed with McCarthy and don't see him as being ready to take over a starting role. too much money tied up in the rotation, as is, for a team that has other needs. and while i know pitching was a problem this year, i think McCarthy absolutely has to be in there for one of these bigger money guys. we need to free up some money to add position players. and if that seems cheap, remember that before 05 we cut ties with big payday guys in order to fill multiple needs.

QUOTE(PlunketChris @ Sep 20, 2006 -> 10:14 AM) Remember when Jon Garland was having a poor start to this season and everyone put up the white flag on him... "Trade Judy Garland" I believe was a common cry. Suck it up and stick with your boys. the big difference here, is one figured out how to pitch. the other had already figured it out long ago, but is experiencing problems that may be physical. if you can get a great package for him, he's gone. what separates us from the northside brass is the willingness to let loose the longtime fan favorites, if it means getting a great influx of talent. again, it has to be a good deal. remember, if it's for young, proven talent...then it might free up free agent $$ for us too.
  3. QUOTE(beleiveinbrian44 @ Sep 4, 2006 -> 12:02 AM) thanks, the bet was w/ the dishwasher bc i HATE doin it its nasty, i think ill win too my dad thinks hes always right so i want to prove him wrong once. i did spell BELIEVE wrong but microsoft word said it was right so whatever. go brian be glad you dont have to scrub dishes nightly. i am my dishwasher.
  4. QUOTE(AbeFroman @ Aug 31, 2006 -> 03:14 PM) Jumping totally off topic, My comcast bill is outrageous. I get Cable and Internet. I subscribe to HBO, DVR, and OnDemand. My monthly bill is 143 bucks. That seems like a lot. I'm thinking about calling them to tell them I might switch... see if they will lower the rate. Anyone have any success with that type of thing? for some reason my cable works all the time w/ them, but my internet connection is off and on.
  5. according to espn.com scoreboard, i gather that Jesse Camp is pitching
  6. i predict we will need more wins than two of these three teams: Detroit, Minnesota, Boston. !
  7. QUOTE(Felix @ Aug 24, 2006 -> 03:16 PM) To each his own. I disagree. well, this is to everyone. defining this sort of thing in rigid ways is a hopeful exercise, ultimately leads to nowhere. Garland's having a good stretch and is helping this team stay in two races. he's also no Roger Clemens. it is what it is. oh god i'm hawk.
  8. QUOTE(VAfan @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 11:42 AM) If Uribe can play, I would consider sending Ozuna down to give him some ABs. Right now he's of zero value to the team. Once he starts hitting again, I would sub him for Pods or Iguchi against some lefties. When Ozuna was on early in the year, he sparked us to some wins. a little rash there.
  9. yes, for the eight thousandth time, Billy Beane did not write Moneyball. thats why it doesnt matter in these terms. yes it depicts KW getting screwed over, but it's probably just one glimpse of the sort of thing that happens 30 times per offseason, between everyone and everyone.
  10. good lord, if Soriano were to come here, it would be a no brainer that Pods sits down/ships out. Those two are LFs, if they're in this uniform. even if i'd rather not have Soriano as a leadoff hitter, you'd have to look around and realize he's the best option for us there (barring any major additional changes) QUOTE(kane0730 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 03:18 PM) This morning KW said something to the effect of looking at 3 way trade possibilites. Anyone think this could work?: Sox Get: Soriano Heilman Mets Get: Garcia/Javy Nats Get: Prospects from Mets & Sox Mets would have to be giving up some pretty weak prospects for that to work.
  11. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 02:57 PM) That's been there for hours. He's just reacting to the premature reporting by his own network yesterday. He's just reacting to the fact his employer is shameless garbage.
  12. i like how people are laying down the truth in the last couple posts. Colbert would be proud.
  13. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 12:43 PM) Levine chiming in = kiss of death. Deal is officially dead. my thoughts exactly
  14. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 27, 2006 -> 07:20 PM) LOL, number one thing I find my fellow sox fans to be most delusional about: thinking that the majority of their fellow sox fans think Scott Podsednik is a great player. ok now my turn...
  15. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 27, 2006 -> 07:16 PM) Yep, he's one of the best in baseball at it. However, he needs to get a bigger lead than what he had if he wants to be successful. number one things that i find my fellow sox fans to be most delusional about: the skills of Scott Podsednik.
  16. QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 07:58 AM) I wonder if anyone every went up to Ozzie and said he you know how you hear us say f.a.g all the time....that really menas a gay person. I mean think about it...f.a.g isn't taught to anyone when learning English. You just hear other people use it. I'm sure "f***in f.a.g" has been uttered a s*** load of times in front of ozzie and it probably never was used to reference a "gay" person. It was just used as a swear. I'm just saying maybe he's telling the truth when he said he thought it meant somethign different. Ah whatever..he'll go to his training and learn in our PC world there are things you don't say. Hopefully he'll be the same guy, but just learn some new words to use. ozzie has been here a long time. his english is not bad at all for a non-native speaker, he says what he wants to with ease. he knows the contexts of that word. he's right that in his native language, "maricon" has connotations that "f.a.g" doesn't. but he knows better than to apply the circumstances he grew up in...to everywhere. right and wrong is determined by time and place, whether we like it or not.
  17. the real insult to gay people here is that they're being compared to Mariotti
  18. QUOTE(CardsJimEdmonds15 @ Jun 20, 2006 -> 09:16 PM) Never was feeling it tonight.. no hard feelings (just not happy with my team tonight).. sweep us!! cmon now thats cubby style talk
  19. timo couldve been our answer in CF
  20. it seems like these rankings are always about teams playing to whatever their own full potential is. so if yr a defending champ, that bar is going to be very high - and i know no one on this board thinks we've met that yet.
  21. how does this inning affect Jon's allstar possibilities?
  22. QUOTE(The-Legend-Of-Pujols @ Jun 17, 2006 -> 03:45 PM) Carlos Marmol will be better than any Sox pitcher in a couple of years you can bet on that. I HATE the Cubs because Im a Die Hard Cardinals fan but Marmol is my favorite pitcher in the league because he has a cannon for an arm and is so poise and has a great curveball with an upper 90's fastball. Carlos Marmol will be the Rookie-Of the-Year. it's possible this poster may actually be Carlos Marmol.
  23. Brian Anderson for President, the first redhaired president of our nation's history. ok that is not accurate.
  24. these are two different statements: 1) his form looks good 2) his problem is all mental i dont know if people here are crossing those up or what, but it's not necessarily a mental problem when you've just been called up from the minors and are seeing MLB sliders for the first time. what you need is to see more of them. but that said, some time in the minors could be the best thing, especially since we have needs elsewhere right now.
  25. by the thread title, i expected this to be about how Brian Anderson has the Sox wanting some CF draft picks.
