Sox Sign Kelvin Herrera; 2 years/$18 mil, 3rd yr club option; Clarkin DFA
I won't think it's the middle until we get more farm production on the MLB field.

Unless they're thinking long term and want to keep the farm stocked. This rebuild still hinges on Moncada, Robert, Eloy, Kopech, Cease, Dunning etc.

Whether we sign Machado or Harper, we're still at least 2 years from competing. Signing a legit reliever while his value is down to a 2 year deal looks like a rebound and flip deal. This is still the beginning of a major rebuild.

Seems way more like a sign and trade for 'spects deal than trying to compete deal to me.

Machado signs with Padres 10/300
I'm on board for 7/210. I'd definitely prefer Machado over Harper, especially at that price. From a marketing perspective, the Sox need to continue to grind away at the Latino market. We'll never compete with the Cubs for the affluent white market.

Prospect Live Sox top 30 podcast
I've never seen that Robert HR before... man, that's something. That sound. That's about pure as a ball can be hit.

Machado: Update - Manny, do you officially like us?
How would any of us know? We're only privy to information filtered through people that are paid to filter information.

Offseason plan in the event the Sox don't get HarpChado
I mean, Philly is the dirtiest city I've ever seen in my life. The tap water is really fuckin good though.

Offseason plan in the event the Sox don't get HarpChado
The Sox are like the cousin of the A's with a credit card.

Offseason plan in the event the Sox don't get HarpChado
Nice work. Hopefully all those teams weren't hinging their future on those signings.

Offseason plan in the event the Sox don't get HarpChado
I brought up the Mets and Angels because they both have a smaller share of a market, like we do. I'll buy mid-market, but I see very little upside. The Cubs popularity is pretty set in stone and the South Side isn't a great place to see a ball game, like it or not.

Because $$$ and market share.

We might get some surprises with guys like Adolfo or Rutherford, but this rebuild hinges on the big 3, at least offensively.

Offseason plan in the event the Sox don't get HarpChado
We most likely have 30% of a 9,000,000 person market. We're definitely smaller than the Mets and Angels, who share a much larger market. I'm surprised people haven't actually quantified the stats. I see a lot of talk about how we could be bigger, but I see very little evidence that we actually are bigger.

Also, if Moncada, Robert and/or Jimenez don't become stars, the rebuild ain't gonna amount to much anyway.

Offseason plan in the event the Sox don't get HarpChado
The Sox are basically a small market team. They can't afford those risks. I think I'm just more realistic about the Sox position in the market than some of you guys.

Hahaha. You just completely defined some really arbitrary numbers and tried to send me on a mission? Good luck with that.

Offseason plan in the event the Sox don't get HarpChado
I can just as easily name a series of 3 WAR players that hit as you can that missed. That's part of the game. The good thing is that 3 WAR players that don't hit also don't cost nearly half a billion dollars.

It's a lot less dangerous than signing Harper and having him underperform or get hurt, which is a very realistic possibility.
-
Offseason plan in the event the Sox don't get HarpChado
I'm the complete opposite. I hope our 6 WAR players are Moncada or Jimenez or Robert and we sign a couple 3 WAR players to fill in the holes. The Sox can't afford to miss on 6 WAR free agents. Nothing will cripple this franchise faster than signing Harper long term and having him repeat last season.

How about a 1.3 WAR player for $400M? ? I get where you're coming from, but I've never seriously entertained the idea that either would come. I'm not really upset because I think both players are overrated. The Sox will be a more attractive destination when the prospects start hitting. There will be more opportunities to add. It doesn't have to be a 5 WAR player. It can be a pair of 3 WAR players for less money.

It's the baseball equivalent of asking your dad, "Are we there yet?" a few hours into a road trip.

I swear a few of you guys have been in a mental tailspin since Kopech went down. No matter who this team signs they're still at least 2 years from contending. Stay the course. The only way this ship is righted is if guys like Anderson and Moncada develop and around 5 of the top 10 prospects hit. Relax and try to enjoy player development.

Harper to Phillies 13yr/330 mil
Kind of makes me think wasting that much money on him is incredibly stupid. In fairness, it's skewed by dWAR, which I find to be a completely useless stat. Harper is a hack of a fielder, my eyeballs will tell me that over 9 innings, but when you're investing that much money, I'm gonna need the total package.
