  1. It would be very White Sox to finally get a big name FA and have it be one of the more overrated players around. Meh, not my money.
  2. I have a hard time correlating injuries and the performance of a trainer, especially considering a lot of injuries are freak accidents. Now, I think you can correlate recovery with trainers, as trainers play an active role in how a player rehabs.
  3. Leury is a failed prospect who carved out a niche, plays a ton of positions, is pretty productive and he's cheap. He's fun to watch because he's fast and he's a good fielder. He's easy to root for. Context is important.
  4. Even on this site the obsession with K's is insane. That results of that poll are crazy, but not that surprising.
  5. Anecdote time: He came into a restaurant I worked with last year. I was there meeting the owner. I talked to Thome for a few minutes. He's as cordial as anyone you'll ever meet. He tipped $120 on a $100 bill.
  6. I really agree with this, but if Sweeney were a prospect today, I'd still rank him highly. You can't teach that swing. I'm still pretty shocked he busted.
  7. I think K's are vastly overrated these days, but with that said, Moncada needs to put the ball in play more because of his speed. For the Adam Dunns of the world, it doesn't matter, but fast players waste their speed by k'ing.
  8. I don't think there's more than 5 baseball players that are household names. Machado ain't one of em.
  9. Manny Machado has about as much star power as Leury Garcia. Michael Jordan has about as much star power as the pope. You don't see the difference?
  10. For this Sox team to be a playoff team, we'd have to add Machado, have significant improvement from Yoan, Gio and Lopez, as well as find a real CF, C and RF. Good luck with that.
  11. Machado doesn't turn this Sox team into a playoff team either. We're still a couple years away. Relax, and look at the bigger picture.
  12. The idea that this Sox team is 2 weeks of Eloy Jimenez away from the playoffs is absurd.
  13. I'd also guess there was a much more substantial ROI for a signing/resigning a basketball player in the 80's or 90's than signing a baseball player in 2018. Jordan was a bonafide star with cult like celebrity status. Nobody outside of baseball fans knows who Manny Machado is. So even aside from his play, you were going to make big money by signing Michael Jordan.
  14. Michael Jordan's contract as precedent for a baseball contract is one of the more bizarre arguments I've seen on this site. Like, what? We're comparing resigning the best basketball player to ever live to signing a FA in a totally different sport.
  15. What would call the late 90's? That wasn't a teardown?
  16. They were so bad they created a marketing campaign to ease the minds of fans.
  17. I think the Sox are in a position where they have to greatly outbid teams. Playing on the Southside isn't very attractive. Nobody wants to play for small crowds in the Second City for the city's other team. I don't think the Sox will outbid other teams considering their history. Nor do I think they should.
  18. I'm far from an ownership hater. I actually kind of like Reinsdorf. If I was running a mid market team, I wouldn't invest a quarter billion dollars into 1 player either. It's incredibly foolish.
