  1. Okay, so if you have roughly 1/3rd of the Chicago market, I don't want to hear shit about having the advantage of playing in Chicago. The Sox simply can't afford to invest so many of their assets into 1 player. That's just foolish. They need to develop their stars and fill holes wisely in the FA market.
  2. There's maybe 5 pitchers in all of baseball capable of throwing a 97mph 2 seamer. Giolito, at his best, ain't one of them and never will be.
  3. I don't think the Sox are in the position, or ever will be, to buy their franchise players. They have to produce them. Our free agent acquisitions should be the second and third tier types to fill roster holes. That's just the reality of our market position. If we buy a franchise player, and he fails, we're fucked for years. Too much risk for one player.
  4. I was a hater towards the end, but I got way more emotional than I thought I would. I've spent literally thousands of hours of my life listening to him.
  5. I actually hope his defensive metrics are bad so it helps reinforce how bad defensive metrics are.
  6. Do people actually think TA isn't a good defender?
  7. He kind of reminds me of Chris Carter in that he's an incredibly flawed player with 1 really loud tool. There's no reason to not give him another year of AB's and see where we're at in 2020.
  8. Like I said, I don't have a problem with the pick because it's safe and he probably won't miss, but to expect anything above a 725 ops with solid defense is just setting yourself up for disappointment.
  9. I get what you're saying, it's just completely outlandish. Vizquel without the defense is basically David Eckstein, so again, wtf. What's next, Dustin Podroia without the power? Frank Thomas without the walks and power?
  10. If you can come with a better comp than a SS in the hall of fame and a 2nd baseman known for 2 things Madrigal doesnt do, steal bases and walk, then I'm all ears.
  11. Also, Altuve is clearly on enough juice to make Barry Bonds blush. Another strange comparison.
  12. You're comparing a 2nd baseman in A ball to a Hall of Fame/best defender in the history of the game SS and I'm being "way too crazy?" Wtf?
  13. I'm not sure if you guys are overrating Madrigal or underrating Eckstein, but it's a really logical comparison.
  14. It's a weird comparison. You're basically robbing Vizquel of his primary value, that of being an all time great defender. The Castillo comparison is way off too. A lot of his value was in that he walked a ton and stole a ton of bases.
  15. Prime Vizquel? Oh ffs, come on. Vizquel is probably the greatest defensive SS of all time. Madrigal most likely won't even stick at SS in the majors, so it's an odd comparison. The only difference I see between Madrigal and Eckstein is that Madrigal will probably hit for a higher average, but walk a lot less. So they're basically even OPS wise.
  16. With a slightly higher BA and fewer BB's. Yeah. I think that's a great comp actually.
  17. Obviously I'm no expert, but a player has to have a higher upside for me to put him in the top 20. I look at Madrigal and see David Eckstein, which is fine and I'm not mad about the pick, but I expect top 20 players to have more potential.
  18. Cease at 95 and Madrigal at 19 makes it hard for me to take this list seriously.
  19. Man, that rant is almost as bad as the guy who wouldn't count Joe Crede stats if we had a lead.
  20. I'd much rather see him eventually hit 3rd with Anderson in the 2 hole. If we're looking at this in 3 years, I'd be ecstatic. Obviously it won't shake out this way. Collins Anderson Moncada Jimenez Robert Aldofo Rutherford Madrigal
  21. Avi has an issue with his swing that's visible by just looking at any 1 of his AB's. I've never been fan because of that.
  22. The thing people are missing with Yoan is that he has a really high maintenance approach that's going to take a while to develop. It's a lot easier for aggressive hitters to adjust to big league stuff and the big league zone. Moncada will be fine.
  23. Whenever I find myself allowing entertainment to negatively affect my life, I take a step back. For whatever reason 2005 went a long way to satiate me. I can't remember the last time a sporting even actually affected me negatively.
