  1. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 01:38 PM) Anybody got the final W/L count for interleague play? from baseball-reference AL leads NL 149-102 (1247 runs to 1010)
  2. yeah, Sheets for the Brew Crew, Slowey for the Twins. It will be a tough game. Slowey is Blyleven-like in his HR rate it seems The Brewers are not a good fit for him. Michael Cuddyer is going to be out for a while. He has been playing with an injured finger, and it finally got to him last night. I guess his last at bat, he was swing with one hand (still got a single). He is not on the DL, but my hunch is that he will go on there. Alexi Casilla also has sore fingers after he slid into a base last night, but its not expected to be serious. BTW, what you saw tonight is a typical Livan game. But the offense was a no show tonight so he gets tagged with the loss
  3. I dont know how the Twins do it every year too, I just go for the ride! This year has been a bit of luck. Look at the runners in scoring position stat. The Twins are batting something like .314 and the next one down is .280 something. Livan Hernadez is the luckiest pitcher in baseball. his Wins/Loss says he is decent to good, but he gives up about 2 hits per inning. Hes got a 2 to 1 K/BB ration, but its only like 30 K's to 15 BBs. He just doesnt miss bats. Yet there he is, 7 wins, and the team has won something like 12 of his starts. This series against the Brewers, the Twins are out slugged by 50 HRs, yet the Twins have one of the best runs scored offenses in the league. its like bizzaro world with this team. I read your guys thought about how the Twins just pick up a player out of nowhere and he becomes good. I just chuckle and dismiss it. Maybe I follow the team to closely. But 2 players have done that this year. Brian Buscher has played 15 games and has driven in 17 runs, or something to that effect. Mike Lamb, how the Twins are paying good money too, has not started a game in about 2 weeks in favor of this minimum wage guy. Alexi Casilla looked uninterested in playing baseball this Spring training. I guess he didnt come out of nowhere, but he has been a dissappointment for about a year in a half. he got called up in desperation in May and has just took off. He never showed power in the minores, but has 4 HRs this year and more RBI than Delmon Young All that said, I am still haunted by that 4 game shallacking at the Cell about a month ago. That was just bad baseball
  4. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 27, 2008 -> 11:52 PM) The Tigers getting back to about .500 now could be a big problem though, I am surprised their pitching is doing enough to let them slowly creep back up. Just think how good thier pitching would be if they did not trade away Jair Jurrjens. 3.20 ERA in 90 innings pitched. 7 wins.
  5. QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Jun 27, 2008 -> 10:56 PM) I think all 5 AL Central teams won tonight. you are correct the KC Royals have been crushing the NL this year. 13-3 with thier win Friday. so thats 24 wins against the AL, 13 against the NL. good gravy.
  6. Mauer just crushed a HR to take the lead in the 8th sorry guys
  7. but, when the Sox and Twins are competitive with each other, it makes for great baseball all summer
  8. Interleague records before todays games (better records are bolded) 2008: MIN 11-3 CWS 8-6 2007: MIN 11-7 CWS 4-14 2006: MIN 16-2 CWS 14-4 2005: MIN 8-10 CWS 12-6 2004: MIN 11-7 CWS 8-10 2003: MIN 10-8 CWS 10-8 2002: MIN 10-8 CWS 8-10 2001: MIN 9-9 CWS 12-6 2000: MIN 7-11 CWS 12-6 1999: MIN 10-7 CWS 9-9 1998: MIN 7-9 CWS 7-9 1997: MIN 7-8 CWS 8-7
  9. Tribe sign Juan Rincon to a minor league deal good luck with that
  10. thats gotta be a fake. listen when the ball is hit. it sounds like something from a sound effect cd
  11. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 19, 2008 -> 10:47 AM) Explaining what happened when Jose Reyes put up a fight when asked to leave Tuesday's game with a hamstring injury, manager Jerry Manuel joked: "I told him next time he does that I'm going to get my blade out and cut him. I'm a gangster. You go gangster on me, I'm going to have to get you. You do that again, I'm going to cut you right on the field." Manuel has been on the job for less than a week, but that has to be the leader in the clubhouse for managerial Quote of the Year. He was known as a relatively laid back manager while with the White Sox, but has apparently been sharpening his blades and taking gangster lessons since then. Reyes returned to the lineup Wednesday and went 3-for-5 with a steal, three runs and zero incidents of going gangster. Jun. 19 - 9:28 am et thats great
  12. MLB 'fast play' ruling has its points. Getting temas like the BoSox and yankees to pick up the pace of play is a good thing, in my mind (especially when they play each other. 4 1/2 hour 9 innings games just bores me) But Tuesday afternoon, MLB fined Ron Gardenhire for 'slow play'. Its kinda rediculous because the Twins play the fastest games is baseball! (the average was something like 2:45) So of course, Tueday nights game against the Nats went a breezy 1:59
  13. Gomez is only 22 years old. The thing that Gomez does is he tries to bunt with 2 strikes. I bet he has struck out 15 times this year trying to do that. But, Gomez has shown some power this year (5 HR bunch of doubles) and he is super fast on the bases (although his SB% has dropped the last few weeks). its just a learning year for him and I think he will be a stud. Cuddyer had a hand injury early this year thats why his numbers are down. the last week he has shawn more power. Delmon Young looks overmatched. He finally hit a HR Saturday. I will say that he has hit the ball harder that last week than most of the year. Maybe he has turned a corner. He has walked more than this year than last. But his fielding...wow he gets lost a lot Everett stinks. He had a bum shoulder is on the DL. I predicted the Twins would be a .500 team this year. Its just one of those year where you have a bunch of young pitchers and get them mjor league innings.
  14. QUOTE (Gregory Pratt @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 04:30 PM) Who was the last switch-hitter to win an AL MVP award? I want to say Mickey Mantle, but there has got to be somebody later than that
  15. QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 11:05 AM) Who was the last Negro League player to play in the major leagues? Hank Aaron?
  16. Craig Monroe was something like 0-19 before that at bat too.
  17. I was really excited when Delmon was traded to the Twins. I thought here's a guy that can add a power threat to the the lineup. So far, he has hit 2 balls real deep. One in Detroit, but the outfielder stole a HR away from him, and one in Oakland, where he hit the top of a new scoreboard that would of been a HR last year. But of those hits where in the 2nd or 3rd week of the season. He really hasnt hit the ball hard all year, and its a bit dissapointing. And his outfield play is less than desired, but as a whole, the Twins defense is pretty stinky this year
  18. Dusty totally mismanged the bullpen. Well, first of all the start went something like 4 innings. But then in the 10th or 11th, he brought in his long relivers, but then pulled him after 2/3rds on an inning. So after that inning, they were out of relief pitchers
  19. the Padres just played an 18 inning game. Those folks should really learn how to win or lose before the 10th. Aaron Harrang pitced 4 inning of relief and struck out 9! Edinson Volquez came in and pitched the rest of the way for the Reds. Adrian Gonzalez hit a 3 run blast in the 18t after the Reds 1st baseman bobbled a grounder with 2 out. Some pitcher named Banks for the Padres pitched 5 innings of relief. crazy
  20. Evan Longoria just doubled in the game winning run for the Rays. Man, they are playing some great baseball
  21. QUOTE (Gregory Pratt @ May 20, 2008 -> 12:33 PM) Josh Hamilton for MVP! I guess during batting practice yesterday at the Dome, he hit a ball way out in right field, and hit the Division Championship banner.
  22. and on the first pitch he gets a single. oh my
