MLB Rules Changes
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 19, 2007 -> 02:17 PM) I like the speed up rules, but the big thing they could do is cut down on commericial time, just like every other sport. its only 90 seconds in between innings, 2 minutes for ESPN games (which they could cut down) -- who puts licorice on a baseball?

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jan 3, 2007 -> 07:32 PM) They better start printing those ALDS tickets up north with this move. this was my reaction this offseason has been a bit dissapointing. The payroll was supposed to go up because attendance was up last year we get Rondell White back, and sign Jeff Cirillo and Sidney Ponson bleh

Abramoff still lurks around
http://blogs.abcnews.com/theblotter/2006/1...off_report.html the story goes on to say that Jack is spilling the beans on Karl Rove too, but since Jack is going to jail, its going to be harder to get information. Which doesnt make any sense to me, they know where he lives!

Francisco Liriano out for 2007
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 3, 2006 -> 07:22 PM) You know alot more than us Jim, what do you think, or what have you heard about the Twins off-season moves? You think they go after a FA pitcher or just go with Santana Garza Silva Boof Baker...? I think I read where Terry Ryan was going after a back of the rotation SP a lot of Twins fans want an upgrade at 3B(including me), but it sounds like Punto is going to stay there. and they are going after a DH and a utility infielder for a backup roll The way it sounded, the Twins are going in the off season like last offseason, looking at the bargin racks and seeing what sticks. But with Liriano out, I havent caught up on what they are going to do with that hole.

Francisco Liriano out for 2007
the budget is going up from last year because attendance was good also players like Stewart and Radke are coming off the books so far the Twins picked up options on Hunter and Silva (gag) and looks to lock up Morneau, Mauer and or Cuddyer

Why are Cub fans soooo in love with Girardi?
as an outsider to the Cubs fandom, I see Giradi as an inspired choice. Something little different. No one really gave the Marlins a chance, but he managed them to respectablity this year. One year fluke? maybe, but whats the Cubs got to lose With Pinella, I see a tired. uninspried, 'same ol same ol' choice. But again, what does the Cub franchise got to lose here. When things are down, you can take bets and when Lou will blow up on an umpire

MLB has new tentative CBA
I agree about how little pub this is getting. I saw it on the breaking news corner yesterday on ESPN News. But because it was thier heavy NFL coverage, there was no analysis of it. And I dont think I heard about it on Sports Center

Minnesota Twins Post Mortem Playoff Thread
yeah, there are a lot of fans that like him (all of my office, and my parents being among them) I just think 12 million is a lot of money for him. But one thing I didnt know until today is that his old contract has a clause in it that his option had to be picked up within 5 days of the end of the season. So Terry Ryan picked up the option to be on the safe side. Personally, I think he will be traded by the time spring training comes along. The fake grass at the CrappyDome and his recent foot/ankle problem has really played havoc on his defensive range. But there is no one in the organization to replace him.

from what I gathered, the payroll is going to go up a little bit plus Brad Radke and Shannon Stewart's contracts are coming off the books so there is a little flexiblity

Torre's Job is Safe
What does Pinella bring that Torre cant? I dont know, it seems like a serious downgrade to me. But, I have a feeling that Torre is still going to be managing next year

Minnesota Twins Post Mortem Playoff Thread
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 9, 2006 -> 05:18 PM) But in Minny's bullpen, there's some real candidates for regression next year as well. As the White Sox saw painfully this year, there's a ton of variation in bullpen performance for many pitchers from year to year. Minny's bullpen got dynamite years from guys like Matt Guerrier, Jesse Crain, Pat Neshek, Dennys Reyes, and "Steroids" Rincon. Yes, Nathan will be good next year barring injury. But there's a high probability that at least one, if not several, of those guys will wind up taking steps backwards next year, because that is just how things go in bullpens. I thought Crain has a mediocre year. But he did go 23 inning without a run late in the year. Rincon started solid, but really trailed off at the end of the year. Reyes will never have a year like he did last year, and Neshek I dont know about since he came in half way through the year. Lefties seemed to hurt Neshek more than righties, so maybe he is a ROOGY

it was a nice run, but some good things come to a crashing firey end. next year should be fun with Santana/Liriano/Boof as the 1-2-3 pitchers.

Minnesota Twins Post Mortem Playoff Thread
QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 6, 2006 -> 04:08 PM) Will someone please explain to me why Gardenhire was so intent on playing smallball today, when he has a pitcher on the mound who clearly has no shot of shutting down the opponent? hes done it before in playoffs past. The strategy changes once its October. It also doesnt help that the Twins offense cant get a runner in from scroing position
