  1. Frank Thomas has been killing the Twins since 1991..or whenever he steppede into the league drill him! but that was a good baseabll game. The Twins lineup cant hit pitchers like Zito, who throw soft stuff in good locations.
  2. I see they are losing tonight, the Astros already won today. The if hold up, the Cards would have a 1/2 game lead Could we be seeing the biggest collaspe ever?
  3. I would say Garza, or Baker who has pitched pretty good against the Yanks this year (12 IP/2 ER/2 Wins)
  4. QUOTE(Whitewashed in @ Sep 27, 2006 -> 05:38 PM) Congrats, and once again we have a good rivalry to look forward to. and if the Tigers are good again next year.. very nice and tough division! Sounds like a playoff rotation is almost set Santana going game 1, then BOOF game 2, and depends how Radke's shoulder does tomorrow (he's starting against the Royals) he gets game 3
  5. thanks. I didnt want to post anything for fear of 'rubbing it in' I gotta be honest. I didnt think the Twins would be in the playoffs around the all star break. I mean they went on that long win streak and gained just about nothing and I was just hoping for a decent 3rd place finish
  6. good point, but Yahoo doesnt have a sortable defensive stat thing. Morneau used to be a train wreck defesively (especially filling the shoes of Mientkiewicz), but he has really improved this year. btw, Dye would be #1 on my MVP ballot
  7. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 7, 2006 -> 01:48 PM) I just dont get the Morneau love. His numbers just arent that great IMO, his slugging avg is well below the main guys in that group, and he also doesnt play defense. Morneau has 7 errors this year in 1211 chances (.994) Dye has 5 errors in 275 chances (.982) Jeter has 12 errors in 521 chances (.977) I know errors is a stat left up to the scorekeeper, but maybe you are shortchanging him on defense a bit Morneau is no gold glover, but it is no error machine either
  8. the Yanks series this weekend is Silva, Baker, Garza eeeep
  9. wow the Royals could beat the Twins tonight its 2-0 in the top of the 9th. Matt Garza pitched very good, just ran into a couple of bloopers in the 5th inning
  10. I cant believe I got excited when rumors were floating arounf last year that Kris Benson might be in a Twins uni the Twins are teeing off on him. Mauer with a double and triple and Morneau with a HR and its only the 3rd inning
  11. who knew that fatboy Denny Reyes would be a key player. But its pretty nice to know the if the bats get enough runs by the 7th and 8th inning, its pretty much a win. a luxary that the Yanks and BoSox seems to never spend money on.
  12. Garza picked up his first major league win tonight. 6 IP 1 run. and the Twins win 4-1
  13. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 23, 2006 -> 07:59 AM) I think it might have been against the Sox in something like 1984 or 1985 right? Didn't he give up the record of 50 homers in one year? All I remember is that the Sox middle of the order used to kick his ass like nobodies business, especially Ron Kittle. Bert's record is 50 HR in 1986 (either the year before or after he gave up something like 48 or 49) He is the Twins TV color guy, and he was talking about his 5 HR game (also in 86), he said he pitched a complete game and got the win.
  14. Silva just tied a Twins record by giving up 5 HR in a game. Bert Blyeven (shock!) also gave up 5 for the Twins
  15. good news for you guys, Carlos Silva is gettting rocked by the Orioles 4-1 O's bottom of 4 make it 5-1 now Nick Markakis is 3-3 with 3 HR. wow.
  16. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 08:53 PM) Just researched it a little... Low ERAs by Rockies starters Marvin Freeman - 2.80 in 112.2 IP(1994) Joe Kennedy - 3.66 in 162.1 IP(2004) Jef Francis - 3.38 in 159.2 IP(2006) Jason Jennings - 3.32 in 178.2 IP(2006) Isn't that something I dont remember Marvin Freeman I looked it up on baseball-reference.com yikes 2005 Colorado Rockies 5.13 2004 Colorado Rockies 5.54 2003 Colorado Rockies 5.20 2002 Colorado Rockies 5.20 2001 Colorado Rockies 5.29 2000 Colorado Rockies 5.26 1999 Colorado Rockies 6.02 1998 Colorado Rockies 5.00 1997 Colorado Rockies 5.25 1996 Colorado Rockies 5.60 1995 Colorado Rockies 4.97 1994 Colorado Rockies 5.15 1993 Colorado Rockies 5.41
  17. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 05:37 PM) Just curious, has Colorado ever had a team ERA in the top 5 this late in the season? Their 4.09 team ERA is currently 4th best in the majors. I saw a stat on Baseball Tonight over the weekend that said the best Team ERA position the Rockies have ever had is second worst
  18. thats my thoughts too. He is just too green. Although he dropped some beauty curveballs, just not consistantly Best of luck this weekend guys, it should be a fun series
  19. that was not a good weekend as for Garza, he looked all right, all the runs he gave up were 2 out runs. Too bad he couldnt get his feet wet against the Royals instead of the major leagues best hitting team
  20. ok, maybe it was his first 2 starts (60 and 80 pitches) I stand corrected
  21. Underrated player- Joe Crede. solid defense, solid hitter. doesnt get much recongition outside of White Sox fans
  22. Justin Morneau just became the first Twins hitter since 1987 (!!!) to have a 30 home run season he hit a 2 run jack off Zumaya to put the Twins ahead 4-3 in the 8th he is putting up a MVP-type season avg above .320 30 HR 101 RBI
  23. QUOTE(RME JICO @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 05:03 AM) He came out of the bullpen and started throwing 100+ pitches a game, so this should come as no surprise. Especially since he has never thrown this many pitches before, and didn't really get a chance to build up his pitch count. I wouldn't be surprised if Verlander starts to tail off as well, not necessarily with an injury, but with arm fatigue because of the number of innings pitched. He has almost pitched 150 innings this year. actually, after they moved Liriano from the pen to the rotation, he was on a pitch limit for the first 3 or 4 starts to strech out his arm
  24. its offical now http://www.startribune.com/509/story/602878.html either Bonser or Baker will take the roster spot
  25. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 8, 2006 -> 03:37 PM) I didn't look at their schedule, but this probably isn't right. Garza is essentially taking the place of the 5th starter, with Matt Smith being demoted to make room. He'll get the start Friday, I think, with the Twins delaying their decision on Liriano and who will ultimately replace him. From what I have read, this is the plan.
