  1. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 21, 2017 -> 07:34 PM) Horses***. Have you guys seen the new Vegas Knights jerseys? It's 115 in Vegas today, and I have a bit of chaffing going on. I walked in to a bike shop to get some chaffing cream the other day and my wife yells out MY HUSBAND NEEDS CHAFFING CREAM FOR HIS BALLS. I seriously think the ball is juiced right now. Homers are wayyyy up since like 2015. We should have traded Sale for Bellinger. Wouldn't you rather have Bellinger than Moncada right now? I suppose Bellinger doesn't speak Spanish though, so who knows if we would have gotten Robert. Who is better, Moncada and Robert, or Bellinger and Urias?
  2. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jun 21, 2017 -> 05:42 PM) Both are controlled 2 more years. One or both will be gone in 2020. It makes sense to play out the string with both. Jose and Avi are both the type that I feel would give the Sox a bit of a "home town discount" because this is where they found success, especially Jose. The Sox shouldn't be doing in long term deals until they know more how the rebuild is going, even if it ends up costing them a few more dollars to extend these guys come 2019 offseason.
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 21, 2017 -> 11:24 AM) How about we have a poll, do you want Jose Abreu to start at 1b for the White Sox in 2018/19, or do you prefer he DH for the overall good of a young/developing team? I mean, we'd be better off spending this whole offseason preparing Avi Garcia to play there, in all likelihood. Don't even need to make an acquisition. There is zero need to do jack s*** other than keeping trotting out Jose at 1B for the rest of the year and re-evaluate things come next February. If you have to have the talk with him about moving to DH for the good of the club then you do it. Acquiring veteran 1B is a pretty dumb thing to do in general, but it's even dumber when you are where the Sox are on the win curve. The Sox already have a number of good candidates to take over 1B. As soon as August we might even be seeing an IF with Yolmer at 3B (his arm looks strong enough now, that double play last night proved it imo), TA at short, with Moncada at 2B and Delmonico/Davidson/Abreu at 1B.
  4. After last night the Cubs and Sox are tied in wRC+ at 95. You gotta be bleeping me! Cubs position players are much better defenders but what the f*** were the odds on that occurring as late as 6/21 entering the year? About 1%? http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=...0&sort=16,d
  5. QUOTE (ypres @ Jun 21, 2017 -> 12:04 AM) sweet. thanks. All that said, on a good team, I think Greg may be right. Both have a classic utility guy profile if they can't hit much.
  6. QUOTE (ypres @ Jun 21, 2017 -> 12:50 AM) Are Sanchez and Leury for real? Or is this just luck? Both are toolsy guys finally putting it together. Although to be fair their best tool is by far defense, which is much more subtle. The nice thing is when you play a premium defensive position and play it well (Leury is +3 runs in CF, Yolmer +2.5 at 2B, both pass the eye test as well, granted Leury in a small sample in CF) you don' have to hit as much to be a solid starter. If they can slash 270/320/400 they are decent starters. Anything else is bonus. There are signs that the improvements with the bat are real for both, mostly due to making more contact.
  7. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 20, 2017 -> 11:45 PM) Pathetic. Looked like the last place team we are in that game. Bad pitching. Bad defense. Horrific hitting in the clutch when it mattered. And bad managing with the bunt that one inning when we were only down one. luckily, they play again tmr. I know it's hard to take a 3-4 year view, but try. These close losses will be wins if these guys keep developing and they can find a few pitchers. Sox have usually found pitching.
  8. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 20, 2017 -> 11:23 PM) I think he is enjoying having the best of both worlds....he gets Hawk, who knows the game, but he gets Jason as well, who isn't quite as serious all the time. This is probably as happy as he's been in a long time. yup
  9. QUOTE (maxjusttyped @ Jun 20, 2017 -> 11:22 PM) It's interesting that you say this because I've found Stone to be far more energized during the Benetti broadcasts. I think working with someone who's more willing to engage in conversations and actually has knowledge of other teams has brought the best out of Stone. yea I agree. I should have noted Stone usually isn't this enthusiastic with Hawk. Familiarity breeds contempt
  10. QUOTE (beautox @ Jun 20, 2017 -> 11:20 PM) nice knock by TA if he could keep this approach every night he could be something special. Maybe I'm just old but this team reminds somewhat of the early 90's sox. We actually have some talented young position players coming up. Pitching remains to be seen.
  11. You can here in Stone's voice that he enjoys talking to a guy that actually knows the game a bit. No offense to Jason, who bring a positive attitude and professional demeanor, but there's something to be said for having played imo.
  12. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 20, 2017 -> 11:16 PM) Serious question: How many more bad starts before you DL Holland or DFA him? He seems finished to me. he looked really bad tonight but the Sox aren't in a rush to DFA anybody given that they aren't in a rush to clear 40 man space or start service time clocks.
  13. Hawk is a good mood tonight if he could bring this effort more often I'd like him again.
  14. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 20, 2017 -> 11:05 PM) Oh, I just thought that was his permanent existence. Is there a time when he doesn't look that way? Occasionally. I was lucky enough to sit free (Amazon account friend of a friend) 6th row right behind home plate when the Sox played the Mariners here. He was in a nice groove, staying back on the ball, recognizing off speed stuff. He got the same curveball in that game and drove it oppo field gap for a double. That breaking ball, that Stone described as a "knee buckler" but that Hawk (and myself) immediately thought was a meat ball (and to be fair Stone's perspective is valid, but Hawk, and in my s*** career, we hit, not pitched) he would have hit 400 feet if he was in a groove. Instead he didn't even swing. Problem is Todd's "grooves" are getting shorter and shorter. Luckily he's still very good at 3B so he should have some trade value.
  15. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 20, 2017 -> 11:04 PM) EXCEPT NOT LIKE THAT, NOT EVER LIKE THAT see above.
  16. Todd Frazier when he's going bad almost looks like a 30 year old beer leaguer.
  17. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 20, 2017 -> 11:01 PM) I agree....what do we do? Man I have no idea. It's a good problem though. Maybe teach him 3B if his arm can handle it.
  18. My man crush on Yolmer is fully activated. You guys know I've always been a huge fan. He's always had the glove, now the bat is coming around like it usually did when he had enough experience in the minors.
