QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Mar 29, 2016 -> 02:29 PM) Being a homer is fine - whenever I tend to call sporting events I end up having a bit of a homer-ish tone to my announcing. The problem is you can't be homerish to the point of being wrong half the time, which is what Hawk has become. Exactly. He's an embarrassment and is actively hurting the marketing and branding of White Sox baseball. In his prime he was an asset to the org as a distinct voice but now he's just an old, easily confused, often wrong voice. And a loud one at that.

Spring Training Stock Report, Week 4
chitownsportsfan replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Giving Davidson a spot on the 25 man roster because of a hot spring would be stupid as all hell. Especially as you'd be asking him to play 2-3 times a week at absolute most. No, if he's really "figured something out" then you ask him to go down to Charlotte and play everyday for a couple months and yea if he's slashing 280/340/500 down there in June then you think about calling him up. -
QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Mar 29, 2016 -> 12:33 AM) Not worth losing Stone over. Hawk's input is irrelevant, out of date, or dead wrong. Stone can basically sit there and call pitches. It's high time Hawk retires. No kidding. I repeat myself constantly on this: Hawk is a legend but nobody benefits, not the Sox, not Hawk, and most certainly not the listener, from hearing his semi-senile calls in 2016. He should have been canned after 2012 and this is coming from a kid who fell asleep to Hawk called games on WGN and Satellite in the early 90s almost ever night.

QUOTE (Doc Edwards Shot @ Mar 28, 2016 -> 04:28 PM) I'm totally OK with the late games on the west coast. My kids are in bed and I have the TV all to myself. Plus, the weather will actually be good vs. having the first games here in Illinois where it could still be snowing. They should do this every year with the MLB scheduling. Yep it's going to be really nice. Seattle is forecast for mid 60s (massive high pressure system swirling off shore) so the Bay Area should be about the same, maybe slightly warmer, with plenty of sun. Forecast for Monday in the bay is high 60s and partly cloudy. Sounds about right.

Yes, he'd be a great backup at DH and 1B. At the league min it's a no brainer over Ishikawa or Sands or Shuck. edit: Eh I dunno, on second thought he's probably not enough of an upgrade to take on his s*** personality. Screw it. Got on base last year at an OK clip but power has absolutely cratered. If he just got cut probably means his health is an issue again.

Perfect for me! The real victory though is that the opener isn't followed by an off day, for once.

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Mar 27, 2016 -> 06:13 PM) +1, not hitting the panic button yet. Latos' goal in spring training is to just build arm strength and maintain his knee. So far he's managed that. Results really don't matter at all for him. Yea if he sucks in April you are sorta f***ed but until then it's not time to panic. 5th starters are 5th starters.

QUOTE (Baron @ Mar 25, 2016 -> 06:20 PM) Say goodbye to Turner How much money did they give him again?

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 25, 2016 -> 04:39 PM) For those who have seen both Melky and Eaton play right, how did they look? Who would you say should be the primary LF and primary RF on opening day? There's more foul ground and room out in LF at the Cell no? If so, then you put Eaton there as his range, even with his bad jumps, is way better than Melky's.
-
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Mar 25, 2016 -> 04:10 PM) Fangraphs projections have the four collectively at 5 WAR, I think it's fairly reasonable. The guys they are replacing were collectively worth -0.1 WAR last year, so that'd be a big upgrade. Well there ya go. Let's hope we actually have some guys live up to their projections for once.

QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Mar 25, 2016 -> 02:28 PM) Boy oh boy, we are going to need quite a few fellas turning their performances around from a year ago if we are going to have any chance of competing for anything this season. A lot of "big if's" in this lineup. Yikes. Yea but they are replacing Alexei, Flowers and and one of Melky/Avi wrt to Jackson. Not exactly big shoes to fill. If the Sox can get 4-5 WAR combined from Rollins, Jackson and Avila/Navarro I think they will take it and it will go a long way towards getting to 86-88 wins.

Fulmer "putting himself on the radar"

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Mar 24, 2016 -> 07:03 PM) Rodon has the Sale ceiling IMO. I agree. Rodon's stuff is just as good as Sale's. Doesn't mean he's going to turn into a workhorse Chris Sale but he has a chance. -
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Mar 24, 2016 -> 05:58 PM) Holy s***, who is the catcher right now? Still Avila? That's a horrible attempt at a rundown. lmao. The need Drake back so he can be the pickle man in practice obviously.

QUOTE (knightni @ Mar 24, 2016 -> 01:27 PM) "Hi there, I'm Adam Laroche. I gave up $13 million because I believed in Family First . You know that if I gave up money like that for family, then you know that I'm going to give you a great deal on meat. So, come on down and bring the kids!" #familyfirst just make sure I get all the rib meat.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Mar 24, 2016 -> 10:53 AM) All you need to know about how LaRoche has been fanning the flames is a Pittsburgh sports writer was the one to break the news first. LaRoche has played this as well as he can. His #familyfirst promotion for his company is just the latest self promotion.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Mar 23, 2016 -> 08:41 PM) Me. Don't want any part of Bruce. I'd take him if the price is just Johnson, if he sucks he's gone next year, if he performs maybe you think about picking up his option (13 million for '17) or getting a new deal done. There's a non zero (I'd hazard 1/5) chance he pulls an Adam Dunn and can no longer even hit for .200 in a tougher league but if that happens you just bench him for other options. Price is way more than just Johnson though. Sox would have to include a legit C+ / B- type prospect IMO -- especially if the Reds are paying some freight. Guys like Johnson are a dime a dozen this time of year I'd suspect most orgs have a 5/6 starter type on the 40 man as well they'd offer the Reds for Bruce.

QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Mar 23, 2016 -> 08:05 PM) I still think Ventura should have been canned last season. You know damn well this does not blow up to this level with a manager on the same level as a Maddon, Bochy, or Shoewalter. The players may "respect" Robin, but there's not a doubt in my mind he has zero control over that clubhouse. Def agree with that. I also agree that Adam Eaton needs to pull his f***ing head out of his ass and produce on the field in April this year or or he's going to go from fan fav to fan target, if he hasn't already. His awful start last year was a big part of the overall slow start and it took him what, until mid August to get his slash line back to respectable? Eaton is a good player (most of the time) but this incident is bringing back his D-Backs past right to the forefront again. He does not seem to be a good team player when things aren't going his way. Anybody can be content during the good times.

Sox like where Davidson is headed

QUOTE (shipps @ Mar 23, 2016 -> 02:15 PM) Where is Josh Fields now a days? I dunno but Lance Broadway has apparently transitioned to a fairly successful film career. Some people got all the genetic luck. Not only did he have a helluva arm he also looks like a Norse God in his IMDB photos. -
Sox like where Davidson is headed

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Mar 23, 2016 -> 01:15 PM) I really liked the limited bit I saw of Davidson in person at spring training. Much more compact stroke. No idea if it will hold up, but it looked night and day from the Davidson I had seen over the past few years. I also should point out, he was clearly putting in work (spent a ton of time in the cages with one of the coaches and I wondered off and came back and he was still in the same spot while everyone else was long gone). Thanks for those tidbits. He's probably realized that his MLB career is flashing in front of his eyes and will be gone with another mediocre (hard to even call last year mediocre honestly) year in AAA. He either shortens that stroke and hits for more average or he's a career AAAA guy. How's his defense looking? I'm guessing it's Gillaspie like in that it's passable when he's hitting but if he's not you can't deal. -
Well, on the field the Sox seem to be having a good spring. Go figure.

Spring Training Stock Report - Week Three
chitownsportsfan replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Feel bad for Sanchez is he's the guy to go down. He deserves a MLB role. -
Adam Eaton saying he was afraid to bring his dad today is some of the dumbest s*** I have ever heard. Either Eaton is the rat and is being too clever by half or he's a f***ing moron. Either way, he better produce on the field.

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Mar 18, 2016 -> 11:32 PM) Dude, that's how the media rolls. Everytime they get something remotely contoversial to talk about it they do it until no one cares anymore. KW did the right thing. The Sox don't need a 14 yo kid in the clubhouse everyday. KW had a few guys come to him (or RV or RH) who then went to KW. I can guarantee you that this was all discussed prior to approaching AL. Everything looks like a clusterf***, but I doubt that it really is. In fact, if CS kept his yapper shut, no one would be talking about this anymore. KW did the right thing - and in turn, got the Sox 1/11 of their payroll space back. The man should be getting commended not crucified. Sale needs to shut up and pitch - and that is coming from one of his biggest fans that has maybe missed 5 starts in his career. Good post, put this s*** to bed. At this point, don't matter who did what to whom, just stop giving the media more talking points. Sale especially as the biggest local and national star has to shut his yap and get back to baseball. I get the feeling Chris thinks he's doing some service to Adam but he's too whatever to realize he's also doing a dis-service to the guys now actually on his team.
-
QUOTE (Real @ Mar 18, 2016 -> 08:53 PM) I know lol, it's hilarious how everyone admits that KW was in the wrong here, and yet fires shots at Chris for doing what we all want a leader to do But when Chris does it, he's a tempermental teenager. huh? What leadership has Chris Sale shown here? He's shown zero leadership. A true leader would have gathered the guys in the clubhouse and because he's the leader they would all have fallen in line behind him. That isn't what happened, at all.

QUOTE (shysocks @ Mar 18, 2016 -> 05:02 PM) Robin's comment was tongue-in-cheek. I think it's worse. I think he was tired of baseball, he was hurting, he was coming off a bad year, and this was the tipping point. People will remember that he retired because they asked him to bring his kid around less but it was more likely a bunch of factors, most involving him no longer being good at baseball. Hahn and LaRoche and Drake met in a smoke filled room last week and this is the plan they came up with.
