QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 18, 2014 -> 12:04 PM) I think Rock is probably right that they suspected he'd need some time off to deal with this. I also think that, if they knew that, then putting him back out there every day and watching him get worse and struggle more was lunacy. Here is the inescapable conclusion from those assumptions, and it leads to only one thing -- someone getting fired. 1) They knew he'd need a DL trip 2) They knew he has an injury that only gets better with rest If those two things are both true, and they continued to play him, then guess what -- someone should get fired. I choose to believe the much simpler explanation that doesn't involve smoke and mirrors, just good old regular incompetence -- Jose talked his way into the lineup -- something that should never happen.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 18, 2014 -> 12:03 PM) They've known for quite some time he would have to take a DL stint for the ankle. You don't have to buy anything but it's the truth. Not everyone pays attention to the truth. Continue to LOL, how old are you 12? You sound like a 9/11 truther bro, no offense. I won't post anymore because it's obvious you aren't listening to reason. PRIMA FACIE what evidence do you see for your grand DL plan? On the surface, I see nothing, in fact what I see is bungled management by Robin in letting a player beg his way into the lineup and then aggravated the ankle. As I said, tendionus is from over-use. You think playing in every damn game helped? You are seriously off the deep end here they were planning a DL trip for a guy that continued to play every day with an injury that only gets better with rest? Well if that is true then everyone involved should be fired on the spot for incompetence. If what you are saying is true then why the f*** was he not on DL for the interleague series'? Your theory makes zero sense man, so now they get to lose Jose against much tougher competition so he could play ineffectively against worse teams? Come on, think.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 18, 2014 -> 11:36 AM) That had nothing to do with it. I mentioned an upcoming DL stint for him a week ago. See my post in the Abreu thread, you have to believe in a pretty awesome acting job and conspiracy by everyone involved to believe that. Jose was seen my multiple media members visibly distraught post game. That doesn't sound like a guy that was told he'd be going on the DL far in advance. People need to put down the Schneider cool aid, it's affecting common sense badly.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ May 18, 2014 -> 11:49 AM) So they've been planning a DL trip for weeks but kept on playing him? Not buying that. It's absurd on the face and I can't believe anyone is seriously gullible enough to believe that. How strong is the Herm Scheinder cool aid around here? As observers, this is what we have as the timeline: Spring Training -- Abreu battles ankle soreness in same ankle, club and player downplay it as "usual soreness" May 8th, Cubs -- Abreu "tweaks ankle" after the game Robin says he'll DH until it's better. ~May 12 -- Ankle isn't getting any better from the eye test (obviously hobbling badly down the line) Robin tells media the upcoming off game will "be a great time to get him two days off in a row" Present -- Robin does not give Jose any off days, ankle continues to deteriorate to the eye -- now he's hobbling badly after every swing. Gets so bad he's pulled for Konerko in a close game. Abreu goes on DL after game and is visibly upset post game as media has him sitting for around 15 minutes looking distraught at his locker post game. You tell me Rock, this is just some vast incredibly well thought out plan of action because it seems to me like a clusterf***.

Pretty obvious Ventura handled this the wrong way. Guess what causes Tendinitus? Over use. Abreu had played in every game coming into this series and he should have had two off days in a row, instead he's now on the 15 day dl. You guys can continue to defend Robin and talk about all the great work Chicago has done keeping guys healthy but guess what -- have you watched the last two seasons? It's not exactly like we are keeping guys healthy anymore.

I caught parts of the game, seemed like Quintana pitched well, although once again struggled with economy of pitches. Abreu should have had the nite off, awful mistake from Ventura, again. And no, I'm not just doing this in 20/20 hindsight Robin told the media he'd have an off day and then didn't give it. Since when do the players run the clubhouse? And to confirm what most people already knew -- yep, Jose could have used the day off on a day the Sox were playing a bad team with a favorable pitching matchup. It's not a huge deal in isolation, but it's the pattern of mis steps that bothers me.

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ May 16, 2014 -> 08:43 PM) Just shows how hard it is to find/develop a top SS. The reason not to be so eager to trade Ramirez. A player in A ball isn't a reason for anything to be done or not done at the MLB level. If some team wants to overpay for Ramirez you let them.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 16, 2014 -> 09:08 PM) Hope we're not back to "tip your cap" time again with the offense. At least Abreu and Eaton provide hope/spark. They really need Eaton back. It makes a huge difference having him on base 1-3 times a game for the middle of the order. Beckham and company just aren't cutting it. I'd really like to see against RHP Eaton, Conor, Jose, Dunn, Viciedo, Ramirez. that's a pretty damn good top 5.

QUOTE (flavum @ May 16, 2014 -> 08:57 PM) Hard to believe Flowers is still at .310. He'll be at .255 by the break. The only guy that will be lucky to sniff 300 out of that trio is probably Viciedo, if he keeps up his new found approach. Ramirez will finish around 270-280 and Flowers, yea, he'll be at .255. Flowers' little BABIP hot streak probably saved his career as a starter IMO. He'll finish the year around 255/300/380 and he'll have another year as the starting catcher in Chicago.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 16, 2014 -> 04:59 PM) Anything is possible, and yes. The MLB draft really is so much of a crapshoot that the team could easily have a scout or two saying "for the love of god don't take this guy" and go somewhere else. It might well even work. Yea but there is a very clear top 3 this year and the Sox (imo) would be foolish not to draft Aiken or Krolek because they are high school arms. These are guys that are at the top of what is widely regarded as a pretty good draft for a reason. Krolek, under the Sox' tutelage, could be ready in '17 -- by then the Sox should be well back to competing if Hahn continues his work and they can work him in slowly without him being "the savior".

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 16, 2014 -> 05:06 PM) I can agree with this. I also would respect a manager who is willing to tell him no. Yea I'm a little confused. Robin tells the media he's going to get a day off then he doesn't get a day off. I don't care either way but you can't say something publicly then not do it, that's just bad for everyone. Either keep it in the clubhouse or do what you say you're going to do. As for Jose, he's the man, that simple.

QUOTE (Knuckles @ May 16, 2014 -> 01:35 PM) So game got rained out Yep, can't catch a break with these injuries, now him and Sale are both set back another day.
