Sox vs Royals
LOL, Ramirez can backpedal faster than Viciedo can come on.
-
Sox vs Royals
and that in a nutshell is why Conor Gillaspie is a productive MLB hitter and Dayan Viciedo is not.

Sox vs Royals
We look like a HS team this inning. That ball has to go home and get cut. Lucky he wasn't running. edit: hey, defense!

WTF are you doing Alexei? Who cares if the runner is on 3rd with 2 outs?

Sox vs Royals
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 08:52 PM) Hitters 4-8 in Sox line-up at .238 or lower. OUCH. Take away Abreu and Eaton, and we might be even worse than 2013 offensively. Beckham now in the 220's for the first time all season, and Viciedo in the 230's. Time to cut bait on both. Don't care what the return is as long as it clears two roster spots for next year.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 08:42 PM) With two righthanded players basically gone from line up and a four man bench, your options are pretty limited. I never really thought Konerko wasting a roster spot would bother me. Turns out it really is. Sox are 5 back of the WC every AB counts. It might just be smoke and mirrors and hope but eh.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 08:27 PM) ah ... that makes sense then. Well that makes sense but there is no explaining away having Conor bat 3rd. I'm all for giving Jose more days off; Just doesn't make sense to do it against a soft tossing LHP unless he's feeling under the weather.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 08:23 PM) Seems a shame Jose can't play against the soft tosser. I've given up trying to explain RV. Why in the f*** would a dude with a 45 wRC+ against LHP be your 3rd hitter? Why would you sit Jose and not Dunn today? Why couldn't you just not play Kong at all? I give up.
-
Sox vs Royals
Come on, no Jose? Why couldn't he just DH and let Konerko stay on the bench. Ostensibly Kong is good against LHP, in reality he's awful. and Gillaspie batting 3rd against LHP, jesus.

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 08:16 PM) When Carroll is throwing strikes and his sinker is moving like that he is a solid pitcher Help to face the Royals, but yea, his sinker looks nasty so far.
-
Sox vs Royals
Oh boy, the Carroll / Nieto battery might make for a very long night. Nieto isn't very good at framing or blocking atm. damn that was a nice sinker.
-
Sox vs Royals
Going from Sale to Carroll is like going from DI to DIII.
-
Sox vs Royals
The future of Scott Carroll is in baseball, just not on a 25 man roster.

2nd half predictions thread
QUOTE (TRU @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 03:27 PM) Yes, Im sure there are plenty of people who never played sports and arm chair GM safely from their computer. I would not be one of those people. Im well aware of how demanding baseball is, and its not very much. Yes, have you ever played baseball and football at the same time during the summer in Texas? Probably not. You have now idea what you're talking about. I played college baseball, granted at a very low level, and with 4 games a week plus practicing every day you sure as s*** get fatigued. Your hammy gets tight, your shoulder is pinched, that huge strawberry on your thigh keep getting banged up every time you slide, your fingers are all bruised... Trust me, at the end of the season your body is tired and ready for a break. I'm not saying it's like the NBA or NFL, but after 5+ months of 162 games, playing every day, that's fatiguing. Look at Adam Eaton's quotes, this is a guy in the pinnacle of fitness, a highly tuned athlete, granted a shorter one, and he said he's "legs felt like s***" at the end of April. Playing every day is fatiguing. And also, your body doesn't recovery as fast at 27-32 as when you're 16-25. That's just reality. My body, after workouts and activity (I'm 31) takes almost twice as long to recover as when I was 25 or 18.

Yanks on Danks
QUOTE (scs787 @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 03:10 PM) I really think they could realistic get Shields while also keeping Danks. Sale-Shields-Q-Noesi-Danks.....Let Rodon chill in the minors for a bit then trade Noesi/DAnks.....Longer they keep Danks the more baluable he becomes, assuming he's still throwing QS over 50% of the time. Hector Noesi is a better pitcher than post surgery John Danks. He's also magnitudes of order cheaper. If you trade one of them, you try and dump Danks to an (apparently) desperate Yankees Team. I can see Gordon + Danks to NYY for cash and a couple C prospects. Anyone expecting more needs to reset their expectations, these are 1 WAR types we are trading.

2nd half predictions thread
QUOTE (TRU @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 12:45 PM) People really think Abreu is only going to hit 9 or 10 more HRs the rest of the way It wouldn't surprise me. I think he finishes with around 40, maybe 42,43, but I expect his average to continue to rise, maybe even getting up to 310 by the end of the year. I will totally trade some slugging for a higher OBP. I think Jose finishes 300/355/590. A helluva year and a wRC+ of around 160 from that line and around 5 fWAR. Not bad, not bad at all, a true star player.

2nd half predictions thread
Haven't seen much Eaton hype, even though he's now up to a 284/355/384 line and credited with 1.4 fWAR. Basically he's on pace for a 2 or 2.5 fWAR season. He seems as healthy as he has been since spring so I'm going to go ahead and predict he finishes 290/360/380 and plays in the remaining 45 or so games to finish the year with 125 games played, which isn't quite ideal but would be encouraging for a player that is young and had injury problems. Of course I now just jinxed him and he'll go on the DL tmr with a srained hammy. What a steal it was getting him from ARI, he is going to be making league min for a few more years and he'll probably produce around 8-12 WAR during that time.

eaton quietly up to a .355 OBP, the little bugger has some talent.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 08:21 PM) Watch the game. Saw the play, maybe try and pull the ball for once instead of going up the middle when the hit and run is on. I blame Robin more though, never really like the hit and run at the MLB level.

QUOTE (1dog @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 09:03 PM) Anything from Hawk about Wegner's handling of Sale's beanball against Valencia? He didn't react like this at least. I am stuck with the Royals broadcast. He just said that Sale knew what he had to do and that he's not afraid to send a message. Pretty tame by Hawk standards.

Sox officially sign Rodon
QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 08:53 PM) I remember all the butt hurt from the Sox trading Young instead of Anderson, but Young is a nothing Yea, Young was "at worst" a 250/340/480 type that would patrol CF for the next decade. He started well with ARI but his career has totally fizzled out, nothing more than a 4th OF at this point.

Man, Hawk can't even admit that Gordo has scuffled pretty much his entire career.
