Does Luis Robert? We'll need a trout like 10 WAR from him just to get within shouting distance of .500. So if Robert plays 150 games, hits 290/340/550 and puts up 8 WAR he'll TWTW us to 78 wins. With the way things are now with SP innings, he could make 20 starts before they shut him down in August and pitch 80 innings. I'm fine with the plan as long as Crochet is. We have very little to lose as a team and if the player has given his blessing, go for it.

This feels like a White Sox Hahn move. 100%. Paying for at best 2 WAR with a decent chance of replacement level. The opportunity cost is as much of a problem as the actual player they signed. You're just severely limiting yourself trying to boost your team this way late in the offseason. It's almost always better just to promote some 40 man guy that can "play" DH and hit 250/300/480. At least then if you want to move on from him it won't cost you any money, whereas if Soler starts slow you've got 40 million in dead money (and a dead roster spot) just hanging around.

Yea I've gotten the same vibe. Good summary. It's fairly obvious that Getz' team building tactics are very different than Hahn's. Getz puts much more importance on the edges of the roster and looks to create value in building that depth on the squad at every level. A lot of the moves he's made so far are stuff that were if we ever do hit on some superstars again, winning with them will be much more sustainable as the 2 WAR 2B or RF or C will be somewhere around, and won't require an overpay in FA necessarily. I've said it a few times, so far so good with his strategy. Importantly he took one look at this roster and said "rebuild". Hahn would have sold JR on "retool".

a little off topic but I just turned 40 and my buddy is about to in a month and I was trying to tell him that if he works out and keeps himself in shape he'll feel about the same new as he did at 30. Yea you got sore easier and your joints are more worn but my workouts are still about the same as they were 10 years ago. Yea it would be nice to be 25 again, but 40 is not like some magical cliff that you just topple down physically. People need to realize that with weight training, the right supplements (not talking T, just creatine and some others) you can maintain strong physical fitness well into middle age and beyond.

That will last about a month, at most. By the middle of May almost all of us will be sick and tired of this team, especially given that they can't tank for a draft pick.

Vibe is a bit different in the Bronx but yea similar. I'm not sure the Sox have that kind of cache but it wouldn't hurt to try and build it up organically, slowly, over time. Having that public transit close is key, as people will still be around on days the games aren't and will stop and grab a beer or something on the way somewhere else and talk to their bartender about the team or whatever.

If the Sox could recreate something like the neighborhood around Yankee Stadium that would be amazing. Not so much "tail gating" as just a massive bar and vendor scene centered around the park.

I think the Sox won in the sense that others have talked about. That said, it's easy to tear down a club with no expectations of winning and win trades on paper. Hahn was good at it as well. It's much harder to build and sustain a winning club. I guess we can be thankful that Getz is at least managing the tear down well.

This is all true, but if my aunt had balls she'd be my uncle, that's true too. I hope Gonzo gets hotter than s%*#, but right now, he looks like a bust. We can say that.

There's many things I'd say about Jason's play by play but bad puns are much worse than ketchup only hamburgers.

We'll see over the course of a season but in the few minutes I watched of that he let the game breath a bit more than Jason and I like that. You can't call a full season of home town baseball like you're on a national Sunday broadcast. Doesn't work.
