Of course, which really doesn't have much to do with playing baseball in AZ under strict quarantine and testing. My point wasn't so much that "oh it's all fine now" so much as that if people were dying in the streets, morgues were literally overfilled with bodies and throwing bodies bags into the semis to be buried en masse in central park -- you're going to have a hard time with the optics of baseball and sports and recreation in general. But if the virus is mostly contained in the big cities, death is there but not overwhelming -- you can play sports in that environment.

There will be baseball by July. Book it. NY is stabilizing. WA and CA are already likely on the downside of the curve thanks to the soft lockdowns that were started fairly early. In WA's case very early. They can play all the games in AZ, that makes a lot of sense imo. You cut out 90% of the logistical problems then wrt to the virus and safety.

dude you said one of the dumbest fucking things I've ever read. Honestly the responses were tepid. You basically just described a fever dream you had about the virus and its "cure" to an audience of fairly well read and smart people and got called the fuck out. Don't post absolute non sense and you won't have people "attacking" you. This virus mostly attacks by binding to cells in your lungs and fucking up the semi-permeable membranes that allow them to resupply your arteries with O2. Apparently it has a very interesting protein structure that allows it to bind to cells in the lungs much more efficiency than most coronaviruses, hence why it's more deadly. Hence "novel coronavirus". There is no miracle cure here like go on Twitter and just read the Doctor threads. Millions of doctors are in real time trying to figure out treatments and it's not as easy as saying "it attacks hemoglobin". I mean that's like saying the key to the game will be to outscore the other team.

dunning kruger, yikes.

the shitty anti-virals are at best as good as placebo and come with a chance if kidney failure and blindness. Like, listen to people that have had malaria. You don't want to be taking hydroxochloroquine unless you're about to die otherwise.

We'll be going from 15 down to zero anyways.

Was never a big fan of his pairing with DJ but Ed will be missed. Listening to Rooney and Ed in the mid aughts was about as pure as it got for baseball on the radio.

Things that don't spread the virus: CNN Things that do: Trump's ineptitude.

Agreeing with you quite a bit lately. The market is just batshit irrational and always has been. There isn't going to be any quick recovery.

Interesting, is that a terminal for oil sands and shale "heavy crude"? One thing I remember from San Padre is that the sun was at like a 70 degree angle around noon in March. It's pretty god damn south down there. With oil crashing like it is might be the death knell for a lot of US projects, refineries, terminals and otherwise.

Yea we did the bottom legs of the "Texas triangle" drive. We started in Houston, went to Galveston and then went to SA before Austin. Just drove through SA briefly. A very unique and beautiful part of the country.

30% unemployment is a crisis. If you're 65 you likely served in Vietnam, so thanks for your service. But do you know that more people will likely die in this virus than all US losses in Vietnam? By a factor of 2-3 even? This is much worse than the fake ass crisis in Vietnam, with the now discredited domino theory of Soviet expansion. I mean, my mom is 66, this is the worst thing she says that's ever happened, not even close. This is the worst crisis since WWII, that is more than fair to say.

You live around there? Interesting place. Man. About 10 years ago, back when I was still a young pup in my mid 20s we did an epic SXSW and beach trip that included spending two nights on South Padre on the national shoreline. I'll never forget we were listening to the NCAA Tourney on the beach and drinking some of the cheapest handles of liquor known to man. What a stunning place. It's too bad about the petro industry down there tho. Dirty. I don't mind the rigs but just the amount of tar and shit on the beach was unacceptable imo.

Sounds obvious but try corner stores, bulk discount stores and pharmacies for paper goods and sanitizer and cleaning goods. Also Amazon has plenty, although prime shipping is now 3-4 days instead of 1-3 in most locations.

Yea I'd imagine in most exurban and suburban settings things are already restocked. My experience is simply within the Seattle metro area, which is probably unique for quite a few reasons. Not the least is that the Nordic base culture here is close to the "don't bring shame to yourself" attitude that helps Japan and other Eastern societies controlling the virus. People here are fairly communal, for better and worse. In these times it's for the better.

Give it two weeks. Then everybody will have so much god damn TP in their basement they won't need any for a year. We had the first death last day of February. Peak store panic was probably week of March 14-21st. Stores were back stocked normally by about March 25th or so. Every corner store here has "1 per customer" limit on hand sanitizer but you can find it easily.

Eh, I wouldn't worry about food so much as paying rent and other bills. I can tell you that from experience in Seattle the first two weeks saw all the hoarding. We are so far past that now (onto week 5 now) the stores are flush with TP and chicken thighs and all that again. It's just that NOBODY is operating a business. If you are, like myself, you're doing it with extreme caution, with reduced hours, at about 50% volume and have furloughed or just laid off your workers. This is a unique crisis and fortunately many Americans are taking it more seriously than the POTUS. But I wouldn't worry about food as much as jobs.
