  1. One thing that could work in any team trading with the mets (beyond the fact that well, they are the mets) is that I'd imagine any new owner will want a low payroll and a complete rebuild. If the Wilpons pressure the GM to get it done, hey, take advantage. Sounds like the Mets are a complete mess right now. Their GM talking about Manfred on the video they accidentally put out had me cracking up but the Wilpons didn't find it funny.
  2. Man I dunno. That's the sorta move I'd much rather make at the end of the contention window then the start. As I've said I don't really think it's a time to push all the chips into the table. Stay flexible and make a team come to you, not the other way around.
  3. Way too many ground balls from a guy that is for now strictly a corner OF. I'm not trying to come across like I hate the guy or anything it's just that when you're a contender and have a deep 40 man like the Sox finally do these sort of guys sometimes have to be just cut loose. If he turns out good it's the price the Sox pay for being good. Kinda is what it is.
  4. He can't play a cromulent CF from almost every report. That means he'll never be a "damn good" 4th OF. At best he's a AAAA type unless he radically changes his batted ball profile. It can happen, but it's unlikely. I'm just glad the Sox aren't in a position like the Giants where a player like Basabe is ANYWHERE near the MLB roster.
  5. In the words of the great Lloyd Carr: I like'em both.
  6. He's been a little lucky on some of his HRs but they are playing with a juiced ball at the Cell in August. Ride him until it's obvious he's lost it. There's zero reason to prefer Madrigal imo.
  7. Mendick is doing a helluva fucking job at the plate and in the field. He's saved runs and he's created them. There's no reason to shit on the guy and frankly there's zero reason to think Madigral is a refined product capable of performing above Mendick. That was evident on his boneheaded decision to try and take 3rd.
  8. There's really nothing in Mendick's performance so far that's flukey. The defensive WAR is going to vary in such a small sample but the batting profile stabilizes quicker and he's only rocking a 290 BABIP. FWIW ZIPS thinks he's essentially a league average hitter (wRC+ 99) ROS. Mendick from all appearances is a league average 2B at the moment. True talent level does go up and down (one of the lessons of the MVP Machine) but right now I feel fairly confident in pinning Mendick at league average starting 2B.
  9. Around 2.5 on fWAR but regardless he's been a very solid regular so far.
  10. Frankly right now it's Mendick's job to lose. If Moncada is feeling healthier Madrigal might have to ride the bench until Mendick's pixie dust wears off, and hopefully it doesn't.
  11. It's really too bad what they've done with Collins. They have reduced his value in trades and wasted quite a bit of development time. I guess it's the sign of a good team when interesting players don't have a spot, but still, it's been wasteful.
  12. Cool, it will be nice to throw out an elite defensive OF late in games and get Eloy out of there.
  13. Vlad Jr and the Blue Jays are the most over rated player and team in MLB respectively. What a joke. .1 WAR for truffle shuffle dude and the Blue Jays thoroughly mediocre. East coast bias (Toronto counts) is still quite prevalent. Watching MLB network and this shit is so over the top on the Blue Jays.
  14. Man being good has some of guys in a daze. There is huge downside risk to any trades this year relative to upside. Sure you have to give to get but the pot odds are not there right now for an all in move. Standing pat is just fine. There are more hands to play in this contention window, years worth.
  15. This is a powerful moment. I selfishly want them to play. If they don't I stand with them however. I get the feeling with leaders like TA, Gio and Jose they will take a day. That's OK. Sports are the reward for a functioning society...
  16. It was a reach pick but I don't really remember who else was available. I just remember watching his scouting tape at 3rd and thinking this dude is nothing but a 1B/LF type at best. The comp was Schwarber, which didn't excite me. Anyways, it might have been Burger who convinced the Sox to change their draft strategy and go for more variance and upside. Too often the "safe" pick in the draft isn't really that safe it turns out.
  17. Yea that's a good point about Manfred. It's just unlikely to happen for various reasons even though on paper it would be a great fit human factors are going against it.
  18. You think knowing everything about Bauer that we do that if he signed here he wouldn't have already cleared the air with Cooper? He's unlikely to sign here for various reasons but if he does, the Sox will already have a plan he can live with, including the dollars on his checks.
  19. Nothing will ever beat Hawk and Wimpy in their prime but Jason and Stone this year have been good. Jason, god bless him, finally has realized he can let the game speak for itself at times. He's learned that he doesn't have to pepper stone with a million questions to fill the air -- some of that is no doubt just having a fun entertaining club, but Jason has improved.
  20. I dunno are they having the AFL this year? How about Dominican league? Really just depends. He's getting reps at Shaumburg but if he can get 200+ more PA in real games this fall and winter he's not going to need many more in the high minors before he's ready. He certainly looked ready this spring before COVID hit. He's got one of those swings that just plays against all levels of competition. He's as direct to the ball as any Sox hitter in recent memory: there's no wasted movement in his giddy up.
  21. Sober up buddy he's fine.
  22. Sox have best RD in AL and 2nd in baseball after LA. They lead baseball in WAR. Is this real life?
