Why WAR is stupid for Closers, especially for Colome
A better way to evaluate relievers in general is probably WPA. A guy coming in with a 4-1 lead in the 9th should be closing that game out with a win 95% or so of the time just based on historical averages. So over the course of a season if a reliever has a negative WPA they probably blew a bunch of games late. Just to piggyback on @Eminor3rd WAR is a CUMULATIVE stat. In this way it is similar to runs scored, runs batted in, stolen bases and so on. It's NOT a rate stat like slash line or wRC+. If a closer is only pitching 70 innings he isn't going to have a chance to accumulate WAR like a SP. That's why some prefer WPA or something like FIP (fielding independent pitching) metrics that attempt to parse out bad luck and bad fielding from a pitcher's ERA.

Sox Interested in Marco Gonzales
Judging by what Stroman returned Marco could be had for a B- guy and a C+ type, maybe two of the latter. That would be what, guys like 8-20 in our org that aren't walking wounded at the moment? I think the time is right to strike as it's a total buyer's market. There just aren't enough clubs contending to have a run on SP trades.

Sox interested in Edwin Diaz
I think he has a high upside but he's going on about 4 years now of injury or working through an injury. He feels like a guy that might break out in 2023 or so like Quentin around age 26-28 and then goes back to being injured all the time by the time he's 31. We're at the point where they're going to have to make some decisions on keepers and tossers in the MiLB system. I don't mind trading guys like Micker for proven MLB talents like Diaz. That said, I doubt the Sox give up anybody in their top 20 this deadline for a closer. Even if the back end of that list isn't that exciting it doesn't make much sense to trade for a closer when you really don't even know what your offseason is going to look like.

Sox interested in Edwin Diaz
I'd pass personally. Closer can be filled at any time when the team is actually good. Unless the Mets are infatuated with someone like Micker and are highly motivated I don't see how it makes sense the Mets will want too much.

The fragility of some fans on this board recently...
lol. shine that turd white sox. I'm glad the Sox are paying Rickie to bunt and think about the kids. whatever, enjoy the rest of summer would be my advice. check in on the box scores and futuresox or here if a trade goes down. it's almost CFB season anyways. @Look at Ray Ray Run the album is lit, listened to it a couple times all the way through backpacking this weekend. I like how he took a bunch of different styles for the production and for the most part made it work. There' a couple stinkers but tracks like hot shower, slide around and let's go on the run are new bangers for this summer. Was glad to have them out on the trail.

yea this album is pretty good I'm digging the nicki track and the guy that sounds like a bootleg young thug. the kanye style gospel inspired tracks are bit generic for my taste but solid album. I'm still saying 2018 the earl sweatshirt album is the best I've heard in the last few years.

I'm a few minutes in and liking the first track as a summer banger but hoping he's got some more different beats coming up on it. Oh god Ben Gibbard is on this 2nd track lol. I think this one might be a bit too sacharine for me. Hopefully he's got some harder hitting stuff on the album.

good looking out I'm older now and don't keep on album releases like I used to. Didn't have any clue Chance was dropping a new one today. Listening now.

You don't want to mess around with nerve damage. Antonio Bass at Michigan about 20 years ago had what was almost surely a long career in pro FB cut short by nerve damage after a knee injury. Thankfully things are a lot safer now and more understood.

I hadn't thought that before but now that you say it makes a lot of sense. "oh it's just the ball". Turns out it was fancy new PEDs including some of that shit the Russians developed to arrest muscle loss in season for their Olympic athletes.

Yikes. I'm looking at the Twins roster, see "Jorge Polanco" has 3.4 fWAR and so I pull up his page and he never hit for much power in the minors and now he's got an ISO over .200 from SS in 2019. Then I see, without knowing anything about the guy, a story from 5/19 on his profile page "Jorge Polanco Puts PED suspension behind him". Yea, he probably started getting the good undetectable shit from Nelson Cruz this season. Fuck the fucking Twins man.

Sox changing up their amateur scouting department according to Mark Gonzales
As many Bulls and Sox fans know JR leaves himself open to this sort of speculation because his orgs have a history of weird setups and personnel moves and rewarding loyalty above competence. I'm not going to give a blow by blow of every instance of it but the history of nepotism and intentionally opaque management structures (can't blame someone if nobody is in charge!) is out there in history for anybody to go google.

Lambs to the slaughter? We look to our shepherd Giolito as he faces Berrios and the Twins 8:10 EST
I'll take it. Give me a 3rd and 4th starter out of that deal and I'm more than happy.

He was in hr rate but again at 96 mph he has more margin for error the velocity drop is a bit worrying.

Jose is going to finish with a OPS+ most likely worse than Palka's 2018. Future cornerstone my fucking ass.

Lambs to the slaughter? We look to our shepherd Giolito as he faces Berrios and the Twins 8:10 EST
I'm with you man. It's infuriating. against the twins for extra insult a team that is liable to score 8+ on any given night.

Lambs to the slaughter? We look to our shepherd Giolito as he faces Berrios and the Twins 8:10 EST
The HR/FB regression we all knew was coming has hit Gio pretty hard his last half dozen starts or so. He's going to have to develop a 3rd pitch more on nights he's not sitting 96+ on his heater. 93-94 is going to get turned around often enough to hurt.

Lambs to the slaughter? We look to our shepherd Giolito as he faces Berrios and the Twins 8:10 EST
He's one of the biggest juicers in MLB. He's the closest thing to the roided up versions of Bonds and Sammy and McGuire and so many others we have in MLB today. Guy turned 33 and turned into Jim Thome.
