  1. I mean, it appears that way. Including some of the stupid twitter "leaks" about "competitive offer". Who the fuck loses a bid in FA and then comes up with the "competitive offer" shit? That's some spin.
  2. Read has apparently been optioned to Charlotte. Good riddance.
  3. The Sox must have a bottom 5 MLB scouting staff. The cannot access either their own guys or guys like Reed with any degree of accuracy. In theory Reed was a smart pickup in a tank year. In reality the Astros scouted him properly and the Sox are sleeping on guys already in the org that are better than Reed.
  4. Lopez has the same problem at times. If a MLB hitter knows a fastball is coming he can foul it off, even at the velocities Lopez and Cease reach. They both need to continue to refine their command on off speed pitches. Chris Sale's wipeout slider is probably the best example recently of how a pitcher can finish off a hitter. It has to be in the zone and out of the zone. Cease and Lopez too often are never in the zone with their offspeed stuff and it's just a show me pitch. Maybe in AA Cease was getting more chases but he's not in AAA and MLB so far.
  5. Things would look a helluva lot better with a 4-6 WAR cornerstone at 3B or RF already in the mix. But no, that was too much to ask. Their short sighted stupidity just leverages this offseason even greater and most likely it's a make or break year for the rebuild. There's not much coming up in the way of production after 2020. Holes will need to be filled via FA smartly this coming winter. Good luck.
  6. it's not PC but he's a fat slug and he is an OLD 63. I honestly have a hard time believing has has the day to day energy levels needed to perform at a high level in his duties.
  7. his ankle is healed but the only way to build the muscle back up is playing. the amount of muscle loss in these types of injuries is shocking and they are the fine motor muscles around the joint. you can tell he has zero push off it even tho he's probably not in much pain.
  8. it's almost like getting injured in late summer kinda fucks your timing. it is what it is. I wouldn't expect either at full speed for another couple weeks. Sox have to be healthier going forward it's just a fact.
  9. yea raise that trade value! wait that's not right.
  10. Because some fanboys or ceaseless prospect fluffers were going ga-ga over him improving from his absolutely putrid 500 OPS he was rocking into June. He's at like a 650 OPS right now with hardly any power. He'll be repeating AA next year in a make or break year for remaining a prospect. In much happier notes I don't think there's any doubt that Vaughn is going to be MLB ready in 2021 and perhaps even late summer next year. Adding Vaughn, Madrigal and Robert as the next wave is going to do wonders for the lineup. Need to obviously find the next wave now they they won't have massive advantages like the start of the rebuild but hey they did really well to get those guys despite all the other problems in the org.
  11. ironic jose gets his precious rbi as his slash line falls to a Palka like 262.299.474
  12. You guys are morons if you think playing through a hamstring strain of any grade is heroic. It's fucking moronic and how you end up like Chris Paul in your early 30s. I'm glad he asked out and if it's 2 weeks it's obviously is more than just "tightness". These next 40+ games are meaningless in the grand scheme. Moncada has already proven he can handle 3rd and put up a potential 6 WAR season. Let him rest up, get back out there in a couple weeks and finish strong.
  13. this franchise is a wet fart. you think you're going to find relief and all you find is never trust a fart or a JR org.
  14. sounds like the attitude that got us james shields.
  15. You're spot on here and you know what? I get the feeling that Hahn doesn't think it's his job to sell JR on these investments. Again that's infuriating as a fan.
  16. That's great except there's no evidence the Sox have any sort of plan here beyond saving money. Most of these latin guys are so young that scouting is crapshoot. As @bmags often says it's partly just a numbers game at that low of a level. You want bodies. Quality is fine but quantity also will pay off in the long run.
  17. It is a big deal given all we know about JR and his orgs. It's another troubling sign that winning, although a priority, is not the main focus. Winning is nice, but profits are better.
  18. Sadly the simplest answer is that the org doesn't think it's important or is to cheap to invest in the area. Either way it's incredibly disheartening as a fan. There's no good explanation as to why they a) didn't spend the money and b) traded it away to clear ash tray money from the payroll.
  19. What a joke. Sometime in the next 8 months this franchise is going to have to APPEAR to not be run like a bodega with empty shelves and a back entrance for the crew's money guy to take a clean suitcase of bills every Friday evening. You want fans to think of it as a real club and not just a front to make money for JR? Then stock some fucking shelves.
  20. when your argument for keeping a guy boils down to anything but his on field production you know you're drowning.
  21. If nobody asks him about it postgame well, that would be par for the course for the media.
  22. madrigal is a once in a 1k profile for a modern player. I'd be fine with it. He's more like a cricket batter.
  23. thanks I got my heckling material for ricky next month in seattle.
  24. I am a FAN of the squeeze and I still think Renteria uses it about 500% more often than it's called for.
  25. anybody that pays close attention sees the same thing it's a classic aging slugger profile. look at this. he can't hit fastballs anymore.
