Goldschmidt is a legit star. His worst seasons are about as good as Jose's bests. He's projected for 4.2 fWAR on Steamer, Jose is projected at 2.4. I'd go ahead and take the over on that delta of 1.8 fWAR for 2019. I keep saying it over and over but just observing Jose and looking at the back of his baseball card -- he's an old 31. I do think he is 33 or 34.

Man this dude is over rated here. He is a an utterly fungible 2-4 WAR 1B that is probably 2 years older than his listed age. Nice player, not a star, not anymore anyways. Had a great rookie year. Love him to death as a clubhouse guy but if the right deal is out there you move him as in 3 more years, when in theory the Sox should be absolutely cooking, he will be long out of his prime.

Yikes. Mariners played themselves this week. They are tucked for 5-6 years. Their farm is still bottom 3rd.

It's an odd trade for the Mariners. Ostensibly they are rebuilding. They don't need to bring in a catcher if they are selling off relievers and anything else not bolted down. They ditched Zunino earlier this offseason so they had a "hole" at catcher, but I mean that's a feature not a bug in a tank.

It appears they are ready to pay attention to defense. Maybe they are trying to start the winning part of this thing.

If there is one thing I trust Hahn with it's selling high on guys that are reclamation projects. Omar had a nice season offensively but now that the book is out on him he's going to see a lot more early fastballs and good luck if he can make an adjustment to get the bat off his shoulder earlier in counts. Plus he's the worst defensive catcher I think many of us long time fans have seen at the MLB level. Forget about framing, he can't even give a steady target to the pitcher he is constantly shifting his target during the windup.

that's an insult to el caballo and teams are way too smart these days to give a multi year deal to someone like Avi. If he gets non tendered he'll have a hard time getting more than 1 year 6-7 million. Can't stay healthy, and is pretty much a 2 WAR talent even 100%. lol, our fearless leader when the deal went down:

not a chance if you want him to play more than 100 games. His body can't really handle more than 50-75 games outside 1B/DH anymore. As soon as 2020 he's a full time 1B/DH and that will kill his value. If there's a move to be made here as a 3rd team to grease the wheels do it but nothing about Cano himself fits with what Chicago, at least ostensibly, is trying to do.

I've watched Cruz a lot here in Seattle. I think he's got another good season with the bat in his tank. But I don't really see why the Sox would sign him unless they are planning on clearing up room at DH and contending in 2019 and that means signing a lot more FA after Cruz. Maybe they are, if they spend a bunch of money I'll stop complaining for a minute.

I feel you dude. This will be my last post until next spring or maybe winter meetings time. I really lost it the other day as really about 10 years of frustration with the Sox (and all my teams really, it's been by far the worst decade of my fandom for UM, USMNT, Bulls and Sox) boiled over on the Kopech news. Enjoy talking about the Sox guys, in general Soxtalk.com had a really great year IMO. Place got some new blood, new design, and the FutureSox crew continues to expand their work.
