He's earned another year. This multi year extension talk is crazy. Especially for a guy that has said in so many ways he only wants to play for one team.
  2. There are two separate parts to this: 1) Was/Is the rebuild the right decision, and 2) Was/Is this FO the ones to lead it? I think almost 100% of fans, here or otherwise, would agree that the rebuild was the right decision. Many less would agree that Hahn and Co. were the ones to lead it. As I posted last night the rebuild year gets a straight "C". It was the minimum required to show competency. Do better. There are elite teams in baseball with elite FOs. Minimal competency isn't going to get the job done. First exam is Free Agency. They need to ace it.
  3. We have all the knowledge we need. Last winning season was in 2012. Team hasn't sniffed a division title in 15 years. Same guys in charge of that run are still in charge. So yea, as fans, we don't need to shove our head up the bull's ass to get a good look at the steak. We can just taste the steak, and know it's putrid.
  4. Notice how in the quote he has nothing specific to note about Cooper other than "old school pitching mentality" then goes into specifics about how the analytics to performance guys are helping him. Faint praise imo for Cooper.
  5. Same but it's hard to feel any good about it given how shit the league is and how far away they still are. 72 feels a helluva long way from 95-100, which is what appears it's going to take to compete for a title in the next 5 years. Overall, as of now, I'm giving the entirety of the season, including offseason, a straight C. It was the minimum expected to show competence in the rebuild. Emphasis on minimum. Onus is on them to show improvement.
  6. Oh just wait until he gets that juiced ball. The comp was in overall impact as a SS prospect, not in play style, fwiw.
  7. One year with a vesting option and buyout makes a lot of sense. Something like 600 PA maybe and a 3 million dollar buyout on top of 1 year 12 million. Unless there's been a dramatic shift in how mid 30s DHs with good but not great bats are evaluated he should be more than happy with a deal like that. Frankly I feel like if the Sox don't make him an offer he's unlikely to even get that.
  8. I have an Ozzie Guillen autograph and a Jose Abreu autograph. That's it. Really doesn't change my feelings about either. I root for the laundry ya know? When Ozzie and Jose are no longer assets to the laundry I move on. Sentimentalism has little place in sports or life. Except perhaps for newspaper columnists and hagiographers.
  9. If you told me Jim was Greg I wouldn't bat an eye. They both have a lot of the same myopic viewpoints despite watching a shitload of Sox baseball. Good players can have weaknesses.
  10. Well we should just him by the entirety of his season and by that measure he is the definition of inconsistent. Every player looks better when you cut out the bad parts of their year.
  11. You can only look at his position in each stat relative to others. He's not had a great year by any stretch, in fact it's been a pretty bad year for anything other than a 5th starter. But at least he's managed to eat some innings and turn things around a bit in the 2nd half. He's 11th from the bottom in SIERA he's 2nd from the bottom in xFIP. The difference really isn't worth discussing as at this point his path to improvement is clear and that's less walks, better command, better secondary offerings.
  12. I think Fangraphs has said as much and that it's badly in need of an update to reflect the new HR rates. I like SIERA it's the best. https://library.fangraphs.com/pitching/siera/
  13. I was briefly conversational in college and it was always much easier to speak in language lab with the native speaker peers than trying to talk to the Professor in class. I'd think a lot of these latin guys are conversational among their team mates but just don't feel comfie in front of the reporters, don't blame them.
  14. There's a lot of red flags in his profile including those. But he's held it together and hasn't completely imploded which should give him a foundation to build on this offseason. The most important thing is to cut the fucking walks out. And in order to do that he's going to have to find his command. Similar to Giolito you can live with solo shots. You can't live with three run bombs after walking the leadoff guys.
  15. No it will be Wander and rightfully so. Toolsy SS putting up those numbers in high A at his age is insane. Tatis 2.0
  16. increased offense + the Sox' sieve like defense helps him relatively. He hasn't been great, but he's been an alright 5th starter. At least he's serviceable heading into next year. You can squint and seeing him improving to a solid 4 or even 3 in a couple years.
  17. I'm a little worried Yolmer is playing himself onto the roster next year.
  18. He seems fairly decent on the bases.
  19. Eloy turning his season around is massive. Great to see. Same for Collins keep it up guys.
  20. I dunno but DFW wrote that about Federer but he could have wrote it about Robert. Looking forward to him next year. Great sig!
  21. White Sox FO: Nah, we signing him to play 1B until 2024 at an AAV of 15 million. That's the worry from the 3rd camp.
  22. Ashley Schafer needs some new sales staff.
  23. Well deserved, kid has had a monster year.
  24. Yea it's a bad habit and I don't think he'll ever be that reliable with his arm until he learns to set and throw consistently. I love TA, huge fan of his, but his problems in the field need to be corrected for him to be a star.
  25. I think ZIPS had him at like 270/330/480 before the season started. He's had a bit of a down year so far but if he finishes strong he'll be right there where he was projected. Going forward though he has to be something like 280/350/550 to be a superstar bat and a 4-5 WAR player in LF. Sox are going to need his production.
