My opinion is that 50 million spread out over 5-8 years won't cripple the Sox. Just don't fucking give him a 10 year deal. I'd gladly outbid the Yankees by 50 million over 6 years if that's what it takes. The Sox have so many prospects coming through the org that by the time they have to pay everybody they should be rolling in revenue, wins and success and will want to keep the good thing going. Manny's extra AAV of 10 or so million isn't going to cripple any necessary resigning of home grown talent. IMO of course.

I think Manny's wife will be ok with her new rock she'll surely have on her finger or neck, and get over not being around her brother so much if a team outbids the White Sox. If we want to get all stereotypical about women.

Man we need to start teaching logic again in school. You can't put two and two together? If the market is trying to low ball them or not break the bank, then just fucking be the club that says "you're our target, we want you, and we will pay the most because you're OUR GUY". Show the fucking love. It's how Seattle got Cano. And as we've seen, no contract is ever unmovable. If Harper or Manny or both doesn't work out and the Sox find themselves rebuilding again, then taking on salary will expedite it.

If the market is tepid for these guys then Chicago just needs to backup the truck. It's that simple.

Frank Mags Robin Contreras Dye quite a few guys honorable mention including, El Duque, Uribe, Buehrle, Durham, Baines and Thome. Never really was a huge fan of Paulie's game. Respect him, but imo a boring player for the most part.

personal relationships matter in sports like anything else and the "pot odds" if you will here are huge for the Sox. They've already invested A LOT of the rebuild in making a big FA push this offseason for a Whale. What's a rather meaningless prospect like Call and 9 million or so dollars when they've already pushed so many chips into the pot?
