Sale and Red Sox nearing extension
Something is wrong in his shoulder. Good luck to him but this could be the beginning of the end.

Home Opener pushed to Friday
Good job Sox.

Sox and Tribe Game #2
So are they gonna play it or what? edit: yikes, it's only Wednesday, they are still in Cleveland.

that's well said. but we're tanking and I'm gonna be bothered. puting covey into that came was like putting in Felicio. I'm kinda sick of it. but some of the kids are playing well so for now it's tolerable.

Giolito thread
Probably the first time in a White Sox uni Gio had all of his pitches at least somewhat working for him. Positive beginning for him no doubt.

Bingo. Who cares if they have to go three days in a row? There's an off day today and it's April. It's not like these guys have 100 innings under their belt and it's late August.

This year's schedule seems really screwed up
I agree the days off early are stupid. Just take the risk of a double header later in the year if it's bad weather opening week.

Weekday tailgating
Looking at the schedule they literally could not have picked a worse day this week to have the opener. Thursday looks like it will rainy and in the 40s. WTF is this bullshit 2 day series with Cleveland with an off day mixed in? I don't get it.

well with no scheduled days off for weeks and it being august and herrera already having 80 innings this year...wait what?

Moncada
I'm still lukewarm on the move but so far he's looked solid there. Thing is I'm not convinced he wasn't going to take a big leap at 2B this year had he stayed there. He made some incredible plays last year as well just had some youthful lapses. Moncada had only 5 doubles all year against LHP in 2018 and an OPS of 585 against LHP. He is 1-1 this year with the double after yesterday's game. Keep it going.

If nothing else he got 650 big league PA last year. He's almost 24 this could be his breakout year. You could count on one hand the amount of times he showed pull power (I like how he went and got it and turned it around, he is a talented athlete when he's focused with elite hand eye) against lefties last year so if he can keep that up somewhat he's going to be a much better player long term. Needs to get that OPS up around 700-750 against LHP and then around 880 against RHP long term. Kid has flashed quite a bit this year if you didn't know anything about him or the Sox you'd easily think he's our best player. Keep it up.

Haven't really seen during his tenure that Ricky knows what high leverage innings are. At times it feels like he's tanking. As for the start, really it's about what was expected outside of the nice start from Nova. Team has mediocre SP at best, a god awful defense, and solid lineup and a mediocre at best pen. All is going to add up to around 75 wins. Could have squinted and seen 80+ with Machado, that's the rub. Also: let's keep these threads open or make a postgamer win or loss.

RV and RR manage the bullpen on hope. Well, shit in one hand and hope in the other and see which one fills up fastest. It's fucking April, you can burn through some innings with your late inning guys and get them rest later if need be. Blind hope is not strategy.

I don't mind Yolmer, was a huge fan of his as a prospect but I get the vitriol towards him because he's a symbol of the offseason failure. He should be a bench guy, but instead he's starting again.

are you serious? among other things he absolutely dominated the DWL two years running and that is usually seen as AAAA level pitching with plenty of junk ballers. His hands and hips are incredibly fast to the ball and produce easy, light tower power. he's struggling with MLB quality breaking balls, in part because he's getting behind in the count after fouling off hittable fastballs. He'll be alright.

You gotta wonder if Yolmer relaxed this offseason knowing for the first time in his career has was all but guaranteed a 25 man spot. He looks completely unready to play in all facets. I don't think he relaxed too much with a wife and kids at home but he's obviously not all with it mentally that error today was incredible. A soft looping line drive and he completely misjudges it. Similar to the double play ball he whiffed on against the Royals.

If we had a roster of 2 fWAR players at age 22/23 this rebuild would be going a helluva lot better. Moncada is a huge break out candidate this year because of the experience he gained at the MLB level last year.

His bat speed looks fine to me. He's just fouling off fastballs he should be putting in play and is struggling to adjust, like most, to MLB quality breaking pitches. Give him 500 PA before making any big conclusions. And you could argue it should be 1000-1500 PA. Long, long way to go.
