He's done. I just hope it wasn't him breaking rehab protocol. Sox might have a beef with him then. What an awful pick in hindsight.

Why not hire Ozzie? Make things interesting.
chitownsportsfan replied to ron883's topic in Pale Hose Talk
ozzie being a little b**** is what got himself fired. he let his ego manage after 2006 or so. the dude won the Sox a WS and helped me through one of the darkest parts of my life (it's a father son story told though the Sox in part) , I'm not going to begrudge the guy jack shit but ffs no, just no on bringing him back. as others mentioned, he quit on the Sox. That's a cardinal sin. -
Goodness, WS had 19 hits tonight. Ti'Quan Forbes is holding his own down there, improving his K/BB rate massively and his slash line, although he's still only at a 688 OPS. He's got a long ways to go but he's got time, as he doesn't turn 22 until late August.

I'm loving this Lampert guy. A lot of guys forcing the issue right now. Great to see.
-
Nobody is giving up on him but he wouldn't be getting AA batters out with his stuff this season. Other than the one start, he's had absolutely nothing. He can't control his mediocre fastball, his changeup is a show me pitch, and his curve ball is flat and rarely if ever thrown for a taken strike. He's fooling nobody.

Paxton got it. Cool.

As noted, dude is a mental midget on the mound.

Ben Gamel made a leaping play at the wall to keep it going. Crazy. I turned the Sox game off and put the Mariners game on the radio. A lot more fun.

I have to admit that I have not liked the scouting report on this guy since they day he was acquired. Everything about it just screams "damaged goods" in more ways than one, and by that I mean physically as well as mentally I'm not sure he's fit to pitch in MLB. That said, Hahn made the best deal he could for Eaton and I hope with all hope that Gio proves me wrong. If Cooper can't get through to him though, I don't see much hope.

Hard to believe this guy was ever a top 10 overall prospect in baseball let alone contending for #1.

424 ft to center on Eloy's bomb: Sounds like he got jammed honestly. He's got so much power in that damn bat.

How To / Site Issues / Username Changes
chitownsportsfan replied to Chisoxfn's topic in How Does That Work?
I'd encourage everybody to use the post ratings more. They are limited but they do help foster community. Again, I'd change them to "Thanks, Agree, Disagree, and LOL". edit: Thanks for the "confused" icon, which is a really useless icon imo because it tells you nothing about the OP or WHY the person reading is confused. If you really want to have a negative rating like that just use "dumb" so everybody is clear. The ratings should basically just be used as shortcuts to typing out a post. I spend way too much time at work on various forums. This one is way towards the bottom (even with the upgrade) as far as user interaction and redundant posts (that exist because there is no "disagree or agree" button). There are ALOT of cases where a simple "agree" or "disagree" button would save a lot of wasted scrolling. The "like" is 80% of the time just an "agree". If you want to keep "like" than just realize people are going to use it as "agree". I do it rather than reply with "+1" or "I agree". It's a shortcut. Again, my opinion only, but there really needs to be an "agree" rating. That's the one I think would help the board the most, especially on mobile. -
Kopech vs. Cubs Saturday? UPDATE: Nope.

Oh man, feels like college football season trying to parse the 18-22 year old's tweets! -

Yea they have a similar setup except it's a little different when you have the gravitas and resume that Epstein does. -

I think that's how they make most decisions but I would just add that I think Hahn has to have the final say. KW and JR have input, but I would expect that the final call comes down to Hahn. Maybe they pressure him at times but I would bet in his contract he has some wording to the effect that he has 100% control on personnel. -

Everytime this comes up (that Hahn doesn't have 100% authority) I have to just ask: so why the fuck is he on the job? Why would he risk his entire future employment being the fall guy as the titular "GM" if he's being over-ridden by the owner or KW? Maybe that's the working relationship they have but JR has never, ever struck me as the meddling type. KW sure, but if Hahn doesn't have final say on all roster moves than again I'd ask why he has chosen to be the GM of the White Sox. Maybe he's just a cuck that way, but I doubt it, given his ascendance as one of the younger GMs in the game and his background as a new analytics type. -

Not sure what part of "want" and "ideally" you missed in his comments. Hahn always couches his public statements in plenty of caveats. Nothing changed and this was the plan all along would be my guess (if they do call him up). -

Eloy has about 150 PA in AA and he has like a 330/400/600 slash line. If you include his 100 or so PA in the DWL (usually considered AA-AAA level) he's basically produced at like a 180 wRC+ level over his last 250 PA at that level. As I said in the other thread, he's ready to come up and hit 260/320/480 now. It's only a matter if they want to keep him out of Super 2, which IMO shouldn't really be a concern. There's no way they can keep him down all year and extend that service time out to next year, not without seriously pissing him off IMO and perhaps poisoning the relationship the Sox have with him. -
Kopech vs. Cubs Saturday? UPDATE: Nope.
chitownsportsfan replied to KrankinSox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I've argued that I don't really think there's much growth left for Kopech in AAA so I wouldn't mind the move. Presumably he'd be up to stay and Kopech seems like a guy that is going to benefit from being around other big leaguers and seeing how they work, prepare, and balance the intensity over a 162 game season. Working on his changeup or whatever at AAA is fine, but he's not going to face the pressure of big league innings and again, from what I've seen of Kopech he is a "iron sharpens iron" type. He's a lot like Moncada in that there's just too much natural talent there to really force improvement at the minor league level. -
Nice. Good on the Sox for spending a little more to keep a quality product. The Sox rate highly on the hot dog rater: https://lifehacker.com/every-hot-dog-in-major-league-baseball-ranked-1819249617

Do the Sox use Aramark as their vendor? If so, I don't think you could pay me a $1 to eat one of their hot dogs.
-
Opening AB single for Eloy, OPS now over 1000 for the season and his hitting streak extended to 11 games. He's sporting a 15.8% K rate. He's probably ready to hit 260/320/480 in MLB right now. I don't think you could call him up today and think you were rushing him. At the least, move him up to AAA by the end of May. He proved, a long with his performance in the winter Dominican league, that AA level is no challenge for him.

That delivery from McClure is nice. Really easy to see him adding some velocity as he matures into his frame. And thanks I had asked about him too, interesting tidbit on his bonus. Seems like a smart pick from the Sox at that spot.
