Mental error. He seems surprised how good MLB players are from time to time. You see the same thing when he doesn't realize how fast the runner is going to 1st when he fields. This dude is still really raw in a lot of ways, mentally and physically. I'm starting to wonder what good Rick and Jose are doing as leaders because it's clear that something isn't getting through to him about how you have to play full speed all the time, or at least 99% of the time.

This guy's head is swimming. IMO it makes the case he should have been called up earlier last year to have gotten more big league reps as AAA wasn't challenging him. Anyways, I'm hoping he's like most toosly middle infielders and really puts it together from 25-30ish. He's got a lot to work on but he's also got a lot of things going for him. Just his athletic tool overall makes his floor about 2 WAR, which is about what we're seeing at 23.

Well there's still no true backup SS because Leury hasn't played a single game at SS for the Sox since last year, where he played all of 2. Not having a guy you're comfie with backing up short isn't ideal. Not that I'm excusing the overall poor job Renteria does. If the bunting is an org wide thing I'd just pray that it's practice and not some philsophy. It would seem absolutely absurd to me that a team would shift AND bunt as much as the Sox. That's like the logical equivalent of growing up a Yankees and Jets fan.

I've thought this over some and part of the problem is the shit roster construction and not having a true backup IF on the bench since Tyler was cut. It's obvious that Leury isn't an IF anymore so that leaves you exactly ZERO guys that can play SS/2B on the bench most nights. That is just asking for trouble long term. I guess I'll give Rick a pass on this one but FFS what is he fucking doing with the fucking IBB and bunts...he also seems to loathe the hit and run, which is something this team is naturally suited for and should be using much more often.

Sweet, when I was down there it seemed like basketball was the most popular sport, it's nice to see a new generation of the PR players starting to arrive up into the big leagues again.

About 7 years ago I rented a place down in Isla Verde (calle Urano, lol) for about 5 weeks. This was after my dad passed and I had a bit of money and time to figure shit out, was still in my mid 20s. Also spent a week in San Juan as a teen with my parents. When I was there last time we took a couple days and drove all around the island. Saw pretty much all of it including El Yungue and Arecibo and the poorer southern side. I'm a huge fan of cuchifritos and mufongo but here in the PNW there's no good PR joints IMO. I had a bunch in NYC I liked but none here, they are all really mediocre. Not nearly enough garlic in the mufongo.

Bunting is almost always bad. I think there is about a 20% chance he gets a hit and a 1% chance he walks it off. With bunting I think there is a about 1% chance he gets a hit and a ZERO percent chance he walks it off.

If he didn't have a history of burning through position players and relievers with complete ignorance for the potential for problems in extra innings I'd give him the benefit of the doubt. But once again he's left the Sox with only the backup catcher on the bench.
