QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Oct 11, 2014 -> 04:53 PM) I'm not sure a single MLB team can average 3-4 contributors for every drafts. With 6 years of control that would give you 24 guys prior to FA. That basically sets you up to compete for the world series every year because you can trade a guy or two and sign big money FA's with no worries whatsoever since you have a loaded young roster. 3 draft successes per year over a 4 year period will put you in world series contention for half a decade.

Arizona Fall League - 7 Sox prospects

QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 11, 2014 -> 07:06 PM) another name to put with those 3 is I believe Adams. He's too far away to be top 100. Just flat out too young against the competition. -
Kenny Williams a possible GM for Dodgers?
Balta1701 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 11, 2014 -> 07:26 PM) Why not? The serious answer? He told us that physically the stress of being a GM for that long was more than he could take and I don't blame him one bit for that. Making multi-million dollar gut instinct decisions and then having to wait 2-3 years to see if the results work out while still focusing on every game? The stress levels are inhuman, and Kenny spelled that out very well on "The club". Billy Beane in Moneyball is doing the same thing, not watching games to manage the stress. Kenny could take it for a while but had to call it quits at some point. -
QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 11, 2014 -> 07:32 PM) re: Tomas, when will be the final decision be made. is there a timeline? about any other int'l players? IMO, some team will try to get this done before the full free agent period starts in early December so that they don't have to worry about the qualifying offer decisions, but not too much before then. They also won't want the press releases stomped by the World Series. Mid November for these international guys, that's when Abreu signed last year.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Oct 11, 2014 -> 05:55 PM) There you go. So Law says that with Montas quickly emerging into a front-line starter prospect, the Sox will have 4 in the top 100 (Montas plus presumably Anderson, Rodon and ?). So that brings up a good question - do we move Quintana or [gasp] Sale to bring in some top flight positional talent? Frankly, still no. If someone wants to give up a Puig for a pitcher fine, I'm open, but without that, Quintana outdid most #1 pitchers in WAR this year. If he gets any better next year, the next level is challenging for a Cy Young. Give me these 2 insane lefties at the top of the rotation, put them with a decent offense and a non-terrible defense/bullpen and they will pitch us into the playoffs. I need someone worth that, someone who can, right now, carry this team into the playoffs for 3 years, before I think about this.

QUOTE (bear_brian @ Oct 11, 2014 -> 01:02 PM) Not sure where you have heard about a $15M qualifying offer. Melky currently makes $8M per year and is a 3+ WAR player. A 3+ WAR player would be a good guy to give a qualifying offer to.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 11, 2014 -> 11:33 AM) So what happened to all of the "value" guys when it comes to Viciedo? Not sure what this means?

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Oct 11, 2014 -> 09:49 AM) Bassitt has shown some real talent. I'd like to see if guys like Carroll can do relief work. He's effective when he can throw it at the ankles. Danish has that funky delivery - don't know if he holds up as a starter. Of course just because they use Bassitt in the pen for a year or 2, doesn't mean he's confined there forever. I think Carroll has absolutely earned himself a shot in the pen next year. He can get big league hitters out and he was actually quite good against them the first time through the order this year, so that's a decent fit for the pen.

White Sox see multiple players on top defensive MiLB CF's

QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 10, 2014 -> 07:03 PM) here is question, at what point does a prospects stop being a prospects. at what age. Thompson, is 23 and will be 24 next season. is he still really a 4 tool player? For us, he stops being a prospect when we have someone with better prospects who needs the 40 man roster spot or he runs out of options. -
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Oct 10, 2014 -> 07:48 PM) No offense, but this is a horrible way to look at this. The fact is Viciedo has been a below average player for us over the course of his career. Just because we paid him slightly less than the open market rate for WAR doesn't negate the fact he provided us with below average production. At the end of the day, wasting precious roster spots on below average players because they technically provided you with a small amount of surplus value is always going to be a losing proposition. a team with ~0 WAR wins what, ~55 games or so? Viciedo fit well on a 60 win team!

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Oct 10, 2014 -> 06:05 PM) All I said was please let this be true, nothing dirogitory about KW and this is the response I get? Somebody call the whaaaaaaambulance, someone hurt Balta's feewings. Whaaaaa! I am perfectly content with Kenny Williams in his current role and would be disappointed if he were to leave as a fan of the White Sox. As a "top level scout" he is incredibly useful and Jose Dariel Abreu re-proves that. -

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Oct 10, 2014 -> 05:52 PM) Please let this be true, please! Yeah, what has that bum done for us lately. We never even heard anything about that 1b he scouted last offseason, that must have wound up as a disaster. -
QUOTE (mr_genius @ Oct 10, 2014 -> 04:35 PM) The facts are the police shot an unarmed teen whom was simply holding a sandwich that happened to shoot bullets. as Balta stated, there are eye witness accounts to this. Um, I did not state that.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Oct 10, 2014 -> 04:18 PM) well then they should be fired for not doing their job. if they arrest the burglar they should also be fired though. it's just one of those things. you wouldn't understand because you're uneducated about social justice. Plus he maces himself every day since that's fun.

QUOTE (shysocks @ Oct 10, 2014 -> 12:33 PM) Ditto. Plus I've been wearing one for so long now that I feel weird without it. i do, glance at it all the time, especially during gym runs and classes.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 10, 2014 -> 12:19 PM) Except they're never going to take Danks back in return. And if they were to send $20 million, they're going to ask for a pretty good prospect...Hawkins, probably. Then they're not moving him to anyone.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 10, 2014 -> 10:41 AM) Masterson still has my interest as a potential turn around guy. I'd love to see a front office discussion that involves his medicals and Don Cooper on his mechanics. I agree, but that's if we're still focusing on younger/undervalued guys and not making big splashes. You make a big splash on a guy, you bring in a Puig (or a VMart, or someone else like that at a huge price), you don't risk having that investment be pointless because you risked your entire rotation on Masterson finding the form he had prior to this year.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 10, 2014 -> 10:16 AM) The bolded is a little ridiculous. With the tools Trayce has, his FLOOR is probably what D2 is right now. His ceiling is much higher. Danks was 23 at Charlotte because he reached Charlotte after just 113 pro games, which is insane and was quite obviously far too aggressive. He then spent 2.5 seasons there until he got good. Danks also does not have the speed or raw power that Thompson does. Thompson hasn't put it together yet, and there's a good chance he won't. But he's already, today, going to be similar to what Danks brings in the majors. So Trayce Thompson's floor is a backup major league OF who is at least on occasion tolerable with the bat? You will guarantee that he will reach that level? I just don't see that. His floor to me is a guy who struggles with offense at Charlotte and is only ever promoted as an injury fill in because he hits worse than Danks. He definitely has the tools to be better than that, but right now I'm skeptical that he'll ever reach the level Jordan currently is. That's what it means that "his floor is lower than Danks right now". -
QUOTE (scs787 @ Oct 10, 2014 -> 10:37 AM) Hypothetically speaking if they traded Q+ for Puig they can then sign Masterson for a year and go with Sale-Masterson-Rodon-Noesi-Danks with Bassitt starting until Rodon is ready and then taking over for DAnks should they trade him. Assuming they can get Masterson to revert back to good Masterson that's not a bad starting rotation. I'm saying all that as a fan of Chris Bassitt and thinking he can no doubt be apart of the rotation, and I also believe Montas will be ready to step into the rotation in 2016. Yeah, but if Masterson doesn't return to form, you miss the playoffs because your rotation is so weak. If you're making such a huge move to upgrade your offense, do your really want to hang your playoff chances on Masterson and Danks being solid starting pitchers when both have lost similar amounts of velocity? If you're doing a move like that, grabbing Puig...you sign a much better starting pitcher and tell the team they're making the playoffs this year.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Oct 10, 2014 -> 09:03 AM) Ballistics tests will tell the tale, whether the people want to believe them or not. Science > some random peoples "opinions". And what will happen is that no matter what, people will believe the tests have been falsified because this community does not trust the police to be honest. "They're lying about the gun shot residue on his hands" or whatever. Until we understand that is part of the issue and something that needs to be dealt with, all the science will not matter. That is the end result of a police force and a part of the community which are completely at odds. It's the same story as the previous shooting, the police closed ranks, declared war on the community, took off their name tags to hide from responsibility, trampled a makeshift memorial to the guy the night he was shot, why should the people trust the police to be honest about what they find?
-
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Oct 10, 2014 -> 03:47 AM) I don't understand all the outrage I am seeing over the Shaw shooting. Unless what I've read/heard is wrong, some kid/guy fired 3 shots at the officer. The officer returned fire and killed the guy, and everyone is screaming racism and policing killing innocent black people again? What was the cop supposed to do? Let the person actually hit him with a bullet before returning fire? Not return fire at all because white cops can't shoot people of other races? I don't get all the protesting and outrage over this completely justified-sounding event. I'd like to hear what the protesters think would have been the correct thing for the officer to do while being fired upon. The family is saying that the kid was unarmed and got caught up with a group of people running away from the cop and that the cop shot the wrong kid. Whether that's accurate or not...the bigger part of this is that the community does not trust the police to fairly investigate what actually happened, and therefore people are angry about another police shooting. So even if the police say they found the weapon, the local population does not believe them.
