QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 11, 2014 -> 07:18 PM) Any food tips for NYC? Going to be going out there for work in about a month and the Mrs. is going to come out as well. Seriously? I mean like you're actually asking this? You kinda need some specifics. But really, let's face it, you're in perhaps the cooking capital of the world. Make yourself a list of things you want to try, either cuisine types, costs, celebrity chefs, local places, or places around wherever you're working, and you're not going to go wrong. Walking 1/4 of Manhattan is like walking across Chicago in terms of the number of places you're passing.

QUOTE (1dog @ Aug 11, 2014 -> 04:48 PM) The having to be a "threat on the base paths" to bat higher in the order doesn't really make a lot of sense. Yes, you would like the guys batting 1 and 2 to have some speed, but the most important thing has to be their ability to actually GET ON BASE. Bat Conor second, for f***'s sake, it's not that tough. Or, just this... There is an actual problem with Connor 2nd as the lineup is currently constructed. L - Eaton. L - Gillaspie. Righty, righty, righty, righty, righty, righty, righty. Perfect setup for a bullpen to devastate the team with specialists. -
QUOTE (southside hitman @ Aug 11, 2014 -> 12:27 PM) They are five games back in the Southern division of the Carolina League with a losing record of 24-26. Not sure what the playoff format is, maybe top two teams from each division? Anyway, the 3rd place team is only a half game back and the 4th place team is 1.5. Did they win the first half?

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 11, 2014 -> 11:53 AM) Versus 25 games? It's still an incredibly small sample size. If he does that over 25 games, do you suddenly say "oh it's a fluke and he hasn't earned a longer look?" ON the grounds that it was only september, yes, people would say that.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 11, 2014 -> 11:49 AM) Bottom line, do people view Andy Wilkins differently if he comes up tomorrow and hits .300/.350/.500 in 40 games and 130 plate appearances as opposed to if he comes up September 1st and hits .300/.350/.500 in 25 games and 85 plate appearances? I'm still going to have the same general concerns heading into the year next year. Kinda. It would sure help. You certainly couldn't tell me "He hasn't yet earned a longer look" if he did that for 40 games.

QUOTE (Lillian @ Aug 11, 2014 -> 11:41 AM) Another point, which I made in a previous post, is that a left handed power hitter, to protect Abreu, is a top priority of the organization. There are very few candidates to fill that role, whom they could acquire in free agency, even if they were that eager to spend big money. Wilkins is the only player in the organization who could potentially fill that need. Why not do everything possible to try to get a better "read" on his chances? What is the point of leaving him in AAA? Regardless of how much of a stretch the Abreu stats comparison was, this is an entirely correct and accurate point IMO.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 11, 2014 -> 11:37 AM) That park is also playing like a bandbox this year as well. I believe I saw a pretty convincing argument that this wasn't true, with most of the guys there putting up similar numbers on the road. Wilkins's OPS, for example, is 100 points higher on the road. This may be in part an artifact of "a really brief, very intense hot streak at a time when they were on a road trip" but it makes it difficult to say Wilkins's recent performance is a park adjustment feature.

QUOTE (southside hitman @ Aug 11, 2014 -> 11:33 AM) Michalczewski promoted to the Dash....do not love this move considering his struggle with strikeouts and his age. The Dash are the team looking at the playoff run right?

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Aug 11, 2014 -> 11:14 AM) I just hope some mujas aren't infecting those children swarming our border. All it would take is the gathering of samples from some Ebola corpses. Or you could use a woman to carry out a suicide mission. Infect her and then have her go hook up with drunk people in Dubai before they fly home all over the world. Does anybody know how protected the corpses are? Insta-burn would be a nice greater-good policy. You know what the best protection these corpses have is? They f***ing died of ebola. You go grab it.

Tony Stewart purposefully ran someone over?

One thing mentioned in my morning paper is that in this type of racing when there is a confrontation like this it isn't atypical for the driver still in the car to accelerate in order to speed away from the brewing confrontation. -
QUOTE (whtsoxfan @ Aug 10, 2014 -> 09:31 PM) the Sox were out scored in August so far 76 to 33 !!! Question : is it the pitching that sucks so bad or the hitting ??? Well, today is August 10th. I don't know if there's been an off day, but assuming there hasn't been, that means the Sox are giving up 7.60 runs per game and scoring 3.30 runs per game. The answer, therefore, would appear to be both.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 10, 2014 -> 09:25 PM) Good. He was horrific. However, think about it ... how embarrassing for Mr. Hahn. This has to be the first time in the modern era (since the start of the over-use of bullpens regarding matchups from the sixth inning on) that a team has had absolutely no lefty in the pen. You've got to have some lefties for gosh sakes. Can't they bring up some hack who can throw from the left side to take his turn?
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 10, 2014 -> 09:38 PM) Definitely. The Sox body of work since 2005 has been so depressing. I really thought the team was set up to dominate a division full of small market teams (til Detroit started spending finally). Am I the only one who thought the Sox were set up to win the division for many years after 2005? At any rate, this has little to do with Paulie. It's not his fault. Yeah, it's not Paulie's fault. He wasn't on the team after 2005.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 10, 2014 -> 07:07 PM) Okay great thanks for clarifying. Noesi, Ramirez, and Gillaspie aren't part of the problem either. Go ahead and include them. I'm not sold that any of them are part of the core of the next great White Sox team though. Do you count a 4th starter or a solid contributor as part of the core? I mean, every great team will still have some solid role-players around the lineup. -
Is Ventura the worst manager in the history of MLB?

QUOTE (Vance Law @ Aug 10, 2014 -> 07:11 PM) Actually Robin told Abreu not to strike out twice and ground into a double play- to instead hit like he has been for most of the season. I don't know why Jose wouldn't listen to the coaching. Probably something that needs to be addressed. Of course, Robin didn't notice that Abreu had passed out from exhaustion while he was telling him not to strike out. He hit him on the head until he woke up dizzy and sent him up to the plate. -
QUOTE (Vance Law @ Aug 10, 2014 -> 06:59 PM) You want him to score on a double. You want the fastest guy you have. I get that, but the guy on 1b also can't commit until Abreu does anything, and I don't think Gillaspie is that slow is he?
-
So you have Leury run for Gillaspie when Abreu is on 2nd base? Is Gillaspie that slow?
-
Yet another classic "Beckham has poor range" play. Decent 2b or well-positioned CF gets that ball.
-
Flowers keep blooming.
-
There are 2 off days this week with 2 games in-between. Jose Abreu should get at least one of those days off. He won't, but he should. Looks completely out of it at the plate today. Not hurt, just exhausted.
-
Well that was a managerial change that worked out excellently by Seattle.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 10, 2014 -> 05:20 PM) I do believe it's possible, and if changes happened, I could see it after the road trip ends. But no changes have happened whatsoever other than those forced by injury. Pretty strong argument against changes happening.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 10, 2014 -> 05:09 PM) I agree, but with Eaton out and Beckham just wasting at bats, I've seen crazier things. Do you honestly believe this team is finally going to stop giving Beckham at bats?
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 10, 2014 -> 05:01 PM) Yep, but Danks is only one who will likely be back next year. I wonder if we see Micah Johnson up soon to lead off? God I hope not.
