  1. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 13, 2014 -> 09:34 AM) His swing has always been long, though there is power there. So he did well at lower levels, but more polished pitchers give him trouble. I've seen him try to shorten up on occasion, but not consistently. I don't know his personality either, but I can tell you that making significant mechanical changes to a hitter's swing is not an easy process. Many hitters need to, and only some percentage of those are able to do so and re-establish a consistent approach. Perhaps sometimes it is stubbornness, but I suspect some of the time they simply aren't able to for one or more reasons. I can only theorize what those may be. I think Jordan, like Tyler, is a guy who they've tried to remake his swing and when he's made bigger changes his numbers have gotten worse, not better.
  2. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ May 13, 2014 -> 12:24 AM) Kansas City is not Chicago. Removing public transit access from the third largest metropolitan city in the nation, which also happens to be politically liberal even moreso than a typical massive city, would instantly alienate a massive component of the fanbase, almost exclusively among the 30 and under crowd, which is vital for long-term success. And on top of that, there is every reason to believe that over the lifetime of a ballpark there will be several more large spikes in fuel prices.
  3. QUOTE (ptatc @ May 12, 2014 -> 09:22 PM) They have been conservative enough with him. This is a time when I would follow a pitch count. RV says "SCREW YOU 140 OR BUST"
  4. QUOTE (bmags @ May 12, 2014 -> 06:23 PM) And really Mike Brown should never be a HC again, but I'm sure he'll be snatched up right away because NBA. He was doing a heckuva job.
  5. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 12, 2014 -> 06:49 PM) In general, trading up is a bad idea, trading up for a wideout, especially one who I personally dont' think projects near as good as some of the other elite ones, that just doesn't make sense, imo. He's got to basically be Calvin Johnson or Julio Jones for this to work.
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 12, 2014 -> 09:15 PM) It might put an end to the World Baseball Classic, that's for sure. Because that didn't happen this year?
  7. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ May 12, 2014 -> 10:04 AM) We do this for the HS baseball team I coach. The players get a steak dinner for a 3 pitch inning, or more than a 10 pitch at bat. The players get a gatorade if they were a walk from an 0-2 count or have more than 5 foul balls in an at bat. Ravelo could buy for like 1/2 of his roster after that game.
  8. So at this point the solution is to stop using pitchers, right?
  9. Hey, by the way, we've now officially broken Antarctica.
  10. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 12, 2014 -> 04:16 PM) That's a pretty good post all the way around. Remember Sox attendance does suck and it probably would be VERY SMART of the Sox to move to Lisle where their academy is and just go for suburbia. Lisle is very close to Chicago and if you put the stadium close to the highway exit it might be the way to go. The key is to pick a suburb where the traffic congestion off the highway won't be insane. It would take a study as to which suburb is best. But there's no reason to stay put in the city. Like you said the Cubs own the city. The Sox attendance already sucks. Build an AMAZING stadium in suburbs with Sox money and cha-ching. Sox equal suburban team. The location of the current stadium is ridiculously bad. Just to point it out...putting a stadium in a location where there are no good transit options other than highway driving, especially if you're expecting that stadium to last 30+ years, is simply not smart. It's a recipe for disaster over the next few decades.
  11. QUOTE (hi8is @ May 12, 2014 -> 05:50 AM) These Eaton quotes are a perfect testament to young players - play with passion, dedication... Play with heart for the love of the game.... Focus on your talent and recognize your gaps... And you don't have to be 6' 5" at 250lbs and left handed to become a pro. And don't ****ing slide headfirst into 1b.
  12. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ May 12, 2014 -> 01:38 PM) If we assume Abreu and Eaton are for real and that Garcia bounces back fully from surgery, I'd have no problem at all moving Viciedo and getting a defense/speed guy to slot in to LF. We better be getting back one helluva player to trade Viciedo right now.
  13. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ May 11, 2014 -> 05:39 PM) Oh please, it's a long schedule. Every game won't be thrilling . You're going to have some stinkers. Just like we'll make other teams look bad sometimes , too. Was today a "travel day"?
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ May 11, 2014 -> 05:12 PM) As does Cooper. Yeah, I can't remember the last time a pitcher he really seemed to help started a game for the white sox.
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 11, 2014 -> 05:08 PM) Would have been better if we had kept Cleto, lol. Francisco's stuff is nothing like what he used to throw. "Hit Me" on that hanger. Someone claimed Cleto already?
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ May 11, 2014 -> 03:28 PM) Nice jinx...unfortunately he should be in AAA stretching his arm out. Awful team effort so far today. Dude, you realize this is impossible right? To go to AAA he'd have to clear waivers and he'd be claimed by someone else beforehand.
  17. QUOTE (VAfan @ May 11, 2014 -> 02:26 PM) We got Abreu for a bargain. Would he have signed with the Sox without that Cuban connection? Would Viciedo have signed? We had the best offers on the table for both.
  18. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ May 11, 2014 -> 02:25 PM) Yeah one halfway decent defensive outfielder on the roster. What do you do about Avi Garcia, De Aza, Sierra, Viciedo, etc.? You could live with Viciedo at DH but the others mentioned are worse defensively and aren't good enough hitters to be exclusively DH. Again, one solution to some of this is practice. Viciedo and Garcia are both young and Viciedo in particular has less experience at the position he's playing than he does at 3b because of how much we've shifted them around. If we're this inconsistent in where guys play we shouldn't expect them to be very good at it.
  19. QUOTE (flavum @ May 10, 2014 -> 10:20 PM) Good pitcher, but he's a #3 on a division contending team. Not a #2. Just to point this out again, his current ERA is #21 in the AL among qualified starters. WHIP is #20.
  20. QUOTE (Hawkfan @ May 10, 2014 -> 05:39 PM) Steverson may be giving them a different approach, however viciedo's pitches per plate has been consistent. 2012: 3.76 2013: 3.82 2014: 3.72 At the very least he's swinging less. He's walking at nearly 3x the rate of last year.
  21. QUOTE (sammy esposito @ May 10, 2014 -> 05:41 PM) If he has gotten dfaed he will get a new location. Not necessarily, he could clear waivers and wind up in Charlotte.
  22. QUOTE (Hawkfan @ May 10, 2014 -> 05:03 PM) Are there any stats showing that we are being more patient? With Viciedo? absolutely.
  23. Would he profile as more of a big/power RB?
  24. QUOTE (bmags @ May 10, 2014 -> 09:57 AM) Finally some real depth. We hopefully will not have to sign any dlineman off street to perform. Presumably that means another position will be the one that becomes incredibly banged up and has to sign someone off the street.
  25. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 10, 2014 -> 08:12 AM) You didn't know that Paxson and VDN got into a fight, and Pax grabbed VDN by the tie and basically choked him with it? This is the nice version that came out immediately after it happened http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2010-04...bulls-spokesman I think I vaguely remember knowing about that at some point but it's completely slipped my memory.
