Reinsdorf is on Commish search committee
Balta1701 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 16, 2014 -> 06:59 PM) He used to work for the Blue Jays, right? Or the Mariners? One of those two, I'm pretty sure. With Alderson? Well, if he managed to avoid accidentally emailing out Alderson's credit card number, that's a positive for him. -
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ May 16, 2014 -> 07:02 PM) Chris Sale has 8 Ks through 3 IP. IS THAT GOOD??? I think it's safe to say, he's back. Seriously, we need to trade for the guy who made contact.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 16, 2014 -> 06:35 PM) Yea but there is a very clear top 3 this year and the Sox (imo) would be foolish not to draft Aiken or Krolek because they are high school arms. These are guys that are at the top of what is widely regarded as a pretty good draft for a reason. Krolek, under the Sox' tutelage, could be ready in '17 -- by then the Sox should be well back to competing if Hahn continues his work and they can work him in slowly without him being "the savior". I probably agree with you but I don't have scouts of my own to work with. If Cooper was saying that Aiken will be undergoing TJS by age 20 and there was nothing he could do about it, would you trust the generally declared top 3 or would you trust the guy who has pushed the WHite Sox to the fewest Tommy John Surgerys of any team in baseball? There are other potential benefits of drafting a different guy don't forget...if you draft a guy that will sign for $2 million under the slot value because he was expected to go around pick 5, that's $2 million you could spend on other guys in your draft. That's like getting a couple extra 3rd round picks later in the draft. Again, I would probably agree with you, but the tradeoffs need to be noted here.

QUOTE (southside hitman @ May 16, 2014 -> 06:34 PM) Sale has 5 strikeouts after two innings. Is that good? Can we trade for whoever it is that made contact?

QUOTE (Tannerfan @ May 16, 2014 -> 05:40 PM) I don't follow the world of prospects, but is it possible the WS shock everyone by passing on one of these high schoolers and go for a college guy who can get to the bigs sooner? Anything is possible, and yes. The MLB draft really is so much of a crapshoot that the team could easily have a scout or two saying "for the love of god don't take this guy" and go somewhere else. It might well even work.

White Sox at Astros - 5/16 - 7:10 - CSN - Game 1 of 3

QUOTE (Tannerfan @ May 16, 2014 -> 05:03 PM) I respect a man who feels he needs to earn his 68 million dollars. I can agree with this. I also would respect a manager who is willing to tell him no. -

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ May 16, 2014 -> 04:49 PM) Abreu doesn't want to sit. The man gets what he wants. This is one time Robin should be a manager and make the right decision as a manager. -
So it's officially the exact same conference finals as last year except plus Russell Westbrook? Wow, such an interesting, engrossing, unpredictable league.

QUOTE (juddling @ May 16, 2014 -> 04:28 AM) Blacklist has been great all year. glad they wrapped up the husband storyline and didn't drag it out. As far as Red?Lizzie goes Red told her that her father was badly burned in the fire when she was little. End of the show showed Red with a lot of burns on his back so take from that what you will......... It was a pretty good week of tv.....as some great tv seasons came to a close including SHIELD, Person of Interest, The Americans, Blacklist, and Orpahn Black has been great so far........

The Improving Science of Prospect Rating (BA/BP/Law/Callis, etc.)

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 15, 2014 -> 10:26 PM) http://www.sportsonearth.com/article/75214...aseball-america So basically the entire article is based on an increase from about 70% of successful players being ranked by BA 15 years ago to about 75% now? -
Just as a reminder, the people complaining about Beck's K totals need to pause and read this article first.

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ May 15, 2014 -> 09:13 PM) Anyone else stay with The Blacklist the whole way through? Season finale was Monday, thought it was pretty damn good. Yup and agreed.
-
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 15, 2014 -> 08:31 PM) Martin Perez is the next pitcher to succumb to Tommy John disease. If you think the Sox have injury problems, the Rangers have it way worse. This image is from a couple years ago but you inspred me to find it.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 15, 2014 -> 05:59 PM) Hopefully George W Bush is ready to get back to work I cannot help but share this clip after reading that. Movies -
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ May 15, 2014 -> 09:13 PM) You almost never catch them talking about the Blackhawks. That's because hockey.
-
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ May 15, 2014 -> 11:25 AM) The results from Osuna and Cardona don't inspire much confidence in Paddy's ability haha. How old of guys are we talking about? If we threw $1 million at ten 16 year olds from latin America I might hope for 1-2 actual prospects to appear out of the group by the time 6-7 years have passed.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 15, 2014 -> 10:46 AM) The question becomes, if Hoffman is willing to take a major discount, would you be willing to draft him at #3? Keep in mind the Sox top pick slot value is just over $5.7 million, with a total bonus allotment of $9.5 million. Would a million dollar discount to slot do it? Two million? Or not for any discount? I would say that the risk of a guy suffering a permanent decrease in performance following Tommy John Surgery is a lot higher than the risk of drafting a hard-throwing high schooler who hasn't yet undergone it. If we were drafting lower I'd consider something like that if there was a big discount involved, but with the strength that still seems on the board in the top 3...well, Sox brass would have to absolutely adore Hoffman and despise the other guys.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 15, 2014 -> 09:37 AM) FWIW, I think the Jets will finish 2nd in the AFC East. I lean towards agreeing with this as well, although I could see the fins being a threat to that if their QB shows development.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 15, 2014 -> 09:11 AM) Bottom line, Semien is getting 4-6 days a week in the majors or he should be in the minors. His future COULD be as a utility player, but Gordon Beckham's could too and frankly his future as a utility player is far likelier at this point. If the White Sox weren't willing to play Semien 2-3 days a week in a platoon they should send him down. They've made their choice and I disagree with it.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ May 14, 2014 -> 10:07 PM) You could be right . We'll have to wait and see . I think it's more telling that it's way cheaper to fill your holes from within the organization. With his speed and the crowded infield it's a solution worth considering but only once his development is to the point where his bat will play in the majors . The more time that passes some of these problems will resolve themselves. IMO you do the opposite. If you're going to move a guy, start moving him early so that he has time to learn the position.
-
QUOTE (chw42 @ May 14, 2014 -> 07:55 PM) His peripherals are terrible because he gives up a lot of HRs. But I've always liked him and it's good to see him succeed so far. However, from an objective point of view, he's gotta stop giving up the long ball. Sooner or later, those solos he's given up will be 3 run homers and he won't be so lucky. I haven't seen him as much th is year, but last year he was throwing a big curveball that seemed like it was at risk of turning into a hanger sometimes. I wonder if learning how to control/tighten up/vary speeds on that curveball will help with that over time.

Also, can't find a thread on him but important post noting legal issues with Cuban ballplayer Alfredo Despaigne and identity fraud/document falsification.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ May 14, 2014 -> 05:43 PM) Also possible that after letting him get acclimated and if he's hitting good a move to OF is a very real possibilty. IMO, if I were going to do this, I'd have already started it in BHam. The fact that he hasn't played an inning at any position other than 2b his entire journey through the minors is telling.

QUOTE (Big Hurtin @ May 14, 2014 -> 05:06 PM) Mike Brown? He would do a heckuva job. And also kill Pluto while at it. (double-inside-name-joke!)
