  1. QUOTE (Noonskadoodle @ May 15, 2013 -> 01:48 PM) Axe should be no more than a 6th starter on a team when needed. He has really pitched well for us so far, but Hector >>> Dylan no doubt. He's fine as a 5th starter on a good team. That doesn't mean Hector
  2. TY. Saved me from having to find a less than legal stream.
  3. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 15, 2013 -> 01:39 PM) Why do we continue to play Keppinger? You want Greene at 2b every day?
  4. QUOTE (Jake @ May 15, 2013 -> 12:17 PM) Friedell says Bulls are "emotionally spent" and lack confidence going into tonight's game. Said they were sky high after the win, but some of those good spirits were contingent on the return of Deng, Hinrich, Rose. Losing Game 3 and still not having so many important players has taken its toll and you could tell in Game 4. Hell, they have to be "physically spent" at this point also given how short the rotations have become.
  5. The next time you'll hear about it is when it makes one of those lists of "Funny sounding things the government is spending money researching". Pig waste always makes those lists. It's actually a major issue to deal with, but it sounds hilarious and is therefore government waste.
  6. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 15, 2013 -> 10:53 AM) Can Carlos Sanchez play SS? I have no idea. But if you could make that trade you'd make it. Adams is a potential middle of the order impact bat for the next 5-8 years. It's just more valuable. The best answer might be "Maybe". He'd probably start off as a pretty below average defender there. He might grow into the position if he was given time and that was the only thing he was working on, but he'd probably be comparable to Keppinger at 2b right now. He's spent about 50% of his games at 2b, 40% at short, and 10% at 3b in his minor league career. They've effectively used him like a utility player...which kinda makes sense if the team doesn't think they have obvious openings at either 2b or SS or 3b right now and wants to keep its options open for the future.
  7. QUOTE (balfanman @ May 15, 2013 -> 08:58 AM) That's what I've been trying to figure out. How does a team go from good to horrible defensively in less than a year with pretty much the same players. I'm sure that there is some bad luck involved, but it seems to me there has been some kind of attitude shift. Some type of clubhouse presence or issue that has had a big influence on the mental part of the game. Have they tuned Ventura out already? Do they miss the annoyance of Peirzynski that much? Is Beckham really the glue of this team? Last year the players repeatedly said that spring training was the most fundamentals-focused, back to basics spring training that the players had ever been through. I think that was nearly the entire reason. For years the manager had played favorites and let guys he like take it easy while being excessively hard on a few guys he didn't like, and the fundamentals suffered up and down the list. Last year, everyone practiced everything in spring relentlessly and by April, hitting the cutoff man was second nature. If I'm right and that's the case for last year...that tells you the opposite happened in spring training this year.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ May 14, 2013 -> 09:40 PM) Oh boy, just amazing some of the things that are taking place. What was this one?
  9. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 14, 2013 -> 09:39 PM) Twins turned five a couple years back when Vmart grounded into four. Not sure if that is it. Al record is 6, NL record and league record is the Giants with 7.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 14, 2013 -> 09:37 PM) Yeah, the angle coming down 3B would have been perfect, we didn't get it in Chicago. I think the best angle was from the 3b on deck circle area, but when you see the replay its clear.
  11. QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 14, 2013 -> 09:32 PM) What constitutes selling everything and what are you trying to win? They can keep everyone they have this year add McCann, Utley, and Morales and they still aren't good enough to make the postseason. What you've done though is lock yourself into a ton of guaranteed money. They could also add those guys and win up a 95 win team. They could also add less than that and be a 95 win team with te quality in this pitching staff. But if the only thing a person wants to do is complain, that's way too much of a gamble.
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ May 14, 2013 -> 09:28 PM) What happened on the play at the plate? Just got home and all I can go by is this thread. Moreau jumped around flowers and the plate. Missed the tag on the first pass but Flowers took a second swipe and tagged Morneaus shoulder as Morneau fell away from the plate. Flowers looked at the ump, no call was made, then Morneau tried for the plate again and got in before Flowers could tag him again. The runner would have been out if the umps got to see te replay shown on the Twins broadcast.
  13. QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 14, 2013 -> 09:27 PM) Not a blown call at all. He clearly got him on the shoulder on the second swipe.
  14. QUOTE (Heads22 @ May 14, 2013 -> 09:24 PM) Damnit, Tyler. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ May 14, 2013 -> 09:24 PM) oh you are a very bad catcher, tyler flowers. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ May 14, 2013 -> 09:25 PM) Should've picked him for my pick to blunder. Damnit! QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ May 14, 2013 -> 09:25 PM) Tyler Flowers sucks. He was quite clearly out on a replay shown on the Twins network, got him on the shoulder right before looking up at the ump.
  15. QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 14, 2013 -> 09:21 PM) What are you getting at? You described rebuilding as somehow a lesser gamble. Selling off everything guarantees a loser. Trying to win does not. The only way that statement makes sense is if you think losing is and end to itself, something to be proud of. Otherwise, losing on purpose is an enormous gamble.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ May 14, 2013 -> 09:14 PM) Josh Johnson is totally the type of player that KW would have been interested in. I can't recall if we ever heard of the Sox interested in him. He went straight from incredible to the DL, there really wasn't much availability of him until last offseason, and after we signed Peavy we weren't looking to add a starter.
  17. QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 14, 2013 -> 09:06 PM) The money you'd need to spend for those guys would be a bigger gamble than a rebuild. Yeah. If they were signed, there's a chance they could fail and the team could win fewer than 70 games. Whereas if they sell off everyone they'd be guaranteed to lose more than 70 games. And of course...we need to guarantee more than 92 losses otherwise people couldn't demand a rebuild.
  18. Just out of curiosity...has there been any post from an actual woman in this thread?
  19. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ May 14, 2013 -> 08:05 PM) I get that Chase Utley is old, but he's been fantastic so far this year. Would he not be a significant upgrade over Ramirez/Beckham next year? Brian McCann is 29 years old and has been one of the best offensive catchers in baseball outside of last year. Would he not be a huge upgrade over Flowers? Kendry Morales is also 29 years old and is a very solid 1B. Would he not be a big upgrade over Konerko/Dunn? All these guys can help improve our offense. Add two of them, trade a starting pitcher for a young bat, and the offense will be much improved. Are they/can they stay healthy?
  20. Viciedo is destroying pitching right now. I jut hope he stays this locked in for a while.
  21. QUOTE (staxx @ May 14, 2013 -> 04:54 PM) WHY is dunn hitting 4 There's one reason
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ May 14, 2013 -> 06:40 PM) I don't think they're going to completely tear down and rebuild in the fashion the 3 teams I mentioned did. The Astros tried to trade any valuable piece they had in Pence, Oswalt, Wandy, etc. The Sox, even if they starting unloading the likes of Peavy, Ramirez, Rios, etc. would still have a very good starting rotation in place and enough money to spend to upgrade the offense. I'm not in the "unload the franchise" camp, but rather I'd like to see them accept that it's just not their season if this continues the next 30-40 games from now and try to bring in some young talent to help with the future of the organization. As we've seen from the past with the Sox, the young talent isn't just to develop into everyday players for the Sox, but it's a vital resource they use to trade for established MLB players (since they don't exactly love getting into bidding wars for outside FA). Remember the website you're talking to though. A substantial number of people here seem to think that the White Sox should be following the 2011 Marlins model for what to do with their players.
