  1. QUOTE (fathom @ May 14, 2013 -> 06:32 PM) Good stuff, it's crazy there's been so many unearned runs already. Also, that doesn't take into account all the extra runs that have scored due to bad plays in the field that haven't been given an error. Last night was a perfect example of that. Yup. Let's put it this way...the offense has been much worse than last year...but the pitching has basically been good enough to totally offset that... If that's the case, then looking at run differential, the entire reason the Sox are worse than this point last year is that they can't catch the **** ball.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ May 14, 2013 -> 06:25 PM) I also can't see the Sox having as small of a payroll as the Marlins, Pirates and Astros have had during their rebuilding years. Heck, just having Danks on the roster is more money than anyone on those teams were getting paid. Why do you assume that the White Sox will be able to completely tear down and then rebuild to being competitive in 3 years? The Astros, one of the examples you cite, are on their way to their 3rd straight 60 win or fewer season. I can't imagine anyone who thinks the Marlins will be competitive next year either.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ May 14, 2013 -> 06:20 PM) 17-19 on this date last year with zero run differential. It's not like the Sox are on the same pace they were last year (15-21, -19 run differential). You want to know something really scary? The Sox are through 1/5 of the season this year. They've given up 17 unearned runs so far. The entire last year, the Sox gave up 30 unearned runs. I don't know how to look up the unearned run stat for last year through this time, but let's assume they were evenly distributed. That would mean for the first 1/5 of the season last year, the Sox would have given up 6 unearned runs. Based on that estimate...11 of those 19 additional runs given up are due to extra unearned runs.
  4. QUOTE (Jake @ May 14, 2013 -> 06:01 PM) They also sucked until Mid-May last year, but we all know the season is never lost just 30-some games in. Incorrect. This board knows not only that this season is lost, but that 2014 is a lost cause as well. And, if you press, this board also knows that 2015 is shot.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 14, 2013 -> 04:57 PM) Only slightly less funny then Dems now making excuses for it. I got none. Shouldn't be done. Should have been made illegal a long time ago. Welcome to the club, didn't realize that warrantless wiretapping became so much worse back in 2009.
  6. QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 14, 2013 -> 04:56 PM) Why dance around it, this is a bottom 10 team in mlb. They are 23-13 in the Hawk Harrelson Baseball League though. And they've somehow got an ERA over 5 in 2014 in the Marty34 league, because MARTY HAS SPOKEN.
  7. QUOTE (staxx @ May 14, 2013 -> 04:55 PM) Sounds like my high school team. Your high school team probably has better fundamental baseball skills than the 2013 white sox.
  8. I think it's hilarious that the Republicans suddenly think that warrantless surveillance using the "Terror!" excuse is bad.
  9. Only 50 minutes? Well then hopefully that is the first of many. That ought to happen every day for the next month.
  10. QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 14, 2013 -> 04:12 PM) They aren't going to go to the postseason next year and Peavy and Rios trade value is more likely to decline next year. MARTY HAS SPOKEN. OBEY.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ May 13, 2013 -> 09:34 PM) I know I like to tease about him, but seriously, how is Travis Wood so good? His stuff is nothing special, but he's had a dominating season. Here's an ESPN blog about him.
  12. Snodgress warming: Snodgress on the mound
  13. QUOTE (bbilek1 @ May 14, 2013 -> 11:15 AM) Really an area we need to improve in. 2012 was a good start, let's keep bringing them in. One thing worth remembering, there's now an international signing salary cap...so if the Sox go for signing a guy who is getting enough press that people have actually heard of him...it could happen at the expense of what would be 3 or 4 other smaller signings (that could, in 5 years, wind up being more productive).
  14. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 14, 2013 -> 09:50 AM) f***. This. Season. Keep Noah, Deng, Rose, Butler and Belinelli. Gut the roster of everyone else. Not really possible, but oh well.
  15. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ May 14, 2013 -> 09:40 AM) Just an observation- it feels as if every year one hears about another 2 or 3 teams that acquire the license to print their own money via new Broadcast rights deals. At what point is everyone back to a level playing field? I know I read something a while back that had a pretty sizable group of teams (7 or 8 IIRC) on the verge of having their current deals expire by 2015 or so. The White Sox deal with CSN comes up for renewal in 2019.
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 13, 2013 -> 10:34 PM) It's more like "austerity" with the lower ticket prices and, one would assume, lowered payroll for 2014. WIth the extra $25 million in TV money, this seems unlikely.
  17. QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ May 13, 2013 -> 05:43 PM) Good read. What's your take on Michael Earley in this game Got a couple hits but nothing jaw dropping. If I see them again later this year I'll keep more of an eye on him. At the very least, he didn't do anything wrong.
  18. QUOTE (flavum @ May 13, 2013 -> 07:14 PM) Danks is getting at least one more start in the minors. I'm going to say his first start is at home against Miami next Friday. Makes sense, 2 more starts against AAA teams.
  19. QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 13, 2013 -> 07:11 PM) So not every trade for Sale makes them a worse team. So the next time you advocate trading sale, we can ask when the angels decided to give up Trout, and listen to te crickets.
  20. That leaves almost any ballpark in the league.
  21. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ May 13, 2013 -> 08:21 PM) Is this some offense? It's Pedro Hernandez. Did everyone somehow forget how badly he was torched when we gave him a start last year?
  22. If only the Bulls had some one who could lead a fast break out of those turnovers...
