  1. Well guys, got your wish, that'll be it for Hudson.
  2. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Aug 15, 2012 -> 06:35 PM) Really dude? You support the shooter? Wow I never said that. I referred to them by their official designation via the Southern Poverty Law Center, as a "Hate group". There are unconfirmed reports that the shooter had some sort of Chick Fil-A product or something like that along with him at the time of the shooting.
  3. If you want something that's more on subject, there was a shooting at the offices of the Family Research Council hate group in DC today that appears to be motivated by their politics on the gays. The FBI is reportedly already looking into it as an act of terrorism.
  4. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 15, 2012 -> 05:24 PM) It's a joke about a prior Obama ad placing the responsibility of someone's death on him. Wow, didn't get it at all until this post. Too much mental gymnastics for that joke attempt.
  5. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 15, 2012 -> 04:55 PM) Felix hasn't given up a hit through 5 against the Rays. Rays and getaway days. There's a history with them. Hasn't walked anyone either according to ESPN, so 18/18.
  6. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Aug 15, 2012 -> 04:23 PM) Here is something from the comment section of the article that need not be overlooked. Ventura's team slashed payroll by $25 million or so and is 6 games ahead of where they were last year after this many games. Guillen's team expanded payroll by $62 million or so and is 3 games behind where they were last year after this many games.
  7. Aside from Dunn, it seems like Konerko's concussion has wound up with the roster getting more rest, rather than less.
  8. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 15, 2012 -> 04:08 PM) They are tied for 1st with Dodgers at the moment. If that race stays close, I'm sure they will make it happen, like the Sox/Tigers in 2008. Of course, losing one of their best hitters will make it harder for them to stay in that race.
  9. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 15, 2012 -> 03:55 PM) If the Giants have a rainout that isn't made up, he would then qualify. Their April 22nd game against the Mets was postponed and I don't obviously see a makeup date.
  10. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 15, 2012 -> 03:27 PM) Did his agent not hear about Ryan Braun? This would have been a huge FA payday for Melky too, he cost himself a lot of money. Safe to say he wouldn't have been anywhere close to the huge payday without the assistance?
  11. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 15, 2012 -> 03:00 PM) And homefield advantage goes to the NL champion because of ALL-Star MVP Melky Cabrera. Another banner day for MLB. To be fair...he's not the only reason the AL lost that game.
  12. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Aug 15, 2012 -> 02:50 PM) Fired Director of Player Personnel Oneri Fleita. Theo hire or a holdover?
  13. I read Melky and my brain processed "Miguel"... Sigh...
  14. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Aug 15, 2012 -> 11:23 AM) This morning on the Today Show, Reince Priebus called out Joe Biden for negative campaigning by saying the Romney-Ryan ticket will unchain Wall Street while putting the middle class back "in chains." Mr. Priebus then continued saying he would like to discuss only the issues and staying away from negative campaigning. This coming off of Mr. Priebus saying President Obama had "blood on his hands" regarding Medicare cuts. Uuuummmm...I'm as sick as everyone else of negative campaigning, but until guys like Mr. Biden and Mr. Priebus stop, it ain't gonna happen. This situation reminds me of an old Henny Youngman joke (yes, I'm old): Patient: Doctor, it hurts when I do this. Doctor: Don't do that. If it didn't work so well, no one would do it. It works great.
  15. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 15, 2012 -> 10:30 AM) I enjoy the fact too that this was a proposed budget that would obviously be ripped apart and tweaked through the legislative process, but now both Ryan and Romney are 100% locked-in on that plan no matter what. It's become an all or nothing proposition. If Governor Romney's campaign would like to put out listings of policies with anything approaching the level of detail of a normal campaign, we'd be happy to critique that instead.
  16. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 15, 2012 -> 10:24 AM) Ok, assuming you're correct, being wrong about that policy doesn't discredit everything else someone could possibly say. Obviously not...but then throw in saying that the auto bailout is bad, random shot at environmentalists, and the foolish legit belief that means-testing Social Security and Medicare could make a big difference in the government's finances...and I've got plenty of reasons to not care what he thinks about the Ryan budget.
  17. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 15, 2012 -> 09:51 AM) I liked the parts that mocked Ryan's plan for what it is: an incoherent joke. That doesn't mean I have to agree with every alternative policy he proposes. edit: I excerpted part with the means-testing, not sure why you say I only picked the parts I liked? Also plenty of left-leaning economists have been exasperated by Bernanke focusing solely on one part of his dual mandate and not giving a s*** about unemployment so long as he can suppress interest rates. I also didn't excerpt other parts I did like, like this part about the banks: This is not what the guy you're excerpting said. He thinks that the Fed has focused way too much on fighting unemployment and needs to accept higher unemployment rates than this, to give the important higher interest rates. One can certainly argue that the Fed should be doing more...but complaining about interest rates being too low is not arguing that the Fed is doing to little about unemployment...it's arguing the Fed has done too much.
  18. Yesterday was somewhat rainy here, perhaps they were trying to play through rain?
  19. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 15, 2012 -> 09:41 AM) I think management would rather Agone, Pedroia, and Lester be happy than Valentine. I doubt they will try and trade these players in order to keep Valentine on board. It was a horrible decision from the get go to hire Valentine, his style was not what this team needed, neither with the media or the team. Here's the real problem though. That team imploded under TFranc in no small part because he gave they so much rope that they hung themselves. Any change of manager would wind up being to a guy who was going to be much harder on them. Yeah, Valentine may be a particularly bad choice...but would they have had this reaction to any manager who tried to clamp down on the freedoms that created the 2011 mess? I think they would have.
  20. The problem with what you just did is that you excerpted the few paragraphs of his op-ed you liked and then left off the bits that endorse other pretty obnoxious policies that pretty well should discredit the messenger. Favoring a higher interest rate after a collapse, complaining about the successful auto bailout, etc. Oh, and "Means testing" Medicare and Social Security is something a person with no grasp of what Social Security and Medicare actually do would say. Especially since they cover so many retirees with limited incomes other than Social Security, if you want to extract real savings through means-testing, you have to start excluding people with yearly incomes that are incredibly "normal". If you means test out people still making >6 figures, the savings you extract are a rounding error.
  21. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Aug 14, 2012 -> 10:50 PM) Biden out making a fool out of himself, again. Too bad he was giving a campaign speech in Virginia when he said it. http://www.washingtontimes.com/blog/waterc...rth-carolina-w/
  22. QUOTE (ptatc @ Aug 14, 2012 -> 05:42 PM) The bad sign is not the surgery itself. The really bad sign is that he tried to practice with a knee brace and could not. The only reason to wear a knee brace after MCL/PCL injuries is instability. If he felt his knee was unstable and the brace did not help, he could be in trouble. Unlike the ACL there is no good surgery to replace the PCL. It is in the back of the knee and they cannot develop a good surgery. This could be a recurring problem. Link Swiping this from Talkbears: Will now await Pt telling me what's wrong with that description.
  23. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 14, 2012 -> 06:47 PM) Its literally the most pathetic thing Ive ever seen. He's a backup QB who will be out of the league in a few years. WTF. They never did this for Tim Couch. Tim Couch didn't look nearly as dreamy shirtless.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 15, 2012 -> 08:58 AM) Wow, Boston is in a total meltdown. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/bobby-valenti...-gonzalez-.html The sad thing is...how can management fire Valentine after this without making it look like their players are running the show?
  25. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Aug 14, 2012 -> 06:07 PM) That's outstanding, have we found our Strasburg? "Screw that" says he.
