QUOTE (Tex @ May 24, 2012 -> 10:54 AM) As flawed as our legal system is, we generally allow the flaws to benefit the accused moreso than the prosecutor. That is good. However, "Eyewitness testimony is the strongest type of evidence" is generally a flaw that strongly benefits the accuser.

I'm going to go with Wood but I have to go pretty far back to justify it. Wood was the #4 pick in the country. Wood was supposed to be good. Liriano was an international free agent signee, and after a couple years, the Giants thought so much of him that they included him as a throw-in for AJ Pierzynski. Hard to pick one if you say "From the start of their major league careers", but throw in the pre-big league expectations and I get Wood.

WTF, Magic to talk to Shaq about GM position?

QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ May 23, 2012 -> 10:56 PM) You know the Eastern Conference sucks when the 76ers are a game away from the EC Finals. I thought Boston might give Miami trouble but they can't even put away a garbage Philly team...then again, it comes down to match ups and Bosh won't be anywhere near 100%. Don't forget though, when Boston won their title, they went to 7 games with just about everyone.

QUOTE (Jake @ May 23, 2012 -> 10:18 PM) Please oh please just say no to Brent Morel Konerko had to miss a few games after he was hit in the eye. He's worthless.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 23, 2012 -> 10:08 PM) Balta, sure seems like the Sox believed the back injury was hurting Morel's swing http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...,0,990440.story Duh.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 23, 2012 -> 08:13 PM) Ok, I'll add this too: I've never actually gone to a designated campground or state park. How does it work? Do you you drive up, park, and then go pop a tent anywhere? How do you pay? And where? Are there designated areas where you can and cannot camp? I don't want to be in a lot next to 60 other tents. Usually there is a preregistration fee paid somewhere, an occasionally (like holiday weekends) things may even fill up. Try to find a state parks website for the one you're looking for and there's likely am online booking optionz

QUOTE (Jake @ May 23, 2012 -> 07:56 PM) This was my suggestion earlier in the thread. I think they've thought about it but it would have to be a subforum of Soxtalk, which might involve a burden of work to bring in a new subforum that has a separate layout, etc. not to mention informing everyone at TalkBulls that they must reregister at SoxTalk. Not sure if all those things are possible, though I'd like for them to be There's no one at Talkbulls any more.

QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ May 23, 2012 -> 07:22 PM) Has there been any talk of the Curt Schilling/State of Rhode Island fiasco here? http://www.nytimes.com/2012/05/21/us/curt-...ode-island.html A $75 million loan guarantee for an upstart video game company seems like a fantastically bad idea. But I'm sure the man's an advocate of small government. He is. Very much so.

QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ May 23, 2012 -> 06:43 PM) interesting so indy has a chance to push it to 7 unless granger is still hurting pittman doesn't matter, but haslem is pretty big This really only matters if the Pacers can run a competent offense and get the ball inside (taking advantage of the Heat's lack of size). They ardently refused to do that yesterday while the Heat built their lead.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 23, 2012 -> 03:42 PM) Molina's been pretty awful so far this year, and based on everything KW said when he was acquired, you'd have to believe the Sox are disappointed in his performance so far this year. Thing is, it's not even just about Lowrie, but that Astros also got Weiland in the deal. Weren't you one of the posters that thought KW should have gotten another piece to go along with Molina for Santos? Yes, and that still doesn't make your comparison any less silly.
-
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ May 23, 2012 -> 03:35 PM) Yeah, I don't get how you can compare a major league IF to a mid-minor league level starter already. We haven't even seen what Molina can do yet. Molina hasn't been incredible at AA and every player in MLB is constantly defined by what they did last time out. It's the normal game thread ethos. That's why, within a week, Zach Stewart has been an ace, a bum who should be released, and a guy who should get Floyd's spot in the starting rotation because Floyd's a bum.

QUOTE (iamshack @ May 23, 2012 -> 03:32 PM) If you reallocated the costs that drunk driving supposedly causes on an annual basis, my guess is some programs could be put into place. Now you've hit the other rub. You're taking that money away from truly important things, like prisons.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 23, 2012 -> 03:32 PM) Nevermind that as of Monday morning the Marlins had won 2 less games than they had won after the same amount played last year, and the team that only won because of Ozzie was 4 games better than last season. And that's after spending a few hundred million last offseason.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ May 23, 2012 -> 03:28 PM) Jenks had 27 saves in 2010. Not half bad. Sergio blew some last year as well and Santiago blew some this year. I like how your statement that Jenks dominated the whole summer was completely destroyed, so you fell back on a less reliable metric without acknowledging anything. Jenks having 27 saves despite his continually terrible, unreliable performance might also suggest that...Ozzie was stubbornly keeping him in the closer role despite the fact that he was regularly giving up runs and blowing important games.
-
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 23, 2012 -> 03:28 PM) It's not unreliable. CSI has warped your people's minds about the requirements of evidence. Actually, decades of scientific study of the reliability of eyewitness accounts has done that for me just fine.
-
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 23, 2012 -> 03:26 PM) There's zero incentive for a bar to front that cost. They have no liability whatsoever to a drunk driver unless the person is overserved. That sort of program would probably just open them up to more liability. Which is why this would be something entirely reasonable for a government entity to do if it is in a city of moderate size with limited, focused areas containing restaurants.
-
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 23, 2012 -> 03:22 PM) I don't see a problem really with these changes, except for the first (when she originally said two people were running and now just one). The one where the person changed her opinion as to who was the aggressor was aided by "new" information (the coverage of the Zimmerman/Martin on TV). She admitted with her first statement that she wasn't sure. Define "Problem"? The "Problem" is that eyewitness testimony is inherently unreliable, and this is just a symptom of that.

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 23, 2012 -> 03:09 PM) 1.) My recollection is Jenks was closer about as long as the other guys who have been demoted were closers. He'd blow a couple then it'd be closer by committee and he'd return. It's not like Jenks was getting shelled every time. In fact, Jenks battled back that one year and uh, DOMINATED all summer after blowing several. 2.) Playing Kotsay and Pierre is not tanking a season. Pierre is still in baseball as is Wise. I'm amazed at the Ozzie hate, amazed. We won a WS. I guess some people still think that's easy to do despite the history of the Chicago White Sox. Jenks's ERA by month, 2010: April/March 5 May 7.88 June 0.75 July 7.56 August 4.15 Sept/Oct 2 That 7.56 ERA in July was slightly less than dominating. And your memory is just as faulty otherwise...every time Ozzie said he was taking the Closer's job away, Jenks still came out. Pierre and Wise are playing because multiple other people are hurt. They would not be doing so otherwise.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 23, 2012 -> 03:14 PM) Yeah, because for the majority of American cities a massive public transit system is financially feasible. Also, I'd imagine you can look at the numbers and find that Chicago has quite a number of DUI offenders out there. I'd say the City does a pretty good job providing public transit to just about anywhere you want to go. Having a system in place isn't stopping people from drinking and driving. Actually, most cities have some level of public transportation systems, they just don't do them very well, and they absolutely don't work well enough with local establishments to make public transit home from a restaurant/bar a legit, reasonable option.
