  1. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Mar 26, 2012 -> 12:18 PM) I've read a couple of places that he wasn't actually part of any neighborhood watch. Also the 911 operator specifically told him to not follow and approach the kid. Can you back that first claim up? He's been generally described as having been a neighborhood watch person. More importantly though, disobeying the instructions of a 911 operator is not a crime. Nor does the fact that the 911 operator told him not to do something mean that any of his future actions became crimes if they weren't previously.
  2. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 26, 2012 -> 11:49 AM) It tells you something. I mean, the whole point of basketball is to win games, right? Only if you consider the circumstances. A guy who takes over a 2 win team and turns them into a 20 win team 3 years later will have a terrible record.
  3. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Mar 26, 2012 -> 11:49 AM) Did not know Corey Graham left. That's a big deal. The Bears just produce guys who make big time special teams plays and then the Ravens sign them. It's normal.
  4. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Mar 26, 2012 -> 11:29 AM) Is Carl Crawford really a bench player this year? Kinda but probably not really. Ellsbury, Cody Ross, Ryan Sweeney, then some dude named Darnell McDonald who has hit well enough to earn playing time this year are Boston's 5 outfielders. They have a guy named Ryan Kalish who is a legit prospect who could swipe playing time at some point, but he's coming back from an injury. The Ross/Sweeney platoon is likely to take up most of the RF playing time for starters, so he'll at least have a chance.
  5. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 26, 2012 -> 11:09 AM) 34-30 in the MAC. Mediocrity at its finest. That seems like the kind of record a team might put up when they hire a new coach and that coach struggles his first year or two then has the team gradually improving?
  6. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Mar 26, 2012 -> 10:57 AM) Opening Day lineup/pitcher, with the exception of Flowers in for AJ. Nice! I maybe like the idea of Morel in the 2-hole by the way. Is today D1's last pre-season warmup?
  7. QUOTE (Tex @ Mar 26, 2012 -> 10:53 AM) Dunn could make all of those seem like bargains. Really, no he can't, when you compare some of the dollar amounts and account for total team salary inflation and overall league revenue increases. He repeats last year 3 more times and he fits on that list but probably doesn't lead it. Crawford and Werth...those are 2 guys with large enough deals that they could lead it.
  8. QUOTE (Tex @ Mar 26, 2012 -> 10:56 AM) Was the current law passed by referendum, which would place it directly on them, or what is passed as most other laws? No, however several elections have passed since this law was changed following Katrina, and thus, if the Voters strongly disapproved of it they have had multiple chances to make that statement. Instead, they've elected people who have made it a priority to prevent physicians from reminding gun-owners to keep guns locked up so that their kids don't shoot themselves.
  9. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Mar 26, 2012 -> 10:22 AM) I think he'll be fine with all of the above. He's a levelheaded guy who understands the manager is going to get blamed. To me, spring training is the worst part of the manager's job. Interviews, meeting sponsors, daily meetings on personnel, added to the fact teams are probably ready to break camp right now, but still have another 10 days to go. Undoubtedly every manager thinks this time in spring training is a pain. I think there's a difference between understanding what will happen to a manager and actually having built oneself up to having to go through it. But we'll see.
  10. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 26, 2012 -> 10:07 AM) The NFL doesnt give players a very long window. If Knox returns and he doesnt have the speed that seperated him from other average height WRs, then he is just another guy. They don't give players a "Long window" but they definitely give them "Lots of chances". He'll get at least this full season plus probably a couple more signings after this year to try and get back to being a decent WR option.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 26, 2012 -> 10:12 AM) And this ballgame is ova. Wait, doesn't that help Corzine?
  12. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 26, 2012 -> 09:17 AM) Knox returning to merely walking again is a small miracle. People counting on him on the field are fooling themselves. He was bent like a pretzel I know it's going to take time, but the doctors have appeared impressively confident about that through this whole thing.
  13. Just have to hope Robin means this...even if he's willing to lose games while the kid learns.
  14. QUOTE (Tex @ Mar 26, 2012 -> 06:53 AM) That's about how I see it. Add in the wanna be crime hero personality and the gang image of a hoodie and you have the perfect storm. And that is what Florida's voters have decided their state should be.
  15. I didn't see this anywhere else, but this is a great read on pitching mechanics and tommy john surgery, including ridiculuing the idea of a problem by Cooper.
  16. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Mar 25, 2012 -> 09:29 PM) He also called him numerous other times for people who were NOT 'suspicious looking 7 to 9 year old black males' and other things. Considering the apparent wannabe cop nature of Zimmerman, I would venture that black or white, he would have followed the kid. Also, people seem to be assuming that he had his gun out when he confronted Treyvon. Nobody was there but those two so we don't know. When the confrontation happened, the gun COULD have been in his hand, or in a holster, or in his wasteband for all we know. Perhaps Treyvon felt he could take Zimmerman since he didn't see a gun, until it was too late? ANd why is it every picture I see of him is at least 4 years younger than he actually was? And lastly, with the New Black panthers outright posting a bounty on his head and calling for his kidnapping, WHY is Eric Holder not saying/doing something about THAT? It's almost as if the NBP think they can get away with it without penalty because of a precedent or something. Whole case stinks for all involved, and got worse when the race hustlers got their hooks into it. Why is anyone assuming that this guy had his gun out? No one's assuming that. We're assuming he saw a scary black kid, muttered to the 911 number that they always get away with this, wandered out to confront him, scared the kid to the point that he was telling people on the phone that some one was chasing him, and then at some point they wound up close enough that the kid struck the guy hard enough to hurt him, and then the guy responded by shooting him. Ideally, this should be a crime. In Florida, it isn't.
  17. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 25, 2012 -> 08:55 PM) They will go .500. (but wite, there are an odd amount of games) I SAY THEY GO .500 9-13 and you're right, 1 rainout.
  18. I think there's a big difference between convincing yourself, with help, in October, that you can have your heart in something, and then staring at 6 months of criticism, hotel rooms, media, random firestorms, and losses to deal with.
  19. QUOTE (Cali @ Mar 25, 2012 -> 05:34 PM) No panic if there's a slow start, Kenny? Um, no. The lack of urgency and slow starts are what doomed the Sox the last two years. If they start slow again, we damn well better worry. Why? If we fall to say, 10-20, we only have to go .500 the rest of the year to wind up where we probably belong.
  20. QUOTE (Cali @ Mar 25, 2012 -> 05:18 PM) Spend more time with his family? "Spending more time" as an actual motivation, I dunno, he's been doing that for years and he allowed himself to be persuaded to spend less with them. If that's code for "I have a sick ____" that's one thing, but he'd have to turn his back on what he told others he'd do in order to "Spend time with them".
  21. QUOTE (Cali @ Mar 25, 2012 -> 05:14 PM) I don't think KW or JR would fire Robin, but if this season goes into disaster mode with the Sox losing 95 or even 100 losses, I could see Robin resigning. Robin doesn't strike me as the type to resign even if he feels like it's the right move...unless a serious family thing crops up.
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 25, 2012 -> 05:06 PM) If it makes you feel better, I've thought a few times that Robin is one and done as a manager with regards to tenure. I don't think he'll have the heart to quit, but I still don't know that I'm convinced his heart is in this.
  23. QUOTE (Tex @ Mar 25, 2012 -> 04:36 PM) Would he have been killed if he was wearing a sweater tied around his neck and carrying a snickers bar? He'd still have been "Suspicious".
  24. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Mar 25, 2012 -> 04:34 PM) Dayan not looking good at the plate. Is it time to hit the panic button here? No. Our job for this season is to develop him. Dude is a raw 23 year old who has been bounced around to positions and randomly benched several times.
