QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 21, 2011 -> 03:20 PM) http://www.chicagobusiness.com/article/201...or-more-missing Ok, we need to open up a pool about how high the number will actually be by some set date. Whaddya all think, $4 billion missing by Christmas? The full $5.4 billion missing by New Years?

#Occupythisthread
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 22, 2011 -> 01:39 PM) I think adding the vector of left/right here is silly, I really don't think the police response (on a large level) is different due to that. Might an occasional officer act differently for different protests? Maybe, they are human beings. But honestly, the idea that this happened because they are liberal is unfounded in any sort of evidence. This wouldn't have happened if we had several 320 lb bald white guys toting Ak-47's around every one of our protests. I can't tell if I'm joking or not.

2011-12 White Sox off season catch all thread
QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Nov 22, 2011 -> 11:55 AM) Peavy has a NTC and I believe he wants nothing to do with the east coast. If the Sox are wallowing in last place and he's pitching a decent year, I can't imagine why he wouldn't waive that to get a shot at pitching in the playoffs before his next FA year.

What is your top Buehrle contract
QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Nov 22, 2011 -> 01:47 PM) Five years? Jeebus. I'm Buehrle fan #1 but even I couldn't see that. If you have money to spend, and you're looking for a pitcher to gamble it on, M-56 is as good of a bet as is out there. No injury history, long record of performance, might well retire and save you the last couple years. I'd rather go 5 on Mark! than 7 on CJ Wilson.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 22, 2011 -> 01:17 PM) DKnobler DKnobler Pre-draft drug testing for the top 200 prospects SI_JonHeyman Jon Heyman Drafted players may only sign minor-league deals now. #MLB, #cba QUOTE (DirtySox @ Nov 22, 2011 -> 01:18 PM) Minor league deals only? Terrible. Again, this avoids the "We're going to call you up and start your arbitration clock immediately" clause that screwed the Tigers over on Andrew Miller. Put the guy on a minor league deal, give him his bonus, and if he's ready to be called up on day 1, call him up for that reason, not money.

MLB CBA Thread
QUOTE (DirtySox @ Nov 22, 2011 -> 01:57 PM) It severely cripples teams like the Royals, Pirates, Jays, and Nationals. It's going to hurt them much more than teams like the Red Sox and Rangers. But otherwise yes, the teams in the middle will benefit from this. It does not cripple them in any way. It doesn't make it more difficult for them to sign players, it actually makes it easier for them to sign players they draft early in the first round. There's no more "Does Stras need $50 million" to worry about.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 22, 2011 -> 02:15 PM) So all of these years of going under slot to march to Bud's "recommendations"? Jerry just got paid back for them. This last twitterbomb has reinsdorf's name written all over it.

Official 2011-2012 NFL Thread
Compared to the last few years as well, Brady doesn't have the kind of WR dominance he had with Moss on the outside, and he hasn't had his previous checkdown target (Faulk) for quite a while, he hasn't had the running game he had backing him when they were winning titles, and he hasn't had the defense he had when they were winning titles (so Brady must put points up). So there is a lot of difference there. But yeah, they're still quite good, and I think Gronkowski is a couple steps above Olsen.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Nov 22, 2011 -> 11:31 AM) Oh yeah. But still, perhaps all of the light shone on it will lead to people being more willing to report child abuse/molestation. Except for the fact that Victim #1 has now been bullied out of his school with no reprocussions to anyone except him.

Republican 2012 Nomination Thread
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 22, 2011 -> 11:22 AM) By the way, I am surprised there is no talk about the epic fail of the Supercommitteeofbudgetaryawesomeness. I blame all of them, though it sure seems that at least the Dems were willing to negotiate their stands on cutting programs. The GOP'ers were apparently not interested in budging on taxes. So the Dems failed, and the GOP failed worse. No wonder people like Communism and Root Canals more than Congress right now. I've been using "also, the sun came up today" as my response to the less-surprising MLB awards. I believe that is applicable here also.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 22, 2011 -> 11:19 AM) Military grade pepper spray? There are various state-level laws regarding the intensity and volume of pepper spray containers that can be purchased privately. California, for example, limits private sales of pepper spray to 2.5 Oz, basically enough for a brief squirt. Thus, the canister deployed against these people would be illegal for private purchase, and was only available for military or police use. I can't find quickly if there is a difference in concentration, but it wouldn't surprise me if the stuff they deployed was also quite a bit more potent than what can be legally purchased privately

Trade Adamn Dunn and Alex Rios
QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Nov 22, 2011 -> 10:57 AM) I don't think it is impossible to trade Rios, it will be difficult and you may need to take a bad contract back, but he can be moved. He is overpaid but has shown he is a major league caliber player. There are quite a few teams that need another OF and Rios can play all three spots well. Maybe a deal to the Rangers for Michael Young? Maybe Chone Figgins becomes the UTL? There are options out there. See, the problem is...if you've got a guy who is highly paid but performing (Michael Young), unless the Sox are taking on extra money, the counterparty isn't likely to do that deal. Rios has 3/$37 remaining on his contract, Young has 2/$32, so the Rangers would actually be both getting worse right now and taking on more money overall. Conversely, Figgins has 2 years and $17 million remaining...so yeah, if you could do that straight up you do it and save the $15 million, but why would the Mariners eat another $15 million to take on Rios? And if the Sox have to come up with an extra $5-8 million to make that deal happen, then why do the deal in the first place?

Supposedly Mittens goes up on the air with his first ad in New Hampshire today. Between Newt's nuttiness being the focus of the last few days and that, time to watch some NH polling to see if the "Narrow lead for Newt" continues repeating itself there.
