QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 28, 2011 -> 08:55 AM) So is Hanie that weak-armed or is Cutler just that amazingly strong-armed? I swear all of his interceptions were throws Jay makes in his sleep. I think it's the latter.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 28, 2011 -> 08:34 AM) How many of Chen's HBP were Quentin though? Nobody throws at Quentin, he's just a ball magnet. Is it possible that throwing up and in on Quentin is actually a way to get him out?

Why on Earth is that still an issue? Seriously, if it's that big of a problem, rent a courier, send them an iPhone, and fire them over facetime.

QUOTE (G&T @ Nov 27, 2011 -> 04:35 PM) That's the problem with not permitting audibles. They load the box and there's nothing anyone can do but wait for the play to fail. Do you really want Caleb Hanie audibling?

QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Nov 27, 2011 -> 03:57 PM) I'm looking forward to watching the Hanie-led Bears today. I may even be excited. Something is wrong with me. Some would call this "Backup QB Syndrome".

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 27, 2011 -> 02:42 PM) One of the downsides of the CBA for the Bulls will be Rose's max salary is actually higher now than it would have been before, with a lower total cap. Link. Derrick is literally the only player int he league that this applies to this offseason. It's only a downside if JR remains cheap and walks back his willingness to pay the luxury tax for a team that can win a title

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 26, 2011 -> 09:54 PM) One interesting nugget I read is the fact that the amnesty clause need not be used by teams in year one. In fact, they can use the clause, one time only, at any point during the CBA. This benefits the Bulls, because as is you want Boozer on the team this year and maybe next, because when healthy he can get you quick buckets. However, at the end of the deal (the final two years), when we can all expect him to be horrific... bye bye Boozie. This benefits the Bulls in other ways as well. Boozer's deal becomes more of a problem in a year or two when Rose's extension happens and kicks in. That would push the Bulls much closer to the Luxury tax, but that isn't an issue this year. And then to top that off, the Bulls have that European big guy they drafted this year who is 2-3 years away from coming over and who could be ready to replace Boozer cheaply at that poitn.

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Nov 27, 2011 -> 05:05 AM) How's the Bulls cap situation looking if they did decide to waive him? e.g could they could sign an up and coming PF for the MLE, or go for a cheaper option such as David West? The Bulls could always sign an "up and coming PF" for the MLE, they could do so right now, but that's just not the best use of their MLE necessarily. If the Bulls somehow ate the $60 million, they could have some money to sign a SG, but then wouldn't necessarily ahve the MLE because they would be back under the cap, so replacing both SG and PF would be a 2 year story again.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 26, 2011 -> 10:29 PM) The playoffs were absolutely horrific. Remember, he was injured (but again, we expect this with Boozer). The Bulls, even with the way Taj played last year in spurts, aren't really in a position where they can kick a guy who averaged 18 points and 10 boards over the course of the season on 51% shooting to the curb. Maybe that assbag can even not trip over some luggage, participate in training camp like the rest of the NBA, and get back to the numbers he had the year prior (20/11/56%). Yeah. Can't kick that guy to the curb... even if he was captain frustration last year. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Nov 26, 2011 -> 10:35 PM) I'm not saying kick him to the curb. But if he's your second option, you're in trouble come playoffs. He's so easy to expose. I can't stand him. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 26, 2011 -> 10:39 PM) This is true. The Bulls' "2nd option" is pretty much a committee. I would love to see them finally address the 2. It seemed last year at the deadline they were more than ready but couldn't get a deal done without moving way too much. This tells me they won't go status quo and we'll see a lot of rumors/attempts leading up to FA opening on the 9th. Boozer's problem in the playoffs last year was the same as Rose's problem...they basically lost Korver on the outside, so every opposing team collapsed into the lane and tried to beat those 2 guys up. Without a jump shooting threat, there was nothing to push the defense to the outside. If they tried that same collapsing technique and Boozer averaged 7 points per game, but Korver was hitting his shots outside, the Bulls would still be winning because Korver would be putting up 23 a game getting wide open looks. Boozer was also, once again, hurt, in the playoffs.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Nov 27, 2011 -> 01:06 PM) Yonder Alonso of Cincinatti Reds organization. Who is this guy and will the Sox make a run at him in exchange for a pitcher? Phil Rogers speculates they might and then goes on to say he would be blocked by Konerko and Dunn. He wonders in the article if the Sox would try and get Konerk to waive his no-trade clause. Checking Alonso's stats it looks like he is a good hitter and is also left handed. Cuban I believe? 2008 MLB first year player draft:

QUOTE (knightni @ Nov 26, 2011 -> 07:16 PM) He's being paid way too much to be a bench player in Detroit or Chicago. Presumably, for him to wind up being a bench player in Chicago, the process would involve "BG7's entire contract is paid via the amnesty out clause, thus allowing him to be signed as a free agent, at which point he is signed for a portion of the MLE by the Chicago Bulls". Thus, his current salary wouldn't matter.

QUOTE (sircaffey @ Nov 26, 2011 -> 04:56 PM) Blah. Korver and Co played along side a superstar PG. The only thing Richardson doesn't do better than Korver is hit the 3 (which hes still excellent at) and FTs. He's a much more athletic version of Korver who's not a complete waste on defense. Not surprisingly, Richardson was much more effective with Pheonix and Steve Nash before getting dealt to the mess that was Orlando. I mean, it's kinda telling when we're saying "The mess that was Orlando" about the team with the best center/big man in the NBA too.

QUOTE (The Gooch @ Nov 26, 2011 -> 04:41 PM) Does both have to happen or just one? To be completely technical, both the Bears and Lions have 2 division games remaining. The Bears go to GB week 16 and to Minnesota Week 17. The Lions have Minnesota at home next week and at Green Bay Week 17. The Bears basically need to "Match" the Lions on this one. If they win both their games, that's it. If they lose 1 or both of those division games, they need the Lions to do the same.

QUOTE (knightni @ Nov 26, 2011 -> 04:17 PM) Is he worth the expense? His FG% is abysmal. Depends on what "The expense" is. But yeah, looking through some of the advanced stats, Korver and company were more effective last year than JRich.

Trade Adamn Dunn and Alex Rios
QUOTE (SI1020 @ Nov 26, 2011 -> 04:27 PM) I'm pretty sure Rios and Dunn are about as popular as bedbugs but I'm not so sure everyone wants to trade them for a six pack and some salted peanuts which at this point I am perfectly willing to do. The real problem is that in order to trade them for that 6 pack and peanuts, you'd have to chip in $50 million right now. That's why they're not being moved yet. And no matter how much we'd dislike the sight of them in the Sox starting lineup next year, it must happen. It's the only way to start knocking down that $50 million towards an amount that might be reasonable.

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Nov 26, 2011 -> 03:59 PM) I've had my fill of Kirk Hinrich jogging around the baseline aimlessly. He doesn't even fit what we need at the 2 (assuming we keep Bogans as a reserve). QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 26, 2011 -> 04:02 PM) Well, he's not ideal, but he's basically a much better version of Bogans who can also run the offense for the few MPG Rose is sitting. And with Rose being such a scoring threat, Kirk can cover something of a complimentary role. But yeah, it still leaves the Bulls with the problem of Korver being the only legit outside threat. Kirk would be a slightly better version of the type of player the Bulls already have at SG.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 26, 2011 -> 03:46 PM) I am fine with bogans in a reserve role, but I want to see a new starter in his place. That is of course the goal...but it's also entirely possible that you could sign a Grant Hill level player who could take close to starter's minutes and he wouldn't be ready to fill that role until January/February.

Trade Adamn Dunn and Alex Rios
I'll add...I don't know of any GM's that would have the balls to actually cut and run from Dunn and Rios if the team is in first place. That doesn't make it any less of a correct decision.
