  1. QUOTE (mmmmmbeeer @ Sep 21, 2011 -> 03:38 PM) No love for Matt Kemp? Dude has had a ridiculous season...power, speed, and average.See my previous statement, you gotta do it more than 1 year. He had a .760 OPS last year and his defense was so bad the owners took time to complain about it.
  2. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Sep 21, 2011 -> 02:34 PM) Unless you have some inside information, I think that statement is highly debatable. Everything I know suggests Walker is extremely well liked and respected by the White Sox front office. He may not return, but its not close to a done deal. I think the front office also likes winning and ticket sales.
  3. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Sep 21, 2011 -> 12:49 PM) I think you're right, for the record. I just think that with the recent success, there's thankfully more ways to get to a good offensive season than just 15+ long balls. One thing that really impressed me when I saw him at AA was that he wasn't just driving the ball...he doubled the ball off the RF wall at least once, maybe twice, during that double-header. He can pull together power to all fields.
  4. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 21, 2011 -> 03:39 PM) ozzie's mad because they didn't let nepotism force them into making a bad draft pick And because they've done exactly that before...with the Williams kids.
  5. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Sep 21, 2011 -> 03:08 PM) It's sad when a baseball team needs an enforcer. I could see Peavy being an enforcer, but he'd injure himself. Crain is too valuable. Sergio is just nice. WTF, an enforcer? Why can't the next guy out just hit someone, take the warning, and call it a day?
  6. I think it really exploded when Ozzie's kid was not picked up early by the Sox in the 2010 player draft and was left to plummet. Even openly in the Press, KW and Ozzie admitted that things had never gotten like that between them before.
  7. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Sep 21, 2011 -> 03:35 PM) I would be interested in people defining whether 2006 was a "successful" season, then. I'm not sure how many wins over 90 an organization can reasonably "expect" Again, it depends on where you're coming from. When you've missed the playoffs 2 years in a row and 3 of the last 4, and you expand your salary significantly, missing the playoffs but winning 91 games would still, IMO, be a failure. IF you're coming off a 99 win season and a world series...90 wins is a failure.
  8. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 21, 2011 -> 02:01 PM) Desmond Jennings, 2-1 TB. Not that the Rays could have used him for the first 100 games. Are the Rays in the WC lead if they call him up a month earlier?
  9. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 21, 2011 -> 03:19 PM) Great. Now we will see at least 10 threads this offseason clamoring for the Sox to pick him up ASAP. Actually, I think the Sox have a 1b for next season.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 21, 2011 -> 02:15 PM) Apparently REM is breaking up... About 30 years too late for my taste. I found some of their recent stuff quite good.
  13. Awesome precision.
  14. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 21, 2011 -> 12:29 PM) Right. Either them or Tampa Bay. Clearly, you missed the point. The AL Wild card is probably going to wind up with 90-92 wins. Boston is currently leading it with 88 wins. The NL Wild Card is probably going to wind up with 90-92 wins. Atlanta is currently leading it with 88 wins. Clearly that NL Wild card is an utter pushover, while the AL Wild card is sewn up in perpetuity.
  15. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 21, 2011 -> 12:29 PM) What makes you think the Sox job is better? $125 million payroll in a major market with major endorsement opportunities compared to a $55 million payroll in a tiny market with limited endorsement opportunities.
  16. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 21, 2011 -> 12:27 PM) NL Wild Card. 'Cause Boston has the AL Wild Card locked up.
  17. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Sep 21, 2011 -> 12:18 PM) Oh, your initial remark made it seem as though you might have been dubious of his potential. I'm dubious that he'll hit 12 HR if he puts together a solid season, considering that a bad season has involved 8 HR. A really good season from him, based on this year's numbers, might be in the 20 HR range.
  18. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Sep 21, 2011 -> 12:13 PM) The only thing that there is worry about with De Aza v. The Juan Dog is health which is why he is not in his third full season at the MLB level. The talent (compared to Juan) is there and anyone that can not see that is not paying attention or only follow The World According to Ozzie where the 4 hopper to second is what you want from your lead-off man. Juan's work ethic is why he is still on the roster and most likely what got him here. Worth noting...it was his health that cost him his starting spot a couple years ago...it wasn't his health that has kept him from coming up though, that's been the fact that he's had minor league options left and was on 2 teams with other OF options.
  19. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 21, 2011 -> 12:21 PM) It wasn't a better job last year. Then why doesn't he approach the Chairman and offer a buyout of his deal right now on his own so that he can move to this more desirable job?
  20. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 21, 2011 -> 12:17 PM) The interesting thing is that the Florida job is a more attractive one than the White Sox. Then why didn't Ozzie quit last year and wait for the Florida job to open?
  21. You completely sure?
  22. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Sep 21, 2011 -> 12:04 PM) Don't you agree that his splits are more encouraging than discouraging? I've been encouraged by him the whole season, since about May 7 when he started making consistent contact. I might well have been his biggest defender when people were riding him in June/July for his lack of slugging and walks. There's no reason why 15 HR is beyond the pale for him. We'll see.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 21, 2011 -> 12:03 PM) It isn't? It is somewhat oblate due to rotation.
  24. He's hit 8 HR this season in a season where even his defenders will admit he's had a disappointing/developmental season.
