U.S. launches airstrikes on Libya
This ought to make the world a much more interesting place. There were something like 20k total shoudler fired SAM's in Libya's arsenal before the civil war, although not all of them were the up to date model like these were.

Rios for Rowand?
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 7, 2011 -> 09:10 AM) To get rid of Rios contract it makes sense, but where would Zambrano play? You'd essentially be kissing Buehrle good bye, and then probably Danks or Floyd too to make this work. It's a $5 million/1 year boost in salary with a 3 year, $20 million salary decrease to do that deal. The salary part doesn't give you a reason to kiss Buehrle good bye...and Zambrano has been at best an inconsistent back of the rotation starter the last couple years.

Looking ahead to the 2012 roster
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 7, 2011 -> 09:11 AM) You think maturity and intelligence are the same thing? At least in a pitching/athletic performance sense...yeah, kinda.

The 2012 Rotation
QUOTE (VictoryMC98 @ Sep 6, 2011 -> 08:09 PM) I would love to see MB stay a White Sox until the end of his career, but the shape the team is.. I don't see the need to bring him back, as they would have to pay him more than Peavy, which right now I don't see where they are going to get the money to do that. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 6, 2011 -> 08:21 PM) Even on the FA market, Buehrle would not make more than Peavy. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 7, 2011 -> 09:04 AM) It sure wasn't phrased that way. If you read the context yeah it was. "They'd have to pay him more than Peavy" = They'd have to pay M-56 more than $17 million next season. On the FA Market, M-56 would not wind up paid more than Peavy.

Looking ahead to the 2012 roster
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 7, 2011 -> 09:05 AM) That's not lack of brains, that's just him being immature as a pitcher. This is a guy who didn't pitch even a full season in the minors, let alone college or beforehand. What you are describing is a perfect example of a learned pitching skill. I dunno, one might consider those 2 things identical.

The 2012 Rotation
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 7, 2011 -> 09:02 AM) A lefty who throws 200 IP a year, with an era of about 3.00 wouldn't get more than a guy who has been injury prone for multiple seasons now, a righty, and has an era over 5.00? Mark has a better H/9, HR/9, and WHIP than Peavy, and is only two years older than Jake. On what planet would Mark Buehrle make less than Jake Peavy if both were free agents? Not what was being said or discussed. Jake Peavy is currently making $17 million a year. Would Mark Buehrle get that on the FA Market?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 7, 2011 -> 08:55 AM) CSNChi_Beatnik Brett Ballantini Pregame Ozzie related he's seen Rios errantly break back 3 steps on balls "700 times" in 2011. Run him out there again then, by all means The only way to reward this behavior is by batting him cleanup.

Are the Phillies that good?
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 7, 2011 -> 01:38 AM) Yes, they are most definitely that good. Best team in baseball, IMO. Their rotation is every bit as good, if not better (Vance Worley?), then advertised. Hunter Pence has reshaped that entire lineup. I don't have any numbers in front of me. But I'm comfortable in saying their offensive production has improved across the board since his trade there. Their only 'weakness' (and this is nitpicking) might be the bullpen. It's not as deep as the Braves or Rangers. Madson and Bastardo have been lights-out. It's questionable somewhat after that. Then again, with baseball's goofy ass playoff scheduling, combined with normal travel off days, they can stick Oswalt and Worley in there and it looks a lot deeper. Then just let Halladay, Lee and Hamels take it from there. I can't believe I just typed that. Halladay, Lee, Hamels. Good god. I need a drink. They have the 6th best offense in the NL on the season but 3rd best in August.

Best and worst pitches on the sox
A 0.9 mph decrease in your fastball over the course of a full season is not "Imperceptibly down."

2011 Minor League Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Sep 7, 2011 -> 02:36 AM) Anyone know the pitcher's stats w/ Tyler behind the plate? Because it seems like our pitchers do really well w/ him, even in a small sample size. Although it's not a great stat, the Sox have a 3.59 ERA when throwing to Flowers.

2011 White Sox Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 7, 2011 -> 08:47 AM) JimMargalus Jim Margalus Brent Morel has drawn five walks in his last 14 games. He drew four over his first 90. Not believable. What you do for your first 200 at bats in the league forever determines what kind of player you are.

The 2012 Rotation
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Sep 7, 2011 -> 06:54 AM) All I know is if Sale, Stewart/Humber are in the rotation with Peavy, sox better keep Danks, Floyd and/or Buehrle for innings. That is alot of ? and lesser innings to tag that bullpen with. Danks was hurt this year, Floyd has that recurrent hip problem.

Rios for Rowand?
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Sep 7, 2011 -> 08:16 AM) To combine a couple different ideas from this thread, how about Rios for Zambrano? How much of Rios' contract would the Sox have to eat to get the Cubs to do that? Not that I like Zambrano, but you're stuck with him for one year instead of three, and a worthless pitcher is easier to hide on your roster than a worthless position player. I wouldn't move Rios in any deal that didn't save the Sox >$15 million total. We're stuck with him already, may as well see if we can get him back to producing. There's always a shot. That would mean that the Sox could only throw in a little bit of money for Zambrano. Rios has $38 million remaining on his deal after this year, Zambrano $17.5. I also would only be open to this if Ozzie Guillen continued to be the manager.

Looking ahead to the 2012 roster
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 7, 2011 -> 08:28 AM) How does a blown save go with brain power? And what have you ever seen or heard Sergio say or do that leads you to believe he is a "mental midget"? I'm kinda iffy on this one. It'd be nice to see Sergio get through a game where he has no control on his offspeed stuff and has to just get outs with fastball control.

... it's about time
QUOTE (VictoryMC98 @ Sep 6, 2011 -> 09:32 PM) Fair enough, so is this solely Ozzie's fault? Or does Kenny get blamed? Ozzies fault is plain to the eye. Kenny...I still say I don't know how much control he's had over the roster. If he can't even fire the manager, or the hitting coach, then I don't know who to blame for the personnel moves. Some of these decisions may have been the Chairman. Kennys blame to me depends on what exactly he told JR last offseason. If he expressed enough doubt and JR said go ahead anyway to try to protect Ozzie...

... it's about time
QUOTE (VictoryMC98 @ Sep 6, 2011 -> 09:25 PM) Right now sure, but I am talking about May/June time, when the Sox.. were still "All IN", and they needed them. I saw that play, with Dunn that is.. and at this point its moot... The Sox season is done.. Also didn't they just sit him for a week.. Its not like anything has changed has it? And lastly.. Dunn isn't known for his fielding ability.. I don't know if you missed it, but I would like to know who would be a better fit for this club this year in your view as a manager.. and why? Unfortunately, calling that is above my pay grade. I don't know bench coaches for many teams.
-
... it's about time
QUOTE (VictoryMC98 @ Sep 6, 2011 -> 09:06 PM) Are you okay with making Rios a 12.5million Bench player then? And do you think/believe that a different manager would make this team a playoff club.. If so who, and why? Right now yes. de Aza is clearly outplaying and outworking him. Play the guy who wants to play. For another example, adam Dunn just sloth walked it on trying to field a popup rather than running. That's a take the guy out move at this point.
