  1. I think this is what the Eastasian Monsoon must be like.
  2. Obviously
  3. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 5, 2011 -> 10:31 AM) To be fair, Patterson was a beast in '03 until he got hurt - which led to the acquisition of Kenny Lofton. So there was definitely something there that ultimately didn't last. But no one looks back on Patterson and says "boy, if only he didn't get hurt..." Getting injured didn't destroy his career, not being a good hitter did.
  4. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Sep 5, 2011 -> 11:42 AM) Both needs to be a choice. It is. Just select both of them.
  5. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 5, 2011 -> 11:38 AM) how could you possibly know this?
  6. QUOTE (Paulie4Pres @ Sep 5, 2011 -> 11:36 AM) I think Dunn should play every day from here on out. He has definitely earned that worst batting season of modern day baseball title, and I want to see him get the at bats to qualify for it. I just figured it would be nice to see the Sox bat guys where they project for the future. The season is over, you're right. Which is why now you see what you have for next season. Lillibridge should be playing pretty much every day too. PRoblem is, we can give reasons why we should see about 6 or 7 guys. Konerko...career stats and a shot at top 10 in MVP race again. Dunn...maybe turning it around, maybe putting his name in the record books De Aza, Viciedo: Development Lillibridge: see what he does everyday Quentin: Prove he's healthy so that he can be traded Flowers, Beckham, Morel: Development Aren't enough positions for everyone that we'd want to put in the lineup.
  7. I think that the Forman/Paxson model is going to happen.
  8. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 5, 2011 -> 04:13 AM) It's amazing to me in the face of another September when "our fate was in our hands" and we fail miserably, how many people are willing to give our leadership a pass. You all don't want to win as much as being proud of being non confrontational.Ozzie is plenty confrontational and he clearly didn't translate that into wins.
  9. QUOTE (Tex @ Sep 5, 2011 -> 07:37 AM) Ozzie is not why this team did not win the division this season. How do you know this?
  10. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 5, 2011 -> 11:21 AM) People are really complaining about lineups now? The season is over. Who cares who's batting cleanup? Might as well give Dunn at bats to hopefully give him something to build off of going into next year. The pressure is completely off at this point. It would still be nice to try the Elf out with everyday at bats so that next year's manager has seen him in a quasi-everyday role for the month of Sept.
  11. QUOTE (Tex @ Sep 5, 2011 -> 10:37 AM) How important is the X% that the manager can control. The GM hands him players and a strategy. They have to be working in concert with each other. My defense of Oz is this season, with the level of suck from key pieces of the plan, he's being way over criticized. Bottom line to me, baseball managers get too much credit, and too much blame for the outcome of a season. Perhaps that seems like having it both ways. Apparently on this team, the manager controls a whole lot, because he has had veto power over addition of players for several years now. The GM has had only partial control of players and limited control of strategy.
  12. QUOTE (SI1020 @ Sep 5, 2011 -> 11:25 AM) I just want Dunn and Rios gone. Will. Not. Happen.
  13. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 11:11 PM) Looks like a sweep. Not possible. Ozzie told us that he hoped it wouldn't happen.
  14. QUOTE (JoshPR @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 07:29 PM) I want some new blood if anything. Coop is the only one I would keep, he's earned it. I believe coops contract ends this year. Probably it for him too.
  15. Wow, a 16 spot. I'm glad I went to the fireworks.
  16. The Blue Jays and Orioles have been rebuilding for 15 years.
  17. The Astros appear to be doing a full rebuilding right now, and what the Angels are doing right now could certainly be termed rebuilding.
  18. QUOTE (scenario @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 01:40 PM) Somebody help me out with a couple of examples of larger market teams that have done complete planned rebuilds. I think what the Giants did (tetrahydrogestrinone replaced by a team built off of Lincecum, Cain, et al.) to win their title and what the Phillies did (Letting Thome go and restarting around Howard, Utley, and a young pitching staff) are fairly close examples of big market rebuilding.
  19. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 01:50 PM) Well I didn't mean current performance. So in that sense it was the wrong word to use. He's not far off from Alexei now. All I was saying that if he maxes out, he's better than Alexei. And that if he doesn't max out, yet still shows improvement, nothing drastic, just natural improvement from 21-22, 22-23 and so on, he's pretty much as good as Alexei. If he doesn't improve, then yeah, he's not as good as Alexei. There we go. We have now agreed on the dictionary definition of the term "Floor". I am content.
  20. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 01:39 PM) I understand it perfectly. I didn't say Castro was a better all-around player right now. I think he will improve in all aspects. Said poster said that even if he "maxes" out, he won't be any better than Alexei. He doesn't have to max out to be that good. He's not that far off now. His floor cannot be higher than his current performance. The "Floor" for a player is the lowest performance level you can get from that player. According to your use of the term, he is playing well below his floor right now. This is nonsense. It renders the term "Floor" meaningless.
  21. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 01:37 PM) Yeah, but you end it still friends right? And it's not personal. Winning changes everything. Maybe 2012 becomes the make or break for Ozzie, the coaches and KW Um, when you put all of your chips on a poker table and say "I'm all in"...that is sort of your "Make or break" hand. You don't get another shot once you go "all in" and find a losing hand.
  22. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 01:32 PM) Most likely we're all in next year as well. Just with a new management team, however. I'd say we'll field a team that could possibly be competitive if the expensive guys step up, but a team that will be a fair amount younger than this one, with a substantial salary cut.
  23. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 01:31 PM) I expect him to improve defensively. When I watch him play, I don't see a lack of tools in the field. He's got, what, just over a year of service time in the bigs? The things people say about Castro is what we were all saying about Ramirez just two years ago. And he was much older. I think you are failing to understand the definition of "Floor".
  24. QUOTE (Hawkfan @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 01:17 PM) It's over! Bring out the tarps! Turn this place into a parking lot! God Damnit.... I've been in all year until now. If only the NFL started today I wouldn't be as depressed. You missed about 1/3 of the words in the original.
  25. The 10 year hit 0% on Friday.
