You are KW/JR. You have the power
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 5, 2011 -> 09:39 AM) Most would prefer he start every 5th day in Charlotte, though. Would putting him in the minors for 2-3 months affect his arbitration status if he came back to start for good in July or August after a possible Jackson, Danks or Buehrle trade? No, it wouldn't affect his arbitration status. Sending him down for the full year *Might*.

2010-2011 NBA Thread
QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ May 5, 2011 -> 09:36 AM) imokwiththis.jpg With Deng, Rose and Noah he really doesn't need to be a primary option. If wants to keep averaging a double-double with Gibson (a player I think is really good in his own right) spelling him for stretches I'm not going to complain at all. Like I said earlier, Gibson was awful in game 1. I didn't see much of him in there last night, but I didn't catch the whole game.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 5, 2011 -> 09:31 AM) Serious question... If the season is over why send down guys like Sale, Beckham and Morel? Play them. Let them learn and make mistakes. Sending them down is counter to the idea the season is over, and implies we are still playing for this year. Sale could get innings as a starter/stretched out until one of the other starters is moved, and Beckham, well, it's worth trying something new to get through to him.

2010-2011 NBA Thread
He's averaging 10.3 points and 10 rebounds per game in the playoffs. That's an even worse dropoff from the regular season than he'd do when he was in Utah and got the reputation for disappearing in the playoffs. I don't know what else I need to say.

Catch All Anything Thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 5, 2011 -> 09:21 AM) I put this on facebook, but it is worth sharing here too. Hint #1 that Cinco De Mayo is just an excuse to drink... It commemorates Mexico beating the French in a battle.. Really, celebrating beating the French? That is kind of like celebrating shutting down the White Sox offense right now. Jokes about the French being weak? Do you have to make everyone feel old?

Most disappointing Sox team
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 5, 2011 -> 09:04 AM) That game is etched into my brain for eternity. It was a Saturday and we lost 9-7. I hate 2006. I've got a few others etched into my memory from that year too, that one's just the worst. The game in Baltimore with Contreras on the mound where Mackowiak single-handedly cost 3-4 runs and 2 innings of work for Contreras in CF. The day where Ozzie said "Anderson's my CF" and then 2 days later was on the bench again. The Buehrle 10 run inning.

2010-2011 NBA Thread
QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ May 5, 2011 -> 02:54 AM) As effective as Hinrich is at dribbling the ball endlessly, you're still talking about a defensively-oriented player. He's probably not more valuable than the pair of Bogans and Watson, costs more (I'm guessing), and the pick would just kind of seal the deal on the bad trade. Hinrich is certainly a good role player, but that's not a role that the Bulls need to fill. Hinrich would be a solid fit for the Bulls right now. Really solid.

2010-2011 NBA Thread
QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ May 5, 2011 -> 08:38 AM) Agreed ss2k5, they're trying to battle through these injuries the best they can. I dont even think Boozer is playing all that poorly considering, I'll gladly take 11 boards and he had a nice scoring burst in the 2nd quarter that cushioned the teams halftime lead. It doesn't help when airhead fans compulsively mention how much a player is paid in the 2nd round of the NBA playoffs, as if that has any bearing on what the team is trying to do right now. The problem DNE, is that this is exactly what the story was on Boozer coming out of Utah. Always injured, only 100% for about 40 games in the regular season, disappears in the playoffs no matter what.

QUOTE (JPN366 @ May 4, 2011 -> 11:51 PM) Can someone explain to me why Joe Mauer is afraid of Troy Polamalu? Because all you have to do to injure Joe Mauer these days is tap him on the back, and Polamolu can do that by accident...by turning and hitting Mauer with his hair.

Trip to Sox games in Seattle
QUOTE (Andrew @ May 4, 2011 -> 11:38 PM) Completely useless addition to this thread but: I LOVE Safeco. Only San Fran was better of all the parks I've been to (and that includes PNC - nice; overrated). I bet PNC would be wonderful if there was a team worth seeing.

You are KW/JR. You have the power
QUOTE (Andrew @ May 4, 2011 -> 11:01 PM) Buddy Bell has been in charge what - 3 years? I really don't feel like we feature anything at the minors like other teams do. We have to rely on KW to do that. Like...McCarthy. KW knew he sucked, but he got the whole league to believe that straight meatball was awesome. Total ripoff job he pulled but not because Brandon was good..... Because KW was. You do realize that McCarthy has a 3.05 ERA this year so far right? His problem was never suckitude. It was always going to be health from day 1. He stays healthy and he can get people out. He hasn't stayed healthy since we traded him.

Most disappointing Sox team
QUOTE (Andrew @ May 5, 2011 -> 12:32 AM) Anybody who picked 06 is an idiot. That team rocked. 90 Ws, tired SP....Ozzie starting to act up. Performed anyway, with NO starting pitching.... The single most disappointing game I can think of for the Sox in recent memory was in 2006, down the stretch, against the Twins, JD homered off Nathan to tie the game, then they went back into the doldrums and lost in Extras.

fire walker
QUOTE (soxfan-kwman @ May 4, 2011 -> 02:37 PM) They need to get Big Frank in that clubhouse & on the field. He can help the batters. He was around last year for awhile & he seemed to help out. Walker is not all bad, he is however left handed, & a big fan of the Walt Hriniak style of hitting. Not bad, but adding another set of eyes to help with analyzing the different swings & someone with other philosophies on hitting could help out a lot. Big frank had a fairly bizarre, fairly unique hitting style that probably can't be applied to most other guys, and he's never been thought of to have the most open our outgoing personality. The fact that he could hit like crazy doesn't mean he would automatically be a great coach.

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 4, 2011 -> 09:24 PM) True, but Ozzie will play him if he's on the roster and on the team. I've got no problem with Vizquel playing. Every time he's in there he makes things happen.

Phil Rogers with one of his better Sox articles
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 4, 2011 -> 12:12 PM) I think Cooper kind of got the pitching staff back on track (mostly that is) but Walker hasn't gotten through to the hitters. But they are men and need to be treated as men and not high school/college players. If you don't know how to hit by this level I am not sure they can ever get it straightened out except on their own. Walker pretty much just has to encourage them. He can't really teach them anything. Can he? Well, yeah, there's lots of things a hitting coach can teach guys. Konerko, for example, regularly credits Walk with helping him learn to go the other way or at worst stay up the middle more often on pitches, it's probably why he kills fastballs so much. Guys like Beckham and Morel need to learn how to be consistent from somewhere. Every one on the team needs to be taught how to handle a guy like Liriano on Tuesday, where he can't throw a strike to save his life but they keep helping him.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 4, 2011 -> 08:25 PM) NIce try. You really need to read a little better. I wrote if he doesn't pick it up soon. If he doesn't this season is in jeapordy and the White Sox window may be closed. $14 million a year DH's on non contenders usually isn't a good idea. Even if Dunn does pick it up, it might be too late.

2011 White Sox Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (greg775 @ May 4, 2011 -> 07:22 PM) There's no reason for Omar to be on the team anymore. It's not a contender. No need for a 43 year old to be batting/fielding on a non contender. If we were a contender, he'd have some late inning defensive value. Not now. Dump him and Juan Pierre immediately. Also, I know we have a lot of candidates for the No. 9 spot in the order, but we have to dump enough dead weight (send Morel down) so we can bat AJP ninth which is where he should be batting the rest of his career. He's a horrible offensive player right now. I don't know how he hit a home run the other day. Was the wind blowing out?? Well, Vizquel probably will still be useful as a player- coach for both Lexi and morel
