  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 3, 2011 -> 11:59 AM) He hasn't looked right to me since returning from surgery. He isn't even swining his hardest right now. He was looking better at the end of the Yankees series, then right back to blah against the O'S.

  3. QUOTE (lostfan @ May 3, 2011 -> 07:46 AM) Someone mentioned EO12333 earlier (Balta I think). It doesn't really matter, Osama wasn't a head of state and wasn't a US person Where in the EO text does it say "Head of state"? Here's the Wiki version: Does the word "Assassination" imply "head of state"? Isn't attempting to shoot a political figure an assassination (i.e. Rep. Giffords, for example).
  4. QUOTE (DBAHO @ May 3, 2011 -> 08:45 AM) They're pretty tight against the cap as it is, and they'll have to sign Rose to a max contract this off-season IIRC. So depending on what happens in the CBA, the Bulls may only have the MLE to play with come Free Agency. They'll probably look for an upgrade at SG, not sure if Courtney Lee hits unrestricted FA this off-season, but he's exactly the type of player I'd target with that exception. The Bulls will also have some close to expirings to work with on top of that, and an owner who should be willing to take on money. Under the old CBA I'd be fairly confident about this team getting better this offseason just from an MLE level SG addition and another year together, plus taking on some salary in a trade or two, but it's hard to know what to make of it without a new CBA. Teams like the Bulls who are close to the cap and NEED to extend the league's MVP could have trouble doing so.
  5. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 3, 2011 -> 02:41 AM) Atlanta won't shoot lights out like that again. The Bulls came out slow but did a great job of battling back and taking the lead. I thought we had it locked up at one point, then Crawford and Johnson decided they'd make every single contested jumper for the last 16 minutes of the game. That was ridiculously frustrating. Deng, Brewer and Bogans played phenomenal defense on Johnson and Crawford for most of the game but they just could not miss. It was similar to watching the game against the Knicks earlier in the year when the shot lights out. It's worth noting that a lot of teams seem to be shooting lights out against the Bulls lately. Teams weren't doing that in the regular season. The defense has taken a real step back these last 5 games. The shutdown stretches have vanished.
  6. Mark!
  7. QUOTE (since56 @ May 3, 2011 -> 08:49 AM) Sale came from a small college. Had success and immediately went to the majors. He confused hitters who only got to see him once for 1/3 of a season. I think he needs some time in the minors to become a professional pitcher. Sale was not confusing hitters last year, he was overpowering them. I think they're more confused this year. As in "Why is this guy throwing pitches 7 feet above home plate". It's all about control right now. Maybe he can find his control/release point/consistency in the minors, maybe he can find it in the big leagues, but that's the issue.
  8. The one thing you've got to wonder is how much AJ contributes to the wild mood swings this team sees. There's, of course, the Guillen rant from a year or two ago about college football games being on all the TV's in the locker room after a bad loss that everyone seemed to pin on AJ.
  9. QUOTE (lostfan @ May 2, 2011 -> 06:55 PM) When I first read about this I noticed that the Pakistani government was briefed AFTER the operation. lol, that speaks volumes. Would we have conducted a CT operation on British, French, Israeli, German, or s***, even Russian soil and then said "by the way..."? Did you catch the thing I posted a page ago about the Pakistanis scrambling fighters?

  11. Official photo from the White House briefing room yesterday.
  12. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ May 2, 2011 -> 04:42 PM) I read that they were going with head shots and double tap because they were worried someone in the house would be a suicide bomber. It'd be interesting to know, if that were the case, if they felt it necessary to have the President rescind or alter executive order 12333 beforehand.
  13. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 2, 2011 -> 04:31 PM) Various other Special Forces groups would disagree! They are all half-joking with each other over who really did this, even if Seal Team Six is the one who always gets the credit. Anyone think we'll ever hear the person who actually pulled the trigger speak?
  14. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 2, 2011 -> 03:07 PM) @baratunde: Worth pointing out for factual reasons alone...that's not what Counterterrorism Czar Brennan exactly said, although that'll be the headline. He said m ore along the lines of "When she fought back and there was an opportunity to get bin laden, she was positioned in a way that indicated she was being used as a shield." He doesn't know whether she placed herself there, whether the son placed her there, or whether Osama put her there. He only knows she was used as a shield (by someone to protect Osama.)
  15. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 2, 2011 -> 03:30 PM) If Obama or Bush were killed there would be a lot of people in other countries celebrating in the streets since we killed thousands of innocent civilians in the last decade. The interesting thing is though...the American reaction to that sort of celebration would be seething anger.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 2, 2011 -> 03:08 PM) So are we going with Deathers on this one? I believe we were using that term for people who quoted the "Death Panel" thing 2 years ago, but it's probably free to be used again.
  17. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 2, 2011 -> 02:40 PM) Not necessarily. Lets say, 5 years ago, that they gave a command to a group of X guys in the US "If/when OBL is captured or killed, perform a suicide bombing X days later at X". How would we uncover that? You're back onto the "Giving them effective superpowers" bit here. 5 years, undiscovered as a sleeper cell, with no contact with the outside, no one noticing that they took a trip to Pakistan in 2002, and no urge to start off an attack until UBL is killed? If they could put a 5 year sleeper cell in place, why wait?
  18. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 2, 2011 -> 02:36 PM) I don't know. Doesn't mean they can't or won't. Actually, if they started off a plot because of this, it'd probably be less likely to succeed because the U.S. is at heightened alert and anything done immediately in response to this is likely to be rushed, and potentially somewhat sloppy.
  19. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 2, 2011 -> 02:35 PM) If they could do this why haven't they already? Same with the nuke scenario. There you go. You don't wait and send secret messages saying "if you kill this person we'll kill Americans" if your stated goal is to kill Americans.
  20. Today's phrase of the day: Sharia-compliant terrorism.
