  1. QUOTE (T R U @ Apr 9, 2011 -> 02:20 PM) The flaw in the logic of he would never have even made it to the majors is that there have been plenty of people who have taken steroids, got caught, and still were either never good in the majors or never made it.. Steroids aren't a magic drug that turn you into an all star There are a lot of guys who took steroids and didn't turn into Hall of Famers either. What that means is that different people's bodies react to enormous regimens of hormones in a different way. For some guys, it certainly can be a magic drug that takes you from being a minor leaguers, shrinks your balls, cuts 30 years off your life, but puts you in the AS game and makes you a $300 million career. For other guys, it can be a drug that they take for a few months and suddenly wind up depressed and killing themselves. Literally.
  2. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Apr 9, 2011 -> 01:56 PM) Can't argue with that. I think the pen will be OK in the long run, whether MT remains the closer or not. D needs to sure up, or Ozzie's going to have to use Omar for late inning D replacement and motivate some asses. Omar is uncanny for getting a team focused on D, as we saw last year. Wasted a great performance by Crain last night. See, I feel the opposite...I think the D will come together...guys like Pierre and Ramirez make mistakes sometimes, but then they'll snap it together (remember the multiple diving catches Pierre had last night?). I'm more worried about the Pen. Pretty much everyone has been inconsistent so far.
  3. QUOTE (hi8is @ Apr 9, 2011 -> 01:15 PM) Yea, he had a bad spring but really - aside from on bad pitch on a 3 - 1 count to Butler in the Royals series - he's been good this year thus far. I just like that he has shown in his college career to have poise and intensity. He also has more plus pitches that he can go to for out pitches. We'll see thou my friend - I sure hope Matt can turn the corner. Aside from one pitch by Matt Last night, he's been good this year so far too, by that standard. Sale got himself in trouble before that 3-1 pitch to Butler. Sale let the guy on base, Sale fell behind on Butler, Sale was really struggling to get the ball over, and he threw a get-me-over fastball that Butler destroyed.
  4. QUOTE (oldsox @ Apr 9, 2011 -> 01:09 PM) That was a great article. Thanks. But, I don't understand what you mean about a meltdown. A WHITE SOX PROSPECT BUNTING! AIEEEEEEEEE!!!!
  5. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Apr 9, 2011 -> 12:49 PM) Once again, AJ batting ahead of at least two hitters who are better. I'll never understand this. Righty (Becks) Righty (Rios) Righty (Konerko) Righty (Quentin) Righty (Ramirez) Lefty (Pierzynski) Lefty (Teahen). Rookie (Morel) Lefty (Pierre). Even though a couple of those guys have opposite splits...that's a lineup that won't do anything after inning 6 if the opposing manager starts playing lefty-righty matchups.
  6. QUOTE (hi8is @ Apr 9, 2011 -> 12:51 PM) It was a really ugly ninth and Matt looked shaky from the start. I was one of the proponents in Sale's corner for closer and am still skeptical with Thornton closing. Hopefully he turns it on from here and can show me to be very wrong. Conversely - hopefully he's on a short rope - I'd hate for Ozzie to keep going to him if results like this continue. Unfortunately, Chris still hasn't acted like he belongs in the spot either.
  7. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Apr 9, 2011 -> 12:35 PM) I saw that on Facebook and how you mentioned that you've lost too much weight I bought a belt for my senior formal almost exactly four years ago because I needed a black one. It barely fit (it was the only reversible one I could find) as I could only wear it on the first hole. Currently, I can wear it at the smallest size and I would hardly even consider myself husky at the time of purchase. After I graduated undergrad I spent 6 months selling vacuum cleaners, which wound up having me eating fast food for lunch/dinner almost every day. That was the last time I had this waist size.
  8. QUOTE (Cknolls @ Apr 9, 2011 -> 12:42 PM) Karma is a b**** isn't it? Eh, I don't mind. Mistakes happen. I'm just wondering where the Republicans are complaining about voter fraud?
  9. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Apr 9, 2011 -> 12:00 PM) I saw the same thing, but at first I wasn't sure if I was just being to critical. The D was bad and could have made the difference, but I thought Matt's pitches were kind of flat? Lack of snap and movement? Anyway I hope he can get back on track. I am worried we have a super set up man not abler to the the closer role similar to "05 and Politte. Cliff was the star in the set up role and melted as a closer more often than not. I guess I wasn't the only one who felt that either. It's hard to even describe exactly what it was, it just seemed like Matt was pitching from behind more and that the Rays were making better contact than they should have been. Matty was up and warming in the top of the 8th inning, early enough that the Rays announcers were confused why he was up so early. I thought they would give Crain like one batter and then bring in Matty for a lefty since he was up so early. I wonder if that had anything to do with it.
  10. QUOTE (Tex @ Apr 9, 2011 -> 06:22 AM) I would be really uncormfortable telling poor people they should not reproduce or that if they are pregnant, they should consider an abortion. Seems like it creates two classes of babies. Those who live in the District of Columbia and those who don't.
  11. I was checking the pockets of the shorts I'm wearing today and I found a receipt from the mall in Bloomington, Indiana. From when I was an undergrad. I haven't worn these shorts in nearly a decade.
  12. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Apr 9, 2011 -> 11:49 AM) I didn't see last nights game and just saw the highlights. That D in the 9th was brutal. I've been harsh with MT and it appeared he would have closed that thing out last night, what a disgusting loss by this team, they better get their defensive act together. Even with the D, something about Matt was unusually hittable last night. Last year at the start of the season, you'd see a lefty come up and walk away having had no chance. Last night, everyone had a chance.

Seriously, at that price level, there's not much difference between brands or models. Every company will have a brand that's about $700-ish, and every week each electronics store in your area will cut back the price on one of them by about $100, and that'll be the one where you'll get your biggest bang for your buck.
  14. Well, at least the generals are starting to realize that a month of bombing is going to wind up hitting civilian targets.
  15. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 11:05 PM) I've seen improved eye sight, hand-eye coordination, of course more muscle, improved injuries, etc but never about guessing pitches right or having outstanding intellect in pitch recognition. Eyesight has nothing to do with pitch recognition?
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 08:37 AM) 3 hit games by Gordon Beckham. 2010: 2. 2011: 2. 3 hit games by Gordon Beckham: 2010: 2 2011: 3
  17. QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 09:55 PM) Rose's improvement in threes has been a big focus but Deng's actually improved there more. So much of Deng's improvement has been "Staying on the court" and "Being put in the right defensive scheme".
  18. QUOTE (Cknolls @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 07:23 PM) Congrats Justice Prosser on your victory. I'll remember that the next time y'all complain about Democratic votes turning up after an election.

My suggestion is to just pick up your sunday newspaper and look for what's on sale.
  20. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 06:31 PM) He shouldn't be shooting so many. There's shooting to make a point and establish the shot and then there's shooting too many and missing 66% of them, which is what Rose is doing. On nights where he attacks the rim first and shoots a modest amount of 3s, he is at his best. His poor shooting nights are the ones where he misses almost all his 3s and doesn't drive to the hoop enough. You don't technically have to watch the game to figure any of this out. There's a connection there though. When he's missing 3's for a couple games in a row, the defenders take a step back from him and make it harder for him to get to the hoop, or at least make it so that he doesn't get as clean of a shot if he gets there.
  21. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 06:24 PM) Case in point, Joe (Zoom) said to me earlier today that Rose needs to stop taking so many 3's, based on his percentage. I then gave him s*** for not watching games because Derrick Rose's added "threat" from 3 point range has allowed his game to go through the stratosphere. He of course argued this, like most statheads who hate on D-Rose, because, well, he hasn't watched every game this year like myself and many other Bulls fans. Those 3's he was taking last night were pretty bad shots. He buried the Celtics with them. I was starting to think after the 2nd or 3rd one late in the game that he was just toying with Boston.
  22. QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 06:22 PM) You guys aren't even mentioning the possibility that Jackson could very well keep us in the playoff hunt whereas Hudson might not? That's exactly my standard for judging the trade's success/fail, if you recall.
  23. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 06:18 PM) We're tied with the Indians. We have the better record head to head and therefore have the tie-breaker
