The Republican Thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 30, 2011 -> 05:02 PM) No I propose we keep driving people off with the pretty much one way hyperpartisianship. If you want me to leave this forum, stop beating around the bush and say it.

2010-2011 NBA Thread
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 30, 2011 -> 04:57 PM) That's actually been a pretty hot topic everywhere of late. I was shocked when I actually saw the numbers. People have been writing that for like 5 years though. I would always say the same thing about how the Bulls would go to a Ben Gordon isolation play against a triple team every time they needed a last shot...he did it like 3 times in a row early in his career, then that became the only thing the Bulls would ever run in a close game, and he'd make 20% on them because...he was triple teamed.

The Republican Thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 30, 2011 -> 04:51 PM) I only wish the Dem thread had this kind of follow up done on it. I got one of those follow-ups on a "Wikileaks might have caused something bad" post a few weeks ago.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 30, 2011 -> 04:46 PM) Yeah, who would ever think a union would hold a work slowdown to protest... Yeah, who might use that opportunity as a chance to make an anti-union statement, secure in the knowledge that even if they can't provide evidence, they'll have a strong group of believers.

Super Bowl XLV Thread
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 30, 2011 -> 01:11 PM) It's about time for two teams who have been perennial losers to make it so we can all look forward to the Super Bowl. Bills-Lions? The Lions would win.

Official 2010-11 NFL Thread
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 30, 2011 -> 12:10 AM) Absolutely. It will be interesting to see whether the American public chooses to demand increased safety and health guildelines, or if everyone continues to look the other way while this stuff is swept under the rug. There's always going to be one selection of the American people that thinks any efforts to improve safety is "pussification" of the league. That will probably keep things somewhat balanced. The thing that may really force changes is that the players are realizing pretty quickly that the last generation isn't doing so well, and they've got a negotiation opportunity right now.

Teahen your starter?
QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jan 29, 2011 -> 07:42 PM) Does Morel make the team if Teahen wins 3B? I'd think the answer would be no so he can play everyday in AAA. What happens in your scenario then? Call-up after a week or two for Brent? A Vizquel fest? Is Tank on the Roster? Teahen winning the job and then imploding sounds like the worst thing ever. If Teahen takes the job, then the bench becomes Castro, Lilliputian, De Aza, and Vizquel. The bench becomes deeper and better defensively. If Teahen then hits .100 for the first 2 weeks, De Aza gets sent down, Morel comes up, and Morel's had a few extra at bats at AAA.

Soxtalk Awards
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 29, 2011 -> 06:30 PM) Pretty much. Heads or Wite will win the best drunk poster award [though I clearly deserved it over both of them for '09]. Critic will win the funniest award. Fathom will probably win the pessimist award [though I'm sure I'll get plenty of votes for this one]. Kalapse will win poster of the year. There's not a whole lot of drama with Soxtalk awards. Dude, it's a message board. Why on Earth would there be drama?

Teahen your starter?
QUOTE (Cali @ Jan 29, 2011 -> 02:48 PM) I'm so afraid Teahen will bust a Brian Anderson in ST, knocking the cover off the ball, then April comes around and he can't buy a hit.... If Teahen genuinely comes out and seriously outplays Morel, then he's earned a shot to start. If he comes out and spends the next week struggling, he'll move back to the bench fairly quickly.

Teahen your starter?
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 29, 2011 -> 01:01 PM) This one was almost as bad as Scott Merkins 'Juan Pierre should be better in year 2 of his AL career' piece. Seriously? Is this going to be your response to every Feb/March fluff piece?

2011 Twins talent vs. White Sox talent
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jan 29, 2011 -> 12:55 PM) Yeah, Delmon is consistently below average defensively. Good arm, bad range, bad routes. The thing about the Twins is that their SP staff is due to completely implode. IMO, they've been playing over their heads for a couple years now. The other way to look at it is that the Twins starting staff has been helped by having a consistently top of the league bullpen, including middle relief, so if their starters give them a decent outing, they can be bailed out. They've lost a lot from their pen this year (Rauch, Crain, Fuentes, Guerreir), and they're spending a ton of money on it. If Nathan comes back and is Nathan, they've still got it, but without him, they're iffy.

2011 Twins talent vs. White Sox talent
QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jan 29, 2011 -> 12:43 PM) Wasn't D.Young's July better than Pierre's entire career? I don't remember any Juan Pierre highlights except that one catch running to the line, but I remember D. Young carrying the Twins for a month or two. In this case, I say WAR/SHMORE. Yeah, Delmon Young had a ridiculous July, a 1.191 OPS for the month. However, his OPS on the full season was .826. Outside of July he had a sub-.800 OPS. What the advanced stats are telling you there is that there's more to the story than Young's 110 RBI. He was in a ridiculous lineup and in the middle because he could hit righty. I don't know that Pierre was worth more than him as WAR believes, but I do agree that Young wasn't an MVP candidate from his big RBI numbers.

Financial News
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jan 29, 2011 -> 12:33 PM) I never asked for anything to work perfectly. I merely said I wish the market was down, because that's when I buy...so while I'm still in my investment for the future years (now), I'd prefer it be down. Until you are getting ready to sell, it doesn't matter how much it's worth (outside of an emergency scenario, which is besides the point). Don't worry, the market will be back through the floor at some point...probably sooner than we expect, considering how many of the problems which led to the last collapse have not been solved.

Teahen your starter?
QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Jan 29, 2011 -> 12:24 PM) 350-400 at-bats for Teahen is about 150-200 more than I was hoping for. As a lefty backup for 3 positions filled by righties, I could live with it. If he can hit moderately well against RHP which he did last year (.761 OPS) then putting him in for Konerko and Quentin really doesn't hurt us on defense.
