  1. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 09:01 PM) Because it would be insane not to give the guy compliments...he's pitching the first time for his new team, against one of his old teams, a division rival, against what are undoubtedly some of his friends... He's gone out and hung a zero up there and you're on the fence about whether the start is not "bad." A flaw you point out is that Inge hit a ball near the warning track? He's done a hell of a job tonight. He labored through the first 4 innings and it's only by a bit of luck/guile that he gave up nothing there. He's been dominant for the past 2.1. He just wiped a guy out on the slider.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 08:54 PM) Make him a 3-pitch pitcher with that change-up also. Lefties were hitting above .290 this season coming into the game off of him, so he needs something to keep them off-balanced. I bet if you could do double-splits on those you'd find that a lot of the damage lefties did was behind in the count. If he gets ahead of them in the count and rides it upwards like he did to Boesch 2 innings ago they won't have a shot.
  3. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 08:54 PM) Give it up man... How is it you haven't paid any attention to the posts where I've given him credit, but you go after me every time I say something negative about him?
  4. Even with that swing by Inge, he's really gotten in a groove the last 2 innings.
  5. That was a hard hit ball by Inge. Would have been trouble at the Cell. He needs a wipeout offspeed pitch.
  6. QUOTE (scenario @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 08:43 PM) Tough to imagine him throwing a perfect game, isn't it? Every so often, including against us, he'll pull out some mystically dancing offspeed stuff, but he only does it like 2 times per year.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 08:42 PM) Not to discredit the Sox, but Galarraga looks terrible. Mercy...those are the 2 hardest hit balls I've seen in a while.
  8. By FAR the most impressive inning he's had, because he threw a couple effective offspeed pitches and located the fastball well. THAT was a dominant inning.
  9. That was a perfectly located fastball to Boesch...rising and up out of the zone.
  10. Look how much more effective the fastball is when he can throw a mean offspeed pitch beforehand. That was his best at bat since the one against Peralta.
  11. I will say this...Cooper's got him throwing an awful lot of strikes. He's ahead of everyone. He just can't put them away.
  12. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 08:27 PM) Ok, this is where I draw the line. You just want to be right, Balta, because you hate this trade. The guy has given up some hits but also has produced a bunch of dp balls. He has walked no one. He isn't pitching badly, but he's been lucky to keep them off the board. Really, I'm flat out unimpressed so far. He has a 96 mph fastball but it's been hit a few times and he's only really gotten a couple of pitches that have hurt people. There's very little sink or cut on his fastball. It's straight. The Slider's been very week. He's thrown less than 5 good ones. Cabrera got 2, Peralta got 1. He's stepped up and gotten Cabrera a couple times, I'll grant him that...but every time he's come up there's been people on.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 08:23 PM) Bottom of 5th seems to be very dangerous for Jackson. Every inning's been dangerous thus far. Maybe he'll pull off a quick inning.
  14. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 08:24 PM) Does it really matter how many hits he gives up as long as they don't score?? Really, it's very, very difficult to totally disconnect those.
  15. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 08:24 PM) Wah, Kotsay sucks. Wah, Jackson sucks. Wah Wah Wah. Hey look I fit in now. How many hits does he have to give up in 4 innings before you agree he looks bad?
  16. QUOTE (Bhay99 @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 08:21 PM) Jhonny says hi. But yeah I'm not impressed. True. He had one really good slider on the outside half that Peralta tried to pull and looked bad. His next at bat, Jackson threw that same pitch to start the at bat off and Peralta lined it the other way and barely missed a double.
  17. Good work Hawk and Stone saying that Jackson wouldn't have to deal with as many WP's here.
  18. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 08:17 PM) Just got in and I don't feel like reading 189 posts. How is Jackson doing? Has he been impressive? Not really. He's gotten by on guts it seems so far, he hasn't really made anyone look bad. Both of his pitches have been hittable.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 08:16 PM) Jeez, another hanger. Stop calling for it AJP! It's all he has other than the fastball, and the fastball is very straight. That hit was on a straight, 95 mph fastball down the middle.
  20. QUOTE (Sox72 @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 07:10 PM) I think this is amazing news. I'm surprised there isn't more positive reaction. This is completely unnecessary. I would think something like this would only happen in the middle of a PR disaster or something like that. I'm a big Warren Buffet fan. (The reason I'm being silent is that there's actually an awful lot of debate over how much good the Gates foundation is actually doing, because of how they choose to invest their funds and how they decide to support certain projects)
  21. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 06:23 PM) I'm still waiting for you to explain to me how, if he is so amazing, he can't hit for s*** away from Coors Field? Some guys, once they get used to hitting at Coors, going away gets in their head. It's sorta the reverse of Petco.
  22. QUOTE (RudyLawRules @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 08:11 PM) When did Kotsay get his last hit? Sheesh. OK...don't meant to hijack the game thread with TMK smack. LOL He got a hit yesterday in the 11-2 romp, late in the game. Note, I said "a hit" in the double header.
  23. QUOTE (Real @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 07:57 PM) We deserve to lose this one, it's that simple I'd like to note...I think you made Carlos angry.
