Prince Fielder Speculation
Why do people keep thinking the Nats would be angry if they offered Dunn Arbitration and he accepted? Ignore for a moment the fact that he's talking about 4 years and $50 million or so...if he accepted, so he winds up on a 1 year, $13 million deal. Basically, that means the Nats get another full year of production from Dunn and have to absorb zero of the risk of signing him to a long term deal, and if they are unable to put together a winning team next year, then his contract is just as moveable as this year, and maybe they even get a better offer next year because KW has Sale and Mitchell available as trade pieces. There is absolutely zero downside to the Nats offering him arbitration. They'd be HAPPY if he accepted.

QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 03:56 PM) Big start for Hudson, whether he stays or goes. I'm really hoping he can be this team's version of the '93 Jason Bere. Then Kenny can turn him into an '07 version of Brandon McCarthy. Trade bait for a couple minor league pitchers to set us up for 2012 while we write off 2011?

July White Sox Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 02:27 PM) Does anyone think we are headed for a public relations distraction if KW pulls off a trade, maybe the Score is just trying to make a story but all morning on Hit and Run today they keep playing the clip that Ozzie does not want to make any trades and wants to go with the current roster. I believe play for today and try to win this year, but don't do anything crazy. Unless KW decides to go into selling mode while in first place, there's really no way that it's a public relations issue. Trying to improve the team...even if it doesn't work well...is good press.

It's worth noting that the pitchers have given him a lot more help this year too. Gavin's gotten a lot better at moving to the plate, D1 and MB have solid moves to 1b, etc.

Will this routine work?
QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 01:47 AM) Hey guys, first time posting in the Soxtalk Gym. Long story short, about a month ago I decided I want to live a healthier lifestyle and lose some weight. Right now I'm about 6 foot and 225 pounds. For the past few weeks I've been trying to jog every day for about 1-1.5 miles. In the past week I've also started doing 100 situps and 100 curls about four times per week. I also play in a hockey league once a week, and that's a great workout. If I do this consistently, I should be able to see some results right? My main problem is I'm a picky eater, and I eat a lot of bad food (pizza, fast food, etc.). But, I'm going to try to get some more fruits into my diet. I used to drink a ton of pop, and I've actually cut that out. Right now all I drink is gatorade or water. Some results, but there's a lot of other things you can switch in/out. Try mixing up the lifting more than just the curls/situps. Try to build up additional miles on top of the jogging. try knocking out as much of the gatorade as you can...that's just as sugar loaded as pop. Just be creative. There's really nothing you can do that is wrong in terms of cutting out sugar and adding activity.

2010 AL Central Catch-All
QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 01:42 PM) Twins starting lineup today does not have Span, Hudson, Mauer, and Morneau. Obviously Morneau hasn't been playing but missing those 4 players in your lineup today to start the game is big. Please get a win Baltimore! And Kubel with the slam.

There's this one totally racist woman at the Dept. of Agriculture, and from what I hear Vilsack won't even fire her.

Magglio Ordonez Seriously Injured
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 24, 2010 -> 10:41 PM) If the Sox trade for a hitter, and still miss the playoffs, then there's no doubt in my mind Ozzie deserves to be fired for his Thome decision. Ozzie shouldn't get fired for roster mistakes...he doesn't have the final decision, even if he's wrong.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 24, 2010 -> 10:36 PM) but so do the White Sox, possibly. Depends on if we trade for a DH this year. How sad is that? Sign Thome in 2010, and because of that we have a solid 5th starter in 2011. Go with Kotsay in 2010, and because of that, we need a 2011 5th starter.

QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 24, 2010 -> 10:23 PM) Detroit's a Paper Tiger. They can't support huge salaries forever. That team will be rebuilding soon. There's no way that team's running a profit right now. Forbes has them at the bottom of the team valuations.

The environment thread
QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jul 24, 2010 -> 10:14 PM) don't you hold yourself to a higher standard? time to admit your heroes are nothing but corrupt shills Charlie Rangel says hi. This is politics. At this point in this country, everything is so corrupt that I'll take something of an improvement over the last 8 years we just went through of "Get tough, it's just a little e-coli on your food, it'd be crazy to require inspections". Yeah, there's plenty of corrupt shills out there. For example...we can't even get 50 votes for a legitimate energy policy, and the President didn't seem too angry about that.

Prince Fielder Speculation
QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 24, 2010 -> 08:23 PM) They might find a taker for Viciedo or Flowers and get SP 'spects in return that they could deal to Milwaukee. I really feel like these type of deals are nearly impossible. Teams just don't do extra deals of prospect for prospect just because they don't match up with needs. The closest I can come up with the the Lee/Halladay swap the Phils did, because they didn't want to give up everything from their system, but even then they weren't swapping prospect for prospect on need.

Prince Fielder Speculation
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 24, 2010 -> 07:28 PM) Not a chance in hell Brewers trade Fielder without getting some pitching back. In a deal the Sox would do, it starts with at least Hudson, Viciedo, and Flowers, and then maybe more if they think they'd have a shot at it next year if they hold onto Fielder.
